Looks like the next lunch is at Sweetwaters near Arl. Blvd on June 7. I'll look for more info posted here. Thanks!!
-
I can't make it as I'll be w/ my sister, who is having surgery June 9. Sorry to miss it.
-
I can't make it--traveling.
-
Will folks be able to make it if we change it to June 14?
-
I am pretty much out of pocket for June. Any time at home I'll be having to do laundry to turn around and get on another plane....
-
I could do June 14th if that date works better for everyone.
-
I could do June 14.
-
I could make it on June 14 as well (June 7 doesn't work for me either).
-
june 14th works as of now!
-
Are we still good on Sweetwater Tavern in Fairfax (not Centreville) or any other suggestions???

Hi All, I don't know why it took me so long to get to this thread! But I live in Herndon VA, would love to join the lunch in June, 9th or 14th. I was DX in early January. On the neoadjuvant chemo regimen of 4 DD A/C and 12 weekly Taxol/Carboplatin. June 12th will be my last chemo day. Then surgery in July.
I would like to ask for some help here: I have an insurance situation where i will need to find a new surgeon to replace Dr Stephanie Akbari. The recommendations so far are: Dr Castanza Cocilovo, Dr Hernan Vargas, and Dr Kirsten Edmiston. Would appreciate very much if you have any feedback or input on any of these doctors.
Thank you all in advance,
Hugs,
Liyan
-
Loretta, have you had your surgery with Dr Vargas yet? What is your experience with him like? Thank you very much.
-
Cuetang, I am planning to see Dr Vargas next week. How was your experience with him? Thank you very much
-
Placid44, how are you doing? thank you for sharing your experience with Dr Cocilovo. I saw her last week and liked her very much too. She is very hands on and down to earth. I just saw a post from one of the ladies that she is among the top doctors in the Washingtonian magazine. I read on healthgrade.com that says she specializes in colon rectal surgery - I don't know if that was a mistake. I believe she started doing breast surgeries over 10 years ago? I have to find another surgeon pretty quickly here due to the end of chemo schedule. Thank you very much and take care. Liyan

The next luncheon is Saturday June 14th and we'd love to have you join us Lettinggo.
Now we just have to confirm where....
-
Cocilovo does breast and colon. She is the medical director of inova's breast cancer center as well as one of the main surgeons. She was at georgetown before that doing breast surgery.
-
Hi Leann! Good luck on finding the surgeon you are most comfortable with. Dr. Edmiston is also on the Washingtonian top doc list (she only performs breast surgeries), as are our MO Dr. Wilkinson & my RO Dr. Grayson. I cannot make lunch on June 7 (there is a bc brunch at Mt Vernon Hospital grounds that morning from 11-1), but I can make it on June 14th.
-
Lettingo,
And best wishes to you! I am doing ok. Glad to be done with treatment. Not always in a great mood. Adjusting...
-
hi lettinggo-- I like Dr. Vargas a lot and had a great experience so far with him. Feel free to PM me with any specific questions you have. Hope you see you at the next luncheon.
Odie--sweetwater in Fairfax works for me on June 14
-
Lettinggo,
I had my surgery with Dr. Vargas in February. I was very pleased with him. He did a great job explaining my options and answering all of my questions, is very compassionate, and has an excellent reputation as a surgeon. Also he was proactive in getting me PT before my surgery so I could learn my exercises beforehand. I won't be able to make the lunch on the 14th, but I also live in Herndon so if you'd like to get together for coffee or something, feel free to private message me.

Thank you, odie16, Placid44, MomMom, Cuetang, LorettaMc, i appreciate your response and input. Been really stressful trying to pick a surgeon again- almost like going through the first month of treatment. Saw Dr Edmiston and Dr Cocilovo and surprised to find out some differences regarding SNL dissection: Dr E says she will not take out any nodes even if the SNL are positive unless it is really bulky and obvious, but she will recommend radiation after MX. Dr C and my original surgeon Akbari's position is if SNL are positive then a few 10-20 of the axillary nodes will be taken out and then radiation is possible or may not needed. Dr Akbari strongly recommended Dr Vargas so i am going in to see him in a few days. Dr E also starts on the unaffected breast first to avoid contamination - has anyone heard of such a thing? But Dr C starts with the cancer breast. I feel like i am dragged into the initial anxiety of the first few weeks of DX which is not fun at all. I also like Fairoaks hospital over Fairfax if that can be helped. Thank you all again for all your input. take good care ladies and see you on June 14th.. thanks
