3 week vs. 6 week radiation protocol - anyone do the 3 week?

Options

Hi all!  Had my consultation with my radiation oncologist and she told me I qualified for a clinical trial / research trial for a radiation protocol that is higher dose and only 3 weeks in length.  Sounds like it is accepted practice in Europe and Canada and they feel strongly that the benefits are the same.   I need to decide if I want to be put into a 'lottery' that would determine if I got the normal 6 week treatment or the 3 week - could go either way - or just straight to 6 week.

Anyone have any experience with this?  I've got some time to decide because I'm waiting for my oncotype results to determine if I'll need chemo.

    Hi dfroberts

I had 3 weeks or radiotherapy which included (can't remember how many) but a few booster sessions and they also used a bolus in the area where the actual cancer was to maximise the amount of radiotherapy given to that area.  I was surprised not or receive at least 4-6 weeks but think it was because of the boosters and the bolus.  This month is was 7 years ago that I was diagnosed.

I did 3 weeks of radiation treatments and then 1 week of boosts, so I had a total of four weeks. This was my second time with BC. The first time I had the 6 weeks. I didn't notice much difference in skin, soreness, etc. It was nice being done sooner. Good luck!
