    Silly Saturday!

A burglar broke into a house one night. He
shined his flashlight around, looking for valuables when a voice in the
dark said, 'Jesus knows you're here.'

He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off, and
froze. When he heard nothing more, he shook his head and continued.

Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard 'Jesus is watching you.'

Startled, he shined his light around frantically, looking for the
source of the voice. Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight
beam came to rest on a parrot.

'Did you say that?' he hissed at the parrot.

'Yes', the parrot confessed, then squawked, 'I'm just trying to warn you that he's watching you.'

The burglar relaxed. 'Warn me, huh? Who in the world are you?'

    'Moses,' replied the bird.

'Moses?' the burglar laughed. 'What kind of people would name a bird Moses?'

'The kind of people who would name a Rottweiler Jesus.'

Blue, I've heard that story so many times, but it always cracks me up. Yeah for Jesus and Moses.

    Morning Ladies,

It's a beautiful day ... might even get some mowing done.  So sick of finding ticks on me that I really do not enjoy mowing anymore.

Chaplain ... How lovely to see you again.  Hope all is well in your world.  That reminds me ... I've got a few bears to send your way.

Blue ... So sorry to hear you've been feeling kind of puny lately.  Sometimes I think we just feel bad, especially if your Parkinson's is acting up.  Your garden is so pretty.  Glad you have a place you can sit and catch your breath.  Been thinking about the summer we met up in Niagara ... sure do miss you.

Jackie ... Hope DH is doing better today.

    hugs,

    Bren

PS .. Blue ... got a kick out of the "Jesus" story.

Scott L. Smith: Let the record reflect the God honest truth.

And the "5" released, were not high level as the Republicans would like
you to believe. As a matter of fact - out of almost 780 detainees (that
we know of) only 13 have been prosecuted, 9 of them by Obama (yes, that
means Bush prosecuted 4 of them...) and only 7 have been convicted. Of
that number, 4 of the 5 "terrorists" that were suspected
of being a part of 911, were convicted once Obama pushed for military
commissions to prosecute faster. AND YES...that means Bush prosecuted
    ZERO terrorists connected to 911.

    Experts have acknowledged
that rules governing military commissions have improved since Obama
became president, yet the system at Guantanamo still remains deeply
flawed with issues. Republicans have blocked ANY measure to prosecute in
Federal courts, which are known to prosecute terrorism cases at twice
    the rate with less complications.

In the end - no one has gone
after terrorists like this President - yet they are still looking to
criticize him at every turn. All I ask, is to look at the results.

Who flew the terrorists family out of country to safety, and who tried
to keep them here, has prosecuted, captured or killed more - during
    their terms?

The truth shall set you free.

    Hi Buddies,

It's just past noon here.  Another beautiful day.  Wish it could be springtime all year round.  Ha! That's not going to happen unless I move back to San Diego!

Got three of the lower fields mowed yesterday.  It took a while to get it done ... just didn't enjoy it at all.  At least I didn't get any ticks on me.  I tried to be careful when I mowed under the trees not to bump the branches.

Blue .. Those posters are very interesting.  The Somalia/Texas one hit me pretty hard. I've got nothing against gun ownership, but just don't understand the need to be armed to the teeth just to get to the store.  When I used to travel around the southwest, I usually brought my .22 handgun with me.  I was in a lot of off the road places and just felt more secure having it with me.

I hope you're feeling better today.

    hugs,

    Bren

Blue, how disturbing about the babies.  Even given that things were much different then.  I'm so glad Ms. Corless  is doing what she can to set the record straight.  The truth always sets a person free.  I wish a whole lot more people could realize that.  Eventually, it all comes out.

Has this idiot read the preachings of Jesus of Nazareth? Shees.  I'm a Jew, and I know what he said - and it sounds an awful lot like what Pope Francis says.  Not a word about gay or gay marriage or favoring gun rights (sword rights?) or protecting the money of rich people against against taxation or regulation.  Not. One. Word.

Like the rest of her teavangelical ilk, Simple Sarah doesn't bother with the New Testament -- it's much too liberal and democratic for her taste and ideology.  Rather, she prefers to stick with (only parts of) the Old Testament, and if there are restrictions she likes, but that aren't in it, she'll put'em in anyway.  But why anyone still gives this nobody the time of day, still, boggles my mind.

Read something the other day from Neil deGrasse Tyson:

"The good thing about science is that it's TRUE, whether or not you believe in it".

    Hi Gal Pals,

Going to be warm today ... in the high 80's.  Better get a move on it before it gets too hot to mow.  Read about all the bad weather in the Midwest.  Hope all our friends out there are safe from the high winds and tornadoes.

I'm not surprised at all that Palin is "surprised" by some of the Pope's comments.  She.just.doesn't.get.it.

Blue ... I'm glad to hear the "fog" is starting to lift.  It sucks to feel lost in the fog.  Love your yard.  Sometimes I wish I still had a smaller yard like I did in San Diego.  It was so much easier to take care of and I was able to grow all kinds of roses and flowers that I'm not able to out here.  Is your back area completely fenced so the dogs can go out there?  My dogs are nuts .. they only want to go outside if I go with them!

    hugs,

    Bren

C for C....I read that phrase from Neil deGrasse Tyson before and wholeheartedly agree.  You can hide it, twist it, attempt to erase it, but in the end it just comes back stronger.   The truth really does spell freedom  because you really can't change it, or make it disappear forever.  Someday, maybe those like ( using your so very apt description ) Simple Sarah and her ilk will learn that.  Of course some heaving and shoving may go on first but denial  and non-acceptance of cold hard facts has a way of putting you in your non-descript, non-functioning place.  How long do any of these people want to look so inept and brainless.  If SS had a good friend.....they might tell her that she is  the epitome of totally stupid and inane.  She is only one of them ....... there are so many more just like her.

I love JK Galbraith, not least because he was a fellow Canuck, but mostly because -- even then -- he recognized the growing selfishness of the GOP.

Been reading about the open-carry law in Texas and how several 'activists' are fighting with a couple of restaurant chains which do not want folks carrying weapons into their places of business.

I've been to Texas (several years ago) and I'm glad I went when I did, because I just simply wouldn't step foot in the state these days.  I expect tourism rates to fall.  As Jon Stewart asked "How can you tell if a guy with a gun is a "good" guy or a "bad" guy"?  And how does that reconcile with "Stand Your Ground" laws?  How do you know if a guy with a gun entering your place of business is, or is not, intent on doing you harm?

Somehow, I think the NRA and its followers have gone way too far. It's the old "pendulum swing" which will be coming into play sooner rather than later.

    http://www.theguardian.com/world/video/2014/may/31/bowe-bergdahls-father-bob-interview-video

This video is 11 minutes. Think it's well worth listening to the perspective of Bowe Bergdahl's father.  Shows how the young man, 23 when he enlisted was brought up, his values, his lifestyle in very rural Idaho.  Small town, IMHO, he thought he was going to be doing more Peace Corps kind of work than "Army" - and with the desperate recruiting done 6 years ago, I don't expect anyone disabused him of this idea. The Army wanted warm bodies, what in 1967 we used to call "cannon fodder" and there was a draft then, for those who don't know of remember.

There is a place in the video where it goes dark for a few seconds, hang in there, it continues.

For those who don't know, Secretary of State John Kerry served ( only a few months) in Vietnam, when he came home to USA, he protested AGAINST the war in Vietnam, and in his now famous testimony before Congress said :"Who wants to be the last man to die in Vietnam", well paraphrased, but that was the gist of it.

In this vein, if anyone hasn't yet read MLK's Letter from a Birmingham Jail, it's worth reading.  Small book, published a few years ago, but I think his daughter.

    Hi Guys,

Just came in from mowing a couple of fields and washing the car ... just in time too.  A thunderstorm is moving in.  Tank is afraid of the thunder and they're both trying to get under my desk!

Hope everyone is safe from the storm.

Our storm is just getting ready to roll on in here.  Already had one as I got up this morning.  We sound like we are going to have a good week of off and on type weather.  Probably some good humidity.  Dh is going after furnace filters later.  It is early for us to be turning on the air, but it is too hard to deal with the humidity I think.  When the storms finally cease....we may be able to go back to open windows and fans for a bit.

Yes, Mary, Dh is feeling a lot better, though he is having cramps in arms and legs.  He needed an infusion of potassium and magnesium, during his hospital stay so we are trying to get some of those things into him....he has  a follow-up appt. with his Dr. at the satellite V.A. medical office in Mt. Vernon this coming week on Tuesday.  Also, the Dr. I work for will get a copy of his records from the last 30 days and will go over it with us.

    Good to see you again.
