Why no gloves or gauntlets?

Totally unscientific here, but every time I see someone out in the world with a sleeve they have nothing on their hand. I really wonder if preventative travel sleeves are being given to women by providers with a lack of education. I mean it is not my business, they could have a reason, but it seems odd. Personally my hand would be uncomfortable.

You haven't seen me out - always have glove with sleeve.  Well there are a few times I pull glove off for a mimute or 2 when fishing.  I do 'Catch amd Release'  so it's easier to pull it off (to me) and put it back on 'clean' without 'fish' all over it.

There can be different reasons for compression garments.  They are used for burns to reduce scaring or for some heart issues.  With me, the most common questions, if anything is said/asked it's usually "How did you get burned/How bad did you get burned?"

I have preventative sleeves, a gauntlet, & a glove. I wear the sleeve & gauntlet when flying - but I usually do not put the glove on until I am on the plane. I also wear a sleeve & gauntlet when running - but during the winter I sometimes only wear a long sleeved Under Armour shirt for warmth & compression. And must admit that there are times when planning to wear both for running & I forget my gauntlet because I am trying not to get food, drink, toothpaste, soap, etc. on it before heading out the door for a run. It's the LAST thing I put on - which is why I forget it.

I also agree that people wear compression for other reasons - even your average athlete - so they do not need the glove or gauntlet.

Cookie, what's frustrating for me is to see women at my cancer center wearing only a sleeve, no hand protection. It's a pretty safe bet they're dealing with LE rather than burns or athletic apparel. I talk to them when I see them in the waiting area, and they've always been very open to learning about their need for hand protection. I'm hoping to find an opportunity to talk to the lead therapist at my center and see what can be done about educating her, too. (Why on earth should this be necessary?!!)

    sigh!

Binney, Both the recent women I saw had BC. We chatted briefly since I had one on as well.

I am not including NBA players or fans here, :) or the waitress I met with burns. Or the gazillions people who got handed cooling sleeves at City Streets a few years ago.

One was at the airport, one was in a touristy part of a NYC.

I just have the feeling they were given the sleeve for travel with no hand protection.

Cookiegal- I was given a sleeve but no gauntlet or glove. I was concerned during rads as I had some heaviness in my arm which has gone away. I will be flying for the first time since surgery at the end of July, so I should request a glove and gauntlet?

Lakegirl, Most definately otherwise fluid could get pushed to the fingers and hand. At least a gauntlet. If you want to order on line. Brightlifedirect is our fav because returning is so easy and they are very accomodating.

I was referred to a LE "specialist" and when I inquired why no glove or gauntlet, (because I had read that the sleeve is pretty much useless without it), I was told that it wasn't medically necessary since I didn't need to wear the sleeve unless I was golfing, or flying.    And they mentioned what a low LE risk I had, so not necessary.  Hard to believe anything these days.  I have two sleeves and I do wear them when instructed, but each time I put them on, I wonder if I am not doing more harm than good.

Most of my LE is truncal, with some minimal upper arm involvement.  I wear the gauntlet when I'm flying as a preventive, but just the sleeve for everyday use. And the truncal compression stuff,, that I'm still trying to work out,,,

The therapist thought I should wear the sleeve more as a preventive so that the arm doesn't get worse.

Check out stepup-speakout.org on wearing hand protection when flying. Some expert girls made the website and it is great for explanations and answers.

Isn't it frustrating when were are given mixed treatment plans.Drives me nuts trying to sort out the garbolla.
