Removal of areoles and nipples

After a NSM exactly 3 years ago, I have to have my nipples and areoles removed.  I have had a recurrence of DCIS and it's what both my BS and PS are recommending.  Surgery scheduled for 6/24. I'm so disappointed, but realize that it's better than a lot of other things that could have happened.

When I saw my PS yesterday we did not discuss nipple reconstruction of any kind.  I think I will want something.  Certainly thinking about Vinny and 3D tattoos.  Did my PS not bring it up because I will need to wait after surgery?  He's going to try not to remove my implants because it's only been three years, but may have to because he may need to decrease the size by 50 cc's-which again I can live with.

Can anyone tell me me about the waiting period?

Most tattoo artist like to wait six months to a year before tattooing over scars to let the healing complete.   Personally my tattoo artist has me waiting a year

Pat - So sorry for the recurrence but glad they caught it. I think Vinny addresses the timeline  on his site. Six months sounds about right. My 3D Vinnies look so real I not only think they are mine, I know they are mine. Since I had them done last fall, I noticed that the wait time has gotten longer and longer. For me it was totally worth the trip to MD.

Vinnie requires a five month wait after surgery.  That puts me in the middle of September, but the wait list is longer.  ;)  I'm trying to hold out for NOLA but they aren't booking for 2015 yet.  If I can't get in early next year, I may give in and book it in MD.

Thanks all. It certainly makes sense that I will have to wait at least 6 months.  I guess that's why my PS didn't bring it up.  One step at a time.
