hi ladies,

I had my exchange June 2 and the past few days I've experienced a tingling sensation in my hands. I wonder if any of you ladies have experienced that? Not sure if it's nerves or what?!? I was thinking I'd give it a few days, if it doesn't go away I'll call ps...

Wow, Mommyathome, your post just about got lost in the tangle of new posts yesterday! Sorry about that. Yes, tingling in the hands can be an early sign of lymphedema. Fluid builds up in the tissues well BEFORE any swelling is visible, so tingling or heaviness, aching, or just any "weird" feeling anywhere in the entire affected quadrant (hand, arm, shoulder, back, side, axilla, breast or chest) could be an early warning of trouble brewing. And with lymphedema early intervention can save you a world of grief, so do consider getting a referral for an evaluation by a qualified lymphedema therapist--any doctor on your team can write it. Here's how to find one near you:

I notice on another post of yours you mention a firmness or hardness in an area of your recon. That too is well worth checking out, since breast/chest (truncal) lymphedema is also best caught early.

Hoping it's all just part of the surgery healing process and you won't be joining us "swell" sistahs, but please know we're here for you if you have any questions or concerns.

    Be well!
