Lump in DCIS???

Hello Ladies

I have to wait another week till I get more information from surgeon.. the more I read over the internet the more I get concerned. My doctor said In Situ.. in simple English he said its inside my milk ducts. But on internet it says no lumps are visible... I had a tiny lump that made me go to the doctor. ( had an head on motor vehicle accident 3+ months ago and had injuries on that side and then this tiny lump appear which seemed like a blood clot or something... mammo, ultrasound and biopsy done...

DCIS does not have lump.. could be more than DCIS??? Anyone had a lump and was DCIS????

The wait is driving me insane.. My doctor on vacation... cant help worrying and having sleepless nights.. have lost 4lbs in last 10 days :(

    Hi kal05. Althought not the usual way DCIS presents (usually microcalcifications) there can also be a lump. It is unusual for sure, but not unheard of so don't buy trouble until you get more information from your doctor. I know waiting is hard. It is the hardest part of this cancer crap but, it is what we all do at times. Hugs and keep us posted.

    I'm wondering if you may have a hematoma from the accident (bruised  fluid/blood filled area that can be hard and feel like a lump) and DCIS was already there beforehand. (did you have a biopsy yet? or is the doctor saying it might be DCIS? praying it is nothing  serious and you get good benign results soon)

    Yes... Biopsy was done 10 days ago and I got the call from my doctor on Friday telling me results not good. "Its In Situ - its in your milk duct"... The tiny lump was not there before my accident.

    All site on internet says - 80% is discovered by mammo...

    Get a copy of your pathology report.  You will be in the dark until you do.

    Hi Kal05,

     

    My DCIS presented as a lump, too!  I was 37 when diagnosed, so the only reason I learned I had DCIS was because of that lump (I wouldn't have had regular mammos for another 3 years due to my age).  I actually had several areas of DCIS, all of which were in lumps that I had felt for years.  These were originally diagnosed as fibrocystic changes because my baseline mammo at 35 was completely clean with no calcifications. 

     I also read that 80% of cases are found by mammo only, but that means that 20% (or 1 in 5) aren't.  So, I guess I had the opposite experience from most in that my DCIS wasn't detected by mammo at all, but presented as a lump.  Go figure...

    Mine was a lump, it was not seen on mammo, was initially felt and then seen as an enlarged duct on ultrasound and then 3 months later, a clogged duct which I guess was even more lump-lke. I think of calcifications as dead cells in clusters or in a loopy line (following a milk duct). In my "lump" there were no calcifications just a clogged/swollen milk duct filled with DCIS!

    Jelson, have you and your doctors decided on the form of treatment for your DCIS?

    My DCIS was grade 3, I did not hesitate to have radiation. I had a lumpectomy then radiation and then tamoxifen. I get a mammogram and an MRI alternating every 6 months. I am in my 5th year and will meet with my MO in June and RO in August, no more tamoxifen and perhaps my MRI regimen will change now.
