Kate - sorry about the job. Another better one is around the corner waiting for you to find it.
I'm scared for my mammogram too. I saw my surgeon on Friday and he said everything seemed fine, my mammo is this Wednesday. I really think that my blood pressure is so high because last week was the year mark since my mastectomy and now I'm getting my mammo this week. I think once I get the green light that my blood pressure will come down. I did get a massage on Saturday and that helped. My niece is a licensed massage therapist and I've wanted to have her give me one for quite a while but have been scared to lay on my stomach, I know it is silly. My blood pressure was in the normal range Saturday after the massage and yesterday. Today it was up again but not too high to worry about.
The iron pills are working, I'm not off balance and not as tired. I will ask my Onc next month if the anastrozole could have something to do with that. Speaking of anastrozole I'm still not back on it. He told me to stop taking it and see my GP to see what could be causing my aches and pains. Of course she was concerned about my other issues and ordered the blood work and the only problem was the really low iron. She said flat out that my aches and pains are because of the anastrozole. So I haven't gone back on it......I think I will wait and see him next month and go from there. I still have the aches and pains but not as bad.....hoping they will go away.
Pat come visit me next winter and you can play in the snow here. In fact we had snow last Monday, it was only a little but it snowed.
-
oh, I love the snow! So does my younger sister. Watch out, we could be on your doorstep one day! Lol
-
Come on over for a visit, I have a guest bedroom and bathroom. The mountains are beautiful in the summer and winter.
-
Thanks for your support guys. It really was a toxic situation for me - I'm sure it's best for me to be out of there health wise. And I know I'll find something else. Right now, this little bit of downtime is absolute bliss. I didn't realize how hard I was pushing myself.....
Today is my mammo
I'm not looking forward to it...deep breathes. I remember going to that docs office for my lump and not really giving it a second thought and the next minute I'm getting an U/S and a biopsy!!!
My mom's cousin Wendy has been diagnosed with Anal Cancer
She called me the other day for some advice as she is in the beginning of this with no staging or treatment plan.....Cancer is SO rampant in my family. My mum, my uncle (her brother), my grandmother, me, now Wendy who is my mum's first cousin.....
Okay....going to force myself out for a run this morning. Cross your fingers for me!!!!
-
I crossed my fingers for both of us Kate. I had my mammo today and all is good, YAY! I was told by the radiologist at the Breast Care Center that next year I can just have a regular screening instead of a diagnostic test. About an hour later my surgeon called me to let me know he had just received the results and everything looked good. Hopefully my blood pressure will go back to the more normal ranges. Happy day! Now I have the Komen walk for the cure on Saturday. I will have to take a picture of me in my shirt and post it.
I hope everyone is also having a good day.
Teresa
-
Teresa mine was good too. I was a little worried because it was taking so long and was so painful and after she was done, I was sitting in the waiting room in my little pink wrap gown and she said, I need to get another image and I had to sit and wait til the room was free again. But all was good. My breast is so dense and now has scar tissue from the lift so it's really hard for them to see what's going on. Next year she said I could have an MRI if I wanted so I decided to just for peace of mind. So I guess til then, I just get on with life!!!!
Had a couple of job interviews this week - things look good out there in the "job field". I just saw my old job posted, even though I was told they were going to eliminate and outsource!!!! Part of me is thinking about filing a discrimination suit. Being in remission from cancer is considered a disability!
-
So good to hear both Kate and Teresa had positive outcomes! -
Yes congrats to both of you. How did your walk go today Teresa? Kate keeping my fingers crossed for you to get the perfect job for you.
Time for me to find a job. My disability ran out. With this last surgery the Dr. actually said June 14th but state disability doesn't go past a year. Really don't think my energy level is up to it, nor my brain, but oh well. Going to apply for unemployment on Monday and see what happens there.
Happy Mother's Day!!!!! Enjoy!!!!

Happy Mothers Day to all of you! The walk was amazing! After the walk they did the survivors parade, it was very emotional. They had banners for different groups and you walk behind the banner that you fit into. The first banner was newly diagnosed then survivors 1-5 years and so on. There was one lady there that had a banner for 50 years, WOW. Then at the end of the parade they took a picture of all of the survivors on the steps of the justice building. So many cheers from our friends and families!!! My sister and daughter were crying too. My Mom fell and hurt her hip 5 weeks ago and hasn't been walking very good, in face has been using a walker. Her and my Dad didn't make it. Last night when she went to take a step she was in so much pain she couldn't move her leg. When she first fell they got it x-rayed and it showed nothing. Took her to the hospital and did a CT scan, yup it's broke. Said it was probably cracked 5 weeks ago but wasn't able to be seen on an X-ray. Last night was the last straw for it and it broke. Now we wait for a hip replacement. In the last 4 years she has had back surgery and a knee replacement. Happy Mothers Day to my Mom. I went straight from my work last night to the hospital, got to bed at 5:30 am. I am really sore from the walk and work, in fact my ankle is swollen today.
-
So my birthday came and went last tuesday.... my girls all came down to salem for dinner, but no card or gift from the hubby... & I'm the type to take him on a helicopter ride for his bday... A card would have been enough.. oh well!
I actually didn't hop on to bitch.. lol
I want to wish all of you a very happy mothers day! We are here this year for it!
Love you all!!
-
Happy Mother's Day to all of you! Today was a lot better than last year. I read your posts every day and enjoy them. Just do not post much. I have finished 16 chemo and 28 radiation treatments. I will have a PET scan on Wednesday to see how things look. Have a good week!
-
Welcome Algranna Hope all goes well with your PET scan.
Teresa your walk sounds great. One you won't forget. Hope your Momma's hip replacement goes well and that it comes quickly.
Lorrie HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY.
Carla
-
Lorrie Happy Late Birthday, I wish it could have been better.....we love you! -
talking about birthdays, my mom had her 94th on May 13th. 94. Besides her dementia, she is as healthy as can be. My 61st is on Monday. Lots of May babys.
While my daughter from N.y. was visiting for Mother's Day weekend, she used her hair straightener on me. What a difference. Curly hair is nothing I look good in. For mom's day she bought me one. I like it.
It was funny, when I picked her up at the airport, I decided to go into the terminal and surprise her. I kind of hid tell I saw her back and started walking with her. Was less then a foot from her side and just kept looking at her face as we were walking, waiting for her to look at me. She didn't' I couldn't keep a straight face and started to chuckle. She finally looked and got my hugs. She had thought I was some weird person just looking at her and was wondering when I was going to leave. She hadn't seen me with curly brown ( was grey before)hair and I am about 10 pounds thinner. So her peripheral of me was unrecognizable.
Algranna how did your pet scan go?
Have a good day.
Carla
-
I am walking on the Susan G. Komen walk tomorrow. It's the first night walk they are doing in the nation and supposed to have pink fireworks over the capitol! Should be fun - I know my 6 year old will think it's awesome.
-
Carla....my PET scan was clear. I was a nervous wreck. I am on Femera for 5 plus years and my onocologist said I will see him for the rest of my life, every three months right now. I am fine with that.
Thank you for asking. Hope you are doing well. Was your hair curly before chemo? Mine was but is a lot curlier now. Have a good weekend.

greetings Ladies.
I am planning ahead, way ahead, and have booked a cruise for August 2015. I am in the process of getting family and friends...the more the merrier. Once 8 cabins are booked (which we are close to) we will start to get group incentives.
A promenade room, which is an interior room with a window that overlooks the interior of the ship (NOT the ocean) is $1775, which is a total cost for two, includes taxes, insurance and gratuities. (Price does not include airfare) A $250 per person, REFUNDABLE* deposit is required. *thedeposit amount is not refundable after a certain date in May of 2015. Full payment is due in May of 2015. I booked two promenade rooms which was more affordable than trying to get the family into one cabin! And really, who wants to share a room with the kids! My rooms are on the deck 8. Dinner seating at 6.
Royal Caribbean has a promo running Buy first person second in the same cabin goes for half price. The promo ends MAY 31, this month! You can play with their website and see the pricing of the other rooms (interior no view, ocean view, balcony, suites). Be sure to look at the proper date. August 8 2015 and put your settings for number of people etc. Then put it in your "buy" to see pricing, if you click on continue you can scroll down that next page and see the gratuities, and insurance costs. I highly recommend the insurance. My mom broke her back when she was supposed to go on a cruise and she got her money back!
If you even think you might want to go I recommend booking prior to the end of the sale...you can always cancel, like I said, by May of 2015 and get your deposit back.
Anyhow, I know we had all talked about getting together, I thought I would throw this out there. Below is the itinerary. If you are going to book please consider using my travel agent as she can add you to the group. If you are on facebook I can then add you to a cruise group of people going on this, just let me know and we can work that out.

Pat Sounds like an absolutely wonderful vacation. Doesn't look like we'd be able to. Bit who knows maybe it could happen for us. Hope some us (all would be better) on this forum could go. What an ace way to meet up.
Carla
-
Patti - what a wonderful idea. We can't swing it for next year with the Bar Mitzvah and our (Hopeful) trip to England this year....but the itinerary looks awesome.
So much going on here. Firstly, I filed a discrimination charge with the EEOC against the company that fired me. Did you know that being in remission from Cancer is considered a disability?? The EEOC thought I had a good case and when I spoke to my "nurse advocate" last week she said that I was one of several women that she deals with that got fired during breast cancer.
2nd, I got a new job! It's a job I really wanted. The money isn't great - it's quite a bit less than I was making, but I think i'll be really happy there - it's a great company and one of my really good friends works there. So I have a few more days off and I start on Wednesday.
I'm going for a Colonoscopy on Tuesday. I'm not really relishing the "prep" process. I've had stomach issues for so long and I went to see a Gastroentrologist and she said there's a link between Breast and Colon cancer now! Typical. I don't think I have colon cancer but I think it will be good to get this screening done and see if I can sort out my "issues"
Today is the first Friday in a year that I haven't been going to the Clinic to get my herceptin treatment. I FEEL GOOD!!!! I am tanned, my hair is growing back - I feel attractive again for the first time in ages....I do have to go back to the PS and get touch up on my nipple tattoo - the color didn't take as well as he was hoping it would.
Okay - it's 10:30 and I'm still in my PJ's so I need to get into the shower and get productive....
xx
-
awesome news Ukkate! A new job so quickly, fantastic. Regarding the tattoo,,,consider going to Vinnie Myers. He does a 3D tattoo I hear wonderful things about. A lot of women in the regular plastic surgeons office complain of fading. Vinnies tattoos are better quality. Google him. I'm so glad things are looking up for you.
Carla, I know the trip is steep, but thought I would try to get the ball rolling on a get together. Hopefully someone else has a better idea to share!
May is almost done, hard to believe its a year since we all started chemo.
Pat
-
Ukkate congrats on your new job. Did you start yesterday? And no more herceptin. Yay! Haven't done a colonoscopy before but really ought to. Just not quite up to going under again quite yet.
Pat yes May is about over. May 30th will be my one year anniversary of starting chemo. Gives me the the chillly willys. We've come a long way....Glad you're getting the ball rolling for us all to get together.
)) Something will come up for us and will take hold.
Last Tuesday when I saw my wound doctor( who is also my P.S.), I told him my State disability had run out so I filed for e.d.d. and was looking for work. Mentioned I was going to have a phone interview and one of the questions was if I had my doctor's approval. He said he absolutely wouldn't approve of me returning to work because of my wound from surgery and not able to lift the weight needed due to surgery. Told that to my interviewer. Was denied unemployment until I get the drs. O.k. ..But at least it looks like a go at that point. Looking forward for that income to start rolling in. Also interested in what job God has in store for me in the future.
Best to all - Carla
-
I'm going on a cruise in November out of Cape Canaveral. I am really looking forward to it. The prices are quite a bit less expensive than the cruise you're going on Pat, maybe because mine is on Carnival? I've been going on a cruise once a year since my husband passed away with my sister. We didn't go last year because of cancer but I am back on track now. My brother and his wife are going on this cruise as well, the more people you know the more fun you have.
-
Only 3 Herceptin infusions left! Yay!!! Got scheduled to get my port removed in July (after my last Herceptin). So excited to get the port out of me! Although it has been a blessing so I don't have to be poked all around for the infusions, I really hate it at the same time.
Go Kate! Good for you - so happy you got a new job and so quickly!
A cruise sounds like fun for those of you going - I can't bring myself to do one of those...I get terribly seasick. Enjoy and celebrate getting through a year or so of cancer treatments!
You ladies rock
-
MomofSam that is just round the corner. I am happy for you.
Theresa sounds like a lot of fun. I'm beginning to understand the importance of having events to look forward to.
A few days ago I was llistening to Home and Family. A guest on there had stage 1 breast cancer, went into remission, then after awhile found she had stage 4. Can't remember how long she's been in stage 4. About 1 1/2 years ago, she joined a study trial for a drug that doesn't cure cancer but it treats it sort of like metformin treats diabetes. It is supposed to keep it under contol. So far it is working for her. Her belief, along with whoever is putting this pill out, is that cancer can't be cured but it can be controlled. First time I've heard that theory.
Best to all. -Carla

Things are so quiet in here now. Last summer we were all going through the worst part of our cancer treatments and now things are slowly getting back to normal. Things here in Utah are going well. I'm going on a trip with my daughter for a week, we leave the end of June. Her husband is starting a new job so he won't be going with, he might be able to join us for a weekend of it but we don't know yet. Either way the 2 or 3 of us will have a lot of fun. I started seeing a new guy 5 weeks ago and we are getting along really well. Who knows this could be the one for my next long term relationship. On June 2nd I would have been married for 32 years, crazy! -
Teresa where are you going on your trip? It's nice that you are going to have some mom and daughter time. And a new guy. Excellent. Fingers crossed for you. Yes. It has been really quiet here.
MomofSam how many more herceptin infusions do you have left now?
Kate how's your new job going?
Pat what's up buttercup?
Lorrie anything new?
Algranna just noticed that you asked if my hair was curly before. No. Just a slight wave. In order to keep my hair from being super curly now, I brush it flat to my head and let it dry. Helps a lot. Straightener iron takes care of it otherwise. Some ladys look cute or pretty with curly hair. Not I.
Best to all.
Carla
-
Hard to believe it has been a year. My hair is about two inches now and super curly.
Has anyone had a mammogram on the masectomy side? My ps and surgeon said no mammograms ever but my onocologist wants me to have one. He said even with a double mx there is still some flesh that is not taken out.
Hope everyone s doing great.
-
Algranna my hair is about 2 inches also. Maybe 3 in spots. When I did my mammogram, they did not do my mastectomy side.
Carla
-
algramma, yes, there is still tissue. Seems no one can get a straight answer. If you have a doctor willing to write a prescription and your insurance is willing to pay, why not? Did your plastic surgeon say it could have a negative effect on your implants?...I think that would be my only concern. I am a DIEP reconstruction, I was told no scans. Meanwhile there are women with DIEP, on another thread, talking about getting MRI's (which I have no faith in anyway as it didn't pick up all my cancer!). Seems to me it's a crap shoot.
Hi Carla! Trying to keep out of trouble here. End of school year and my lazy children don't want to study. Ugh! Only 2 more weeks of school! Then we are going on a cruise my MIL paid for everyone to go. Heading to Bermuda. Looking forward to getting out of here. I'm so desperate for change of scenery I've booked some timeshare things in the Berkshires for end of summer and again in September for the Jewish holidays (we will be off for a 4 day weekend! ). Thankfully the weeks were on sale, $200 for a week! Hope you are keeping out of trouble. Have you taken Biotin for your hair! I take 5,000 units a day. My hair is growing like a weed.also eat a lot of protein. Let me know when your next visit to NY is, would love to see you again.
-
We are going to Las Vegas for two days to have some fun then to Phoenix Arizona for three days to spend time with my in laws, we haven't seen them for two years so it will be great to catch up. Then we go to Northern Arizona for my Moms side of the families reunion for two days then back home. I love road trips! I will miss my new man though.....things are still going really well. Our time in Las Vegas is going to be CHEAP. We both play a game on Facebook called MyVegas and we earn rewards we can actually use in Las Vegas just by playing it. So our room for both nights will be free, so will meals, drinks and even chips to play with at different casinos. The great thing is that we haven't put any money in to the game but we are getting great stuff out of it. Oh yeah and free shows, I'm pretty excited. Vegas is a 6 hour drive from here, then Phoenix will be another 6 but on a different day. The drive to the reunion will be about 2 hours then when we head home it will be 8 hours from there.I haven't used Biotin but my hair looks like I used to wear it only wavy and I love it. The length of mine ranges from 2-4", but remember I had a haircut/style almost two months ago too. Plus a shaping cut before that. Life is going well here......well I still have my aches, maybe I am getting too used to them.....
