Also, anyone here have prosthetic nipples or plan on getting them?  I just learned about them and am going to research those as well.

p.s. I think I am going to have to go to Victoria Secret of something to get sized for some bras because all my old bras hang too low now!

It's not capsular contracture as the entire implant isn't distorted.  It's the scar tissue inside from past biopsies that is creating the hardened scar.  It's hard but there is some softness.  I have Allergan high profile smooth.  I have spoken with the PS and he advised massaging to help break up the scar tissue.  Just wondering if anyone has had success with massage or can offer any other advice.  I am massaging 2-3 times daily with castor oil which was advised by my massage therapist.

pink, can you get a recommendation for PT? If they are skilled in Cancer patients they know all about scar tissue and can help. If not, seems you are on the right track.

pinklotus - I had / have a lot of internal scarring from the original excisional biopsy back in July of 2013.  It wasn't so bad with the TEs because it was being stretched and appeared fairly normal.  But once I had my exchange to squishies, that scar tissue retracted with a vengeance!   And yes, my PS said the same thing... massage the daylights out of it.  So I did.  It hurt a lot at the beginning but grew to hurt less and less as I made it a routine.  My PS didn't think I needed PT so she wouldn't prescribe it.  Well, guess what?  I'm having a revision in a couple of weeks (with a NEW PS) and the first thing he'll be doing is restructuring that scar tissue so it won't pull anymore and distort the foob.  Yes, you massaging it daily will help, but I would push for a referral to PT if it's a relatively large area.  Hope that helps you a little...

hjpz - check out the bra thread on this site - I think it's Bra's 101.  Lots of good recommends but if I remember correctly, Victoria's Secret wasn't one since they don't take into account the width of implants.  I guess it depends on each individual's final size.

I've also read about nipple recon on these threads but don't remember where.

    Mommyathome,

How are you feeling?  Is your pain better yet? How about your energy? I'm doing good. I don't see much change yet in these couple of days but didn't really expect to after reading what the other ladies have experienced. Say or in the sunshine for a while today, and took a short walk. It sure is hard to be patient. I still have quite a bit of swelling.

I was sent home with a soft surgical bra, is it ok to wear any sports bra with hooks in the front as long as it's soft or is there a reason to just stick with the bra they gave me?( it needed washed!!)  My instructions say wear a bra 24/7 for the first week. Is it necessary to wear a bra after that? Can the implants shift sideways or anything?

Simple - every single doc has a different rule about bras - now & later.  Be sure to keep it on 24/7 for the first week since that's what you were instructed, and give your doc a call to ask about the next week.  I got an extra surgical bra from my PS.

simplelife I am a little over a month out and still only comfortable in a bra. I tried to go without one last night but it feels weird to me.  I had to wear one 24/7 the first week per my PS and then he said it was up to me but no underwire but my chest feels too heavy to me without a bra if that makes sense.  I am petite (5'2 118 lbs) so I am not sure if this is impacting my ability to get used to the implants or what.  Overall they do feel much better than when I first got them though.  Like MinusTwo said I would go with whatever you Dr. recommends about bra wearing.

FYI  - I took Arnica Montana and Bromelain before/after both of my surgeries and had no bruising or swelling.  I mention this  just in case others want to check into that with their PS before surgery to see if they are ok with this too.  My PS wants me to print out the info and bring it to my next appointment because he was impressed with my results.  Of course, like I said, this would totally be up to your own doctor so if they are not ok with it go with what they recommend.   I found out about these supplements (they are all natural) on a few PS websites as a recommendation for ladies who were getting breast augmentation (after this whole ordeal I told my PS that I can't believe anyone would do this voluntarily!)

Mommyathome and Simplelife I am wishing you the best of luck in your recovery :)

    Simplelife,

I'm doing better today! Yesterday I tried to take my 4 year old to the park which is about a 20 minute car ride away. I got down my street and started to feel VERY nauseous ( to the point I was looking for a bag to get sick in) and then got very dizzy. I had to come back home. I felt so bad for my daughter, we had her bike in the van and everything!

Feeling better today. I still have seem bleeding/discharge in my bra. Dr said its ok as long as incisions stay closed.... Freaks me out!!!

We are going as a family to the Relay for Life in town. The kids are excited. Me too I guess this year it just has a different feel/meaning to it. Oh well.

Hope you r all doing great and have a wonderful weekend!!!! The sun is shining and the birds are chirping!!

Minus 2 and hipz, thanks for the info. I see PS on Tuesday so can check with him then on continued bra wearing. I was told absolutely no underwire, and noticed others are told underwire 24/7. Different PS,  different thoughts???

Hipz, I had a friend who recommended the Arnica, and I forgot all about it. Is it too late to take it now? I do have some on hand.

Mommyathome, I'm so happy you are feeling better! Are you taking pain meds, because that really makes me nauseous. Are you getting enough rest?? I was told no driving for first 1-2 weeks. I'm sorry you are not past that nausea by now. I get that way also if I need to rest or nap. I hope you are not overdoing it.  You take care of yourself, and give your body time to heal. I know that's so hard with little ones!! Children are so accommodating though, they will find other things to do in a short time so don't beat yourself up over not getting to the  park.

It sounds like your family will have a nice weekend  being outdoors. Yes it sure does bring the Relay For Life  close now when we are sitting on the side of cancer. It is a rainy day here and cold for our walk. Think I will stay inside and rest. Love to you, you are on my mind so much as I wonder how you are doing many times a day. Hang in there my exchange partner! Hugs!

    Simplelife,

What state are you in? Thanks for your post! I'm not lifting, doing much. I was under the impression once I was off pain meds I can drive.. Guess I'll have to check on that!!! I'm taking ibuprofen in hopes on getting swelling down and pain relief. Pains not too bad... Every now and then feel like bruised. I was told sports bra then wear underwire!! But my sheet says no underwire! Ugh!! I haven't worn underwire for like 15 years!!! She said I could get fabric patted brs. She said implant is heavy so I need something to keep it from drooping. I got allergan style 20 750 cc.... How about you?

MommyAtHome - just a tip that someone passed to me - use light day panty liners inside your bra instead of complicated bandages for the drainage from your incisions.  I also used the heavy Kotex pads right after both surgeries.

An anesthesiologist once told me it takes about a week for the affects of general anesthesia to wear off for every hour you were out. I'm sure the kind of general anesthesia drugs you had plays a part, but over the past year with numerous procedures under general anesthesia, I can say that rule of thumb is about right. You may feel fine at home, but driving is something else. After one of the reconstruction surgeries, I didn't realize I still had any leftover affects until I started driving two weeks later. I was about a block from home. Everything looked odd all of the sudden and I realized I'd made an error in judgment. I got sweaty and anxious. I became more aware of my limitations when I tried to turn the wheel to go home. Ouch. Two weeks was much too soon, even though I had never been on narcotics. (Allergic to narcotics & opiates.)  So it's not just the pain drugs...your body has to get rid of the general anesthesia too.

Mommy, my sheet says no ibu or NSAIDs for the first week, it can increase bleeding. My pain is not bad at all either. I'm so glad you are better. I thinks like Sandra says, the anesthetic can affect us for a while.  I'm in Wisconsin. I have the Allergan 15, 492cc. I think they are a lower profile, but whippetmom said she thinks I will be happy with them. I didn't want to be too big, but that's just me. I have not had any drainage onto the gauze pads since I came home. Just a tiny amount that very first day. My left side is more swollen than my right, but that's the side the expander was way high and kind of squarish too. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. Are you feeling better with your healing? Hugs to you

I'm trying to get some things done in preparation for my surgery on the 20th.  I've been putting some meals in the freezer and got to wondering how long it might be after surgery before I'm up to things like meal prep?  I know everyone is different in how fast they recover but would you say that by 2 weeks out you felt well enough to cook meals??  I didn't cook a thing after BMX for probably 4 weeks.  But I think I'm also on the wimpy side of things :)

Most people will be fine at 2 weeks or even sooner. A few of us weren't. It was my hardest surgery to recover from and I needed 4 weeks. But, as I say, I'm in a small minority. As long as you aren't lifting heavy pots, cooking should be fine. Really it all.depends on the restrictions your PS gives you on doing things with your arms. One day I decided to wipe down the kitchen counters. The next day I was sore all day.

simplelife - I took my Arnica for 2 weeks after surgery.  I would be freaked out if I had blood too!  I have no bandages or blood.  I feel blessed.  I didn't even know that was a possibility!   I am sorry you had to leave the park early    I hope things are even better today!

Congrats Sherri!  That is awesome and I am super jealous :)

kcat - everyone is different for recovery time.  I was up and about after a few days once my body got rid of the anesthesia and I switched from pain meds to Advil at day 3.

    Hi ladies,

I had my exchange on Monday june2. The past couple days my hands have had weird sensations. It's hard to explain it but let me try. It's like pins and needles but not painful like if your hand fell asleep more like little pin pricks going into my hand. Anyone experience this??? I might have to call ps AGAIN!!! Called a few days ago because there was some  blood on the inside of my bra from the incision. She said to just make sure incision doesn't actually open up, otherwise that should be fine, but now these damn pin pricks!!!

Hipz, it was me that asked about Arnica, but Mommy that had the bleeding....and had to leave the park due to not feeling good, but we both had surgery last Mon:)  (we are surgery buddies)  I think I will take my Arnica then. I have not had any bleeding since I got home. There is old blood on steri strips, that's all. Thanks for info.

Arnica is a natural pain reliever and helps with swelling and bruising. It is found at health food stores. How are things looking Mommy? I still have some visible bruising, but I'm shaping up ok. Still short of flat looking too and some swelling.
