How to get a prosthesis without insurance??

Options

Hello ladies,

I'm in need of some advice, direction, resources, etc.! I have needed a new prosthesis since the beginning of the year but I'm underemployed and uninsured. Since gaining weight after treatment, my prosthesis (single mastectomy) no longer fits my body. I am so sick of walking around lopsided. Many of the assistance organizations I am aware of only provide help to women who are currently in treatment. I'm at the point where I'm willing to trade mine or accept someone's old boob! If any of you ladies received help from somewhere or can help me, please please please let me know! Thanks.

The prosthesis that I currently wear is Amoena 442 Essential Light 2S in size 5. I'm assuming that I'd need the next 1 or 2 size up.

SheriCola, there was a thread last year discussing where members could donate prosthetics and bras, with several suggestions of resources that provide donated items:

    Hope this helps!

Do you have a local breast cancer support group?  They might be able to help also.

    Best of luck to you

If there is a ACS Hope Lodge near you some of them operate a "gift closet" and have prosthesis available. I lost one expander for seven months during chemo but my insurance did not cover a prosthetic because I was deemed a reconstruction patient. Since I still needed to even out my chest I went to the Hope Lodge and they were able to find me a prosthetic. I did have to fill out some paperwork, but the silicone form was free of charge, I just had to supply my physician's office contact info.

There are also some organizations that will give you a grant - I believe Komen does do some.
