Colonoscopy tomorrow--IV in foot?

Hi, everyone--

I have a colonoscopy scheduled tomorrow and will have my LE arm wrapped to be sure no one sticks it/uses blood pressure cuff on it. My OT said she thinks it's best not to use the other arm either, since I did have nodes removed on that side, so that "should" be where I have LE, which leaves me with having the IV in my foot. Can anyone tell me what their experience has been like with that? Surgery I was fine with, but the idea of this is really unnerving me.

Thanks!
Paula

My IV was in my foot for my BMX. It was no big deal, no worse than having it any other place.

Yup. I did the colonscope last spring and I had the doc put the vein in the foot. They were really accommodating which was a real change. It is always a bit uncomfy in the foot especially if they have to hunt for a vein but otherwise it is totally doable. You could ask them for hot compress on the area before the needle and to rub up the vein good. I usually require this due to runaway veins. They see the needle and hide.

Paula, best wishes tomorrow. It's good to see that your team (along with Lisa's and hugz4u's) are aware and responsive to needs around IVs!

Thanks! I keep telling myself it's going to be temporary, but I'm not listening very well. LOL. I called my brother, a nurse, and asked where they would try if the feet didn't work for some reason, and thought he said "eye" and then "chin"--I was very relieved to realize he actually said "shin"--apparently I need to check my hearing too!
