Got a question for you -  My DD went for her yearly check-up and doc said that she didn't need the mammogram this year being she has been diligent and checking each month.  Doctor also told her that since her Mom (me) and aunts all got the BC in their post menopausal years and she was still under 40, there was no need for a yearly mammogram?  Need Feedback on this.

I know that if she is not BRCA 1 or 2 +, then they will likely not have her begin mammograms until she is in her 40's in order to avoid radiation, even just the small amount assoicated with mammos. Also, dense breasts are common in younger women and mammograms are limited in what they find anyway. If she is not symptomatic and pays good attention to her breasts, then since she does not likely have the gene and has already been monitored, I am thinking the doctors know what she needs, as hard as it is to not worry about BC since so many in your family had this disease.

I am thinking that if your daughter is comfortable with that, then you may have to be too. My daughter's gyno told her she does not need even a baseline until she turns 40! I was freaked out too, but my DD trusts her doctor and has her breasts examined when she goes for her yearly paps and is in tune with her body. Hope that you can not worry too much...I know it is soooo hard when it comes to our children. ((((G'ma))))

Shell sorry you are sick...hope you are on the mend soon.

I haven't posted in a long time due to horrible vision problems.....chemosis and recurring eye infections and now I was told not to drive until I get glasses , didn't need glasses to drive since cataract surgery just prior to BC DX

I am anemic, have funky RB cells and hemo/onco think i have MDS.....having bone marrow biopsy and bone marrow aspiration tomorrow, mid day....POCKET party.....I  am scared to find out....as MDS is not a good prognosis for a long life,

    Love to you all

In your pocket Di. I'm so sorry about the horrid eye problems. Let us know what they find from the biopsy. Don't they treat MDS with chemo now? Or did I just make that up? Hugs.

    Di-In your pocket.

Shells, Hope you get well soon.

My tests were negative cancer markers- Yeah!!  Two years NED.  Dexascan shows beginnings of osteopenia.  I'm a bit confused as my MO's office called and said the scan was fine.  PCP called and said add some calcium and weight bearing exercise.

Karma came to the gal who "got me fired"- she got fired last week.  Still looking for work but not too aggressively as we have a family vacation planned the first two weeks of July.

I keep all of you close to my heart.  Take care.

GG- MDS is myelodysplastic syndrome.  "A type of cancer in which bone marrow does not make enough healthy blood cells...."

Juliette i'm so sorry you lost your job. Do you have severance pay or unemployment? I have been MIA and didn't know. How is DH's eyesight? I hope you are doing ok.

As you know, my job was eliminated at Kaiser Hawaii almost 2 years ago and I was devastated. I was dedicated, at the top of my pay scale, top vacation earnings, loads of accumulated sick time, looking at about 5 more years before retirement, then BOOM - we don't need you anymore. Talk about shock, I walked around in a daze, cried for weeks. Then, what the hell, went back to school, got breast cancer, being home so much had to confront the reality of DH's alcoholism.....what a wild year that was!!

Well, looking back, I'm in a much better place. I loved school. I handled BC.

It was hard work, but I was able to confront the demons in my marriage and support my DH to get the help he needed. His bravery and commitment blows me away.

I love the job I have now. Will I be doing this forever? No, but I'm where I'm supposed to be.

Looking back, I'm glad I'm out of there.

My advice is: Enjoy your time off. This time is precious - don't waste it!!

    Michelle

I thought I would bring smiles this morning. Through this horrid disease, I have found family has been my saving grace.  I found a picture of the Gkids that the smiles just bring me a sense of peace.  I just wanted to try to bring a little smile for you all suffering..

    image

PS  the GS's mommy is a photographer and does this for me every year.  My granddaughter only gets to visit once a year and so she only sees her cousins when I take her over to see them.  Wish she lived closer but when I have her for a week, I make sure she gets enough love to hold over for another year.

Crog I posted this on a couple of other threads yesterday :

This is what I wrote this morning on an LE thread: I went to the acupuncturist yesterday and I managed to lose 4 lbs over night! I told her I was a bit swollen and uncomfortable from my trip. She tried some "lymph" points and "circulation" points. I feel great this morning and first day in a long time - the breast nerve pain isn't shooting. Haven't had any pain meds this morning. Took a month, but my body is starting to respond and no extra swell from it, rather less swell. (PS - she isn't treating the LE, she is trying to work around it).

It lasted about 2 hours then pain came back but doing ok.

Today, I'm doing ok again.  The pain level is about a 2 unless you touch the area then it jumps to a 5/6.  I am going to test it out this week and start walking again to see how it reacts.  Acupuncturist reminds me that just being at the point of "thinking" about doing things, I am also at the point of doing things.  She sees that as progress because even when I overdue and hurt, it is better than constant pain and being a couch potato.

I'm very sad today - can't stop crying.  One of our Workmates was in a fatal car crash.  It was the founder of the company's son.. I have no words.
