Whilst going through surgery & chemo last year, I was toying with the idea of a tattoo. I've never had one, and came from a background which tended to look negatively on tattoos. I have come to like and respect them. I wasn't quite brave enough to go for the full permanence of an ink tattoo, so went with the idea of a henna tattoo. I just googled "henna tattoo artist" in our local area, and picked the nearest. I was very fortunate - she is not only highly skilled, but a lovely, warm, kind person too. I'm not quite sure why I wanted a tattoo - part of me feels the area is never going to be what it was, so why not try something a little adventurous instead. With henna, I can scrub it off if I don't like, and go back for more when I do feel like it.

Bhavna created a wonderful henna tattoo for me around the cancer surgery scar, where I had had a left breast mastectomy with DIEP flap reconstruction. I was a little apprehensive – this was a lot of “firsts” – first henna tattoo, first tattoo, and plenty of other reasons to be nervous. As soon as I walked in, Bhavna put me at ease. It was plain to see she was a lovely person, as well as incredibly skilled and talented at what she does. The whole process was very quick, and Bhavna was very clear with her explanations on what to do, how best to preserve the henna and what to expect. She is very fortunate in that she obviously loves what she does. Her warmth, infectious humour and overall enthusiasm means that I will definitely go back again, and I highly recommend her if you are into having fun & looking beautiful ;)

She has also created absolutely beautiful henna tattoos for ladies who have lost their hair through chemo. I wish I'd thought of it when I was at that stage - it would have been so much more fun than what how my head looked ;) !
