Am I a hot mess?

Hi everyone, 

I have been stalking for about a week and thought I would chime in and say THANK YOU for all the tips and support.  I love this website and the discussion boards.  This has been the single source I have used to learn more and I have directed my family members here as well.  

I am 39 and I was diagnosed via biopsy on Thursday the 22nd.  The initial Patho shows IDC grade 2 with two tumors  - one 2 cm and 1 0.5 cm.  I also have DCIS  grade 3 in the region between the two tumors.  In the "clinical data" section it also says ILC, papilloma, fibroadenoma, phyllodes and fibrosis, fat necrosis, and mastitis.  Has anyone else had an initial patho report with all these diagnoses? I know what they are, but I haven't seen anyone talk about having these in addition to the IDC.  

 I am pretty scared, even though I am having a L mastectomy in July.  Still waiting on genetics, etc to decide on bilateral. I meet with the surgeon again next week, but I forgot to ask about this at my first visit yesterday.  In the mean time, I have a bone scan (MRI found an area of decreased signal on the RIGHT side of my breastbone) a meeting with MO, Plastic surgeon and genetics in the next 5 days.  What a whilwind!!

Tumors are ER +, PR + , HER equivocal (FISH being done w/ results due Fri).  

I am in total shock still.  I have no family history of breast cancer, I was only on birth control for 8 years (10 years ago) and I breastfed both of my kiddos for almost 2 years.  I feel so dumb because I am an RN and never really understood the importance of Self exams if there was no history.  I was fooled by the BRCA information - that only 20-30% of women with breast cancer have the gene!  I only had my clinical exam with my yearly OB/GYN appt.

    I am so sorry about your diagnosis.....sending hugs!  The beginning is the hardest part.  Once you know your treatment and surgery plan it gets a little easier somehow.  Get a copy of your pathology report and understand it.....write down your questions for your surgeon before you go.  I also had no real family history and was a fitness professional with a clear mammogram...I found the lump a few months later and the mammogram never caught it.  Don't feel stupid....many of us got here just like you.  I was also fooled by the BRCA gene info.  I wish the "awareness" info would tell women:  only a LOW percentage of woman actually have BRCA that get BC and that mammograms are not thorough!!!  Hang in there!  :)

    (((loris66)))) Sorry hon...this sucks, especially since you are so very young. We are here for support, 24/7. Once your treatment plan is in place, you will feel a little better about all of this. Hugs to you.

    So sorry you find yourself here, but this is a great place to be with a great bunch of gals.  I had a similar DX as yours, IDC with 2 tumors and DCIS, but not all that other stuff.  I have undergone UMX and am now on Tamoxifen - No rads or chemo needed.  Sounds like you already have a treatment plan in place, at least for surgery.  Hope  you have a smooth journey!

    Hugs ... am newbie in here. Half way through chemo.  Thinking of you and chin up and try and smile in the face of adversity.  I am trying too. There will be good and bad days but take it one day at a time and remember to spoil yourself every day with small happy things.

    Hi, Lori.  I had two lumpectomies, one of which was IDC.  The other was ALH, ADH, papilloma, sclerosing adenosis, apocrine metaplasia,
    microcysts, and columnar cell change.  Maybe there was more "stuff" as well.  I couldn't develop any real interest on the part of any of my doctors in any of this gobbledygook, so kind of forgot about at least some of it until just now.  The IDC, however, retained and retains my interest, and that of the medical team, and is therefore the basis of my treatment and followup, so that's the basis of my posts.  Personally, I feel this other stuff raises my chances of another primary sometime in the future, but nobody but me (and, of course, you) seems interested.  I think there is a thread addressing the various benign findings.

    Like you, I had no family history of breast cancer, and, although I actually found the  lump, didn't suspect a thing.  Thank goodness for mammograms!

    Love your attitude!  Best wishes that you sail through chemo with your positive attitude in tow.  So pleased that you treat yourself to something happy every day.  I, too, do that but through music.  Hubby finally bought me my own IPOD, and Iisten daily.  I created a list of "Songs that make me smile".  I listen to some or part of that list every day.
