This seems to work when I have computer or printer problems. It's worth a try......

Surf---
so true.
-
LOL, Surf!!! Definitely something for my living will.
-
surfdreams - thanks for the laugh!
I agree - nothing odd here. I have planned my funeral, thought of having a goodbye party so I can be there, even pretended in the middle of the night, in the dark with my eyes closed, that I was dying and surprisingly was not afraid.
Thinking about where I want my ashes to go - definitely not on a mantlepiece!
But today is a good day, and I plan to enjoy it.
-
Catching up here, laughing at the wit & creativity. I think I'm a bit of an oddball on the funeral thing. I think sometimes that my funeral is the least interesting event in my future. People will just turn me into who they needed me to be ( often so unrelated with who I think I am...) one more time and I won't be there to get miffed (and get even?) Like going to family gathering and feeling like I'm 12 again except i have zip chance of getting in the last word.
Wonder if anyone would honor my wish to release a flock of crows....settle for magpies in a pinch.

I think everyone's funeral wish must be honored. It's got to be very bad karma to go against someone's final wishes, I imagine. I intend to dictate exactly how my funeral goes! I actually want it to be kind of fun, with a few somber moments thrown in for those who like that sort of thing.

Surfdreams, Thanks for the laughs! The "unplug me" photo makes me think of how my husband always tell me not to unplug him, but to "yank it like you're starting a lawnmower"! (He's a diehard Seinfeld fan.) He insists that if he can no longer laugh at Seinfeld episodes, enjoy his favorite cocktail, and eat his favorite meal without it being pureed, he's ready to go. One of the conditions used to be water ski, but that one fell by the wayside shortly after his 50th birthday (when he ended up in the ER after skiing in celebration). He insists the others are absolutes.
Several thoughts that have popped over recent weeks: In cleaning out my collection of clothes for donation, I came across a really old pair of pajamas, now very soft and comfy, and I thought, "Yep, this is what I will wear when I'm cremated!" Just one more thing to add to the list of instructions. And I really think I'm going to ask my husband to plan an "invitation only" memorial service for me, if I die first. I know I will no longer be present, but honestly, I cannot stand the thought that the friends, former colleagues, and others who have left me behind would have the opportunity to "find closure" or "say their goodbyes." If they really care, then they can abide by the wish I want included in my obituary: Perform an act of kindness or craziness or whatever else would fit Brenda's personality in her memory. (I'm still working in the wording.)

Am so glad I checked in here today! Got a laugh, got some new insights re: funerals and family gatherings and having the last word .... lots to consider! I am making this another good day also - and you have all helped it to get off to a roaring start! Thanks!

I thought those cartoon/photos were pretty funny. Friends of mine posted those on their facebook pages. Everyone can "like" it when THEY post it, but when I share the post on MY facebook page.....you can hear crickets in the quiet. Once again-- we can share these funny things here, without people thinking we're morose.
Brendatrue- work on that wording, because it sounds great so far, and I want to steal it when you finish tweaking it. And yes - I'll also tell my husband to yank that plug like he's starting a lawnmower!
I agree with you Jill 49 - I don't want to end up on a mantle where people have to mess with dusting me all the time.
My husband and I both want to be cremated and I've been talking to him about being interned in the local mausoleum. We toured it today, and while he was moping around - kind of depressed - I was like a kid in a candy store. I was shopping for vaults, based on their height from the floor (so someone could reach it to put flowers once in a while), realized that there is a marble podium in the center of the cross wings, so a memorial service could be held there with a view of the speaker from any wings. Chairs could be set up in those wings (I was imagining where the chairs could go). The acoustics were amazing! No microphone would be needed. A guitar would sound awesome in there. I could skip the middleman (the funeral home) and instead leave that money to the kids to take a cool vacation, instead of paying for the funeral director to take a cool vacation.
We really do live in an alternate reality from the rest of the world, don't we? My poor husband.

For some reason, I would love to write a few words to be read at my funeral. I'd probably start with "Well, if you're listening to this, it means I'm dead. But I want to get the last word, so.." Then again, I have no idea what I would say, except thank you to various people or something, I dunno!
-
Good beginning, raro. Keep writing!
-
love it Raro. Great idea.
-
raro,
Love the beginning . Want to add a "don't feel sorry for me, I have had a really good run, two great kids, wonderful friends, a career I have enjoyed etc. I want to say something about my marriage, although we are divorced, the majority of it was good
and I don't regret having doen it. Have to think about the wording on that one.
Maybe we can all keep adding some ideas for what each of us might like. Like brainstorming it will generate some ideas for all of us

Okay, continuing down the path of contemplating dying, death, and after-death, take a look at "The Lady and The Reaper," and make sure you don't stop viewing right when the end credits start. Enjoy!

Brenda, ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!

Okay, I'm not really searching the web for new ways to communicate with my MDs about pain. I think I've got that down pretty, pretty well. HOWEVER, if I am ever stymied, I will pull out the chart that is given at this link:
http://hyperboleandahalf.blogspot.com/2010/02/boyfriend-doesnt-have-ebola-probably.html
I think I might need to add a face that shows both pain and laughter, which is what my face must have looked like this morning.
-
love the chart Brenda!!
Very funny
-
Love it, Brenda!

Love the chart Brenda---seems more reasonable to me'

I heard this on a show I was watching today:
The doctor says to the patient,
"I've got bad news, and more bad news. The bad news is you've got cancer".
"And the more bad news?"
"You've also got Alzheimer's Disease".
So the patient thinks for a minute, and then says
"Well, at least I don't have cancer".
