Rib pain...fear it's spreading
Comments

Had rib pain prior to learning of my BC late January. Doctors suggested it was from my mild scoliosis. Now here we are in June, all finished with chemo and the pain is worse than when I started. BMX and lymph node removal is scheduled for next week and I'm feeling a bit lost and confused and kind of angry, been telling my MO for the past month or two about the recurring pain in my left rib to which he tells me is nothing. Just read over the docs from my second opinion regarding the PET scan which indicated a lesion on my rib (which neither doctor ever told me about) with no suspect of cancer but recommendation for follow up. ...now really starting to worry!!!

I just don't know what to do. Fearing it is too late.

Stunned,
Sorry you have this this worry about, along with your upcoming surgery.
I have no advice, or similar experience. I have read that we all have spots, lumps & bumps, that are totally harmless.
Odds are your course of treatment would of been the same. If the pain continues, ask them to biopsy it while you are under, during surgery.

Sunset - k you are scheduled for surgery so I agree with Holenone tell them again, they can be dismissive but after all it is your life. Be persistent. Your second opinion speaks volumes. Better be safe. May not b the C word but its something. My ONC told me if I had persistent pain to c her ASAP and not go to my GP. Try not to worry and let us know.

I just wish we could all have MO that were persistent about the pain issue without the patient (us) having to throw a fit! I've told my MO repeatedly about back pain and he still sees no cause for a scan! Told me to continue with PT, chiro and massage! Just how long? I don't see him again until August! I never have understood the definition of persistent....because my pain is NOT all the time, but it comes and goes almost at some point during everyday! Occasionally I'll have a day free from pain! So is this why he is not concerned, would the pain be more consistent if it were the C?

I understand that people in Stage IV say if you have continuous pain for two weeks with no let up that is when C is suspected.....otherwise they can just be odd pains and aches from treatment or hormones etc.......

I was diagnosed with Stage 4 from the git go Dec. 13. I have rib pain but I am attributing it to daily arimidex...I will know for sure the end of this month when I go back for CT of chest and Body scan....Yep it makes me nervous but I feel well otherwise. Carolyn from Fl/Tn

car2tenn. looks like we both are getting scanned at the end of the month, me on the 27th, i think. i think i was supposed to get a pet/ct scan after treatment, but never did. And i was recently re-reading all of my papers, and noticed where it said, i had right renal uptake, and lung nodules, before surgery and tx's. hmmm, no one ever mentioned them to me. was i really stage four? i dont know, but a couple weeks ago, i casually mentioned those things to my onc, and asked him why i never got a follow up scan, he was happy to order one for me. but the thing is, i always felt fine until after surgery, and since then,my ribcage has always hurt. a lot.
