Have any younger women had an Oncotype Dx score done? Is it even possible to do on a DCIS sample? Does it have to be done at the time of surgery?

There is no reason to do a regular Oncotype Dx test on pure DCIS because the purpose of the test is to determine whether chemo is beneficial when added to hormonal therapy. Pure DCIS does not require chemo. The company that developed the Oncotype has a new test for DCIS though - linked below. It is a test that helps determine recurrence rates in regard to surgical and hormonal therapy decisions.

http://www.genomichealth.com/ I called today asking about testing dcis related to the thread in the BCO clinical research board on oncotype DX to determine whether a person would benefit from additional years on tamoxifen. I was told no to my question, however, they have for DCIS to help inform surgery/radiation decisions. Since I had them on the phone, what the hell,  I asked whether old tumor samples could be tested and was told yes - the test did not have to be done right a way. Of course it depends on whether the hospital kept your tissue and how it was preserved.

do contact them with your questions.
