ok, i have been meaning to tell you all about this girl on youtube, for amusement purposes only, altho i have tried some of her tricks, she is quite full of them, and she will cheer you up or make you laugh if you are down. it is about hair and make up and products. she kind of reminds me of me. she has this weird face. and some strange mannerisms. but she is way bolder than i, and she makes me laugh. she is not afraid to show her raw, unmade up face, and she makes faces. but when she puts some make up on, watch out!

me, i can be uglier than her, and not quite as pretty. but i like her, and hope you do go take a look. maybe i dont know, she is strangely compelling and fascinating to me, for a little while at times. go there and type in grav3yardgirl. have fun on me, and her.

I don't believe in organized religion as it has just proven itself to be a form of politics in the name of God. My God would not kill for power. I believe in "where two or more are gathered in my name". In fact, last evening I was car-pooling from training an hour away from home and it took us two hours to drive through the tornado storms we had here in Ontario. I live 10 minutes from the hardest hit area of Angus. Anyway, I assured the driver that what we were praying for was heard.

As for Obama, as an unemotional viewer from Canada, we/I see him as just a puppet. He is only a front man! Don't you guys see that? Everything he says is written for him. They chose him as a scape-goat to promote concepts that if they fail, he is "done". If they make it, it's his political party that succeeded. I don't see his position as one of power, but one of submission to the voices behind him controlling him. Even during the wars with other presidents you hear about the Generals that are advising the president. Do you really think the president makes the final choice? Not a chance. If he didn't have a cabinet and senate behind him controlling him, then perhaps he could be "blamed", but at times he is just surely trying to make the best of a bad situation he found himself in. I can only imagine the relief as these presidents retire on full pensions for life and are out of the limelight! I wonder how worried he is of assassination....?

kathec... you exhibit your soul in your eyes.  Beautiful!!!

As for the Islamic issue (and as a historian), I don't see much difference between it and other monotheistic religions.  Throughout time, each has gone through it's militant and radical stage - often in recurring cycles - and Islam is no different in that respect.  But, having embraced an unconvential spirituality myself, I have - personally - encountered the level of hatred- and misunderstanding directed at this very brave- and courageous girl.  She has my complete admiration for the way she handled herself in such a very graceful way.

    Blessed Be, everyone!

I really like to stay away from politics , but I will comment on this. " He is only a front man!  Don't you guys see that "

No I don't see that. The way the US presidency is structured is such that, except in rare circumstances, the president does not have absolute power. He has experts in all pertinent fields behind him to advise him on their fields of expertise. As bright as Obama or any US president  is/was none could ever have the level of expertise to know the complex details of so many situations. Good advisors are the cornerstone of any presidency.

Barbe, children in US schools study civics/government from an early age and are well aware of how the office of the presidency works. Choices and decisions by the president are most often made as the result of consultation with experts, congress and etc. In defined emergency circumstances the President can act unilaterally. Countries where the leader makes all decisions and choices with little to no input from advisors often resemble dictatorships.

Fear of assassination? I suppose, to some extent, all ex Presidents give it some thought from the moment they choose to run. In addition to their full pension, they get Secret Service protection for life.

exbrnx, I don't think you realize we are saying the same thing! Your president acts on behalf of advisors and not on their own. That's pretty much what I said.

I don't under stand the "pointing that out "us"" comment. Help!

I'm remember the movie Hoffman vs Hoffman from years ago where the kid sued his parents for divorcing. A line has stuck with me ever since. When the kid and his Dad were fighting verbally, one of them said "It's not YOU I hate, it's what you're doing." I think that's what I was trying to say about Obama and any president elected in a democracy. It's not really them you hate, but their political party choices. Does that make more sense?

That's what I interpreted as pointing out. I put "us" in quotes since I wasn't sure who this was being directed toward.

I disagree about who makes the final choice.  The US President has a number of advisers - but in most cases, with most Presidents, He - the President - does make the final choice - when the final choice is in his hands.  It is often not in his hands, but rather in the hands of Congress, or the Supreme Court.  That is why we have the three - so that no one branch can take total control.  I would certainly never refer to any of our Presidents as a "front man".

Gumby, I would tend to agree with you, although it could be argued that Dubya was in many cases mainly a front man. But that was because he was too inexperienced and uneducated to realize it. He was also, in all fairness, faced with a situation that would have been difficult for anyone to handle.

The world is becoming so volatile, that trying to negotiate between all the political complexities- and subtleties without offending someone seems nearly impossible.  I wouldn't want to be anyone on the international political stage right now.  Imagine trying to get an idea across and having someone just want to rip your heart out because they don't agree with you!  Winking

the President - does make the final choice - when the final choice is in his hands. It is often not in his hands,

That is exactly my point!!! He has elected bodies behind him making decisions for him, it is not HIS own, personal laws of congress that he is forcing down everyone's throat. It is a body of law that makes the decisions and he presents them. After watching this all for 56 years it has been repeated over and over and over again.....

Okay... love, love, love the smokey eye look, but I have deep-set, light-coloured eyes (blue with a lot of grey and gold flecks) and, everytime I try to do a version of it, I end up feeling like a racoon.  Doesn't seem to matter what colour palette I try, I just feel like ... gah!!!

    Any suggestions?

Oh, and the nail situation is improving vastly since I started using the sweet almond oil that I use as a face moisterizer, on my nails every time.  I, actually, have sport-length nails now!

ooooo! Thanks for the tip about the sweet almond oil!  I'm taking 5000mcg of biotin but it hasn't been helping my nails at all.  However, my hairdresser said my hair has never been in better condition.  So, I will continue with the biotin and add the sweet almond oil.  Question ~ what brand and where do you get it Selena?

Also, for any fans of Mylan tamoxifen ~ I just got a call from Mylan and it is back on the market!  I posted in the Bottle o' Tamoxifen thread as well.

Makeupgeek.com has loads of good eye makeup tutorials. I'm a big fan of Marlena, the woman who runs it. I know you said you have used different colors Selena, but browns and neutral tones are best for starters. And always brown or plum liner, not black.

AmyinMI... I use a generic brand of sweet almond oil that I get in the first aid section of my pharmacy.  And a light hand, just a few drops to moisturize my face and then I rub the residue on my hands into each nail.

Hello ladies!!  I just randomly came across this thread, and there is way too many to read them all.  BUT I AM DEFINITELY VAIN!!!!

I have hundreds of pairs of shoes.  Tons of clothes.  Purses.  I take too many selfies.  Yes, I am vain and I love it  =)

Cancer sucks as it is, and it really sucks when it starts messing with a person's vanity.  I have had one chemo treatment (11 days ago) and I'm using cold caps hopefully to save my hair.  I get so mad when people say "It's only hair", "It will grow back", blah blah blah.  It's MY hair, and it's long and beautiful.  And I'd prefer to keep it on my head.  I can be vain if I want.

Hope all you lovely ladies are having a great day  =)
