How vain are you?

Selena, I know what you mean. My neck skin is like that too. That's another reason why I want my whole neck skin surface lifted and tightened. I also have two little jowls the doctor is going to pull up. Thank you for the complement! In that picture I was wearing a sweater and coat so my neck didn't show. But it has actually gotten worse since then. Ugh, can't wait until July 31st.
-
What picture??? I have a double chin....sigh. But, my face skin is in good condition and I look younger which I attribute to the excess weight I carry. I just turned 56
Also on Metformin now and glad of that, too!
-
Yorkie! I am so interested to hear about this. I know anything remotely surgical is a difficult decision, but by the sound of this, it will make such a difference, it has to be worth it! Having great skin on your face and having the neck area let you down must be frustrating.
I wish you all the very best and can't wait to hear how it goes. M
-
Ariom, I think what I'll do is have DH take a picture of me the day before surgery. Then when I'm all healed up and not swollen anymore, I'll take another picture then post both (before and after).
Yeah, it is frustrating, but I'll be 66 in October, so the aging issue is something I now have to deal with big time. Being an admitted vain person, I'm just doing what comes "naturally!"
-
I hear you Yorkie! I am coming up to 61 and although I have always been an admitted "vain" one too and I have probably spent enough over the years, to have acquired another house! I believe if you feel good, you'll look good and if you have an area that really pisses you off, do what you can to fix that, you'll feel great!
I know the worry from the big move we made right before moving here, with the angst of 4 months of renovations and then my call back, Dx, surgery and the wait for final pathology has definitely aged me, no question. I am open to having work done, if I get to the point where I can't deal with it any more.
I think the before and after shots is a wonderful idea!
-
I though my "old lady" neck was partly from being cachetic when I was so sick, but it didn't go away, so I guess the neck goes when the estrogen does.
-
Ariom, I look great at 60, but no more. It. Is. Time.
Melissa, the Aromasin probably does have something to do with this. However, at my age, changes definitely happen. I look better than a lot of my friends of similar vintage.
-
Btw, Ariom, you also look totally awesome at 60! I think we "old" ladies need to set a new standard for what's hot, lol!
-
I'm only 52.
-
Melissa, that's got to be tough at your age.
-
It's just annoying...I have so many things I need to fix or fix up on the house after only having worked part time for several years (yay new full time job!) that I'm all focused on that for now:)
-
I will be 58 in a few months and have noticed some crepey appearance of the skin on my neck. Don't know if anyone else notices yet. I have no idea of what I might do down the road, but I will never say never. The only thing that puts me off about getting work done is possibly looking ridiculous like some movie stars. I guess I just want to look the best I can for whatever my age. Right now,I'm feeling good about my appearance. I confess to getting a little thrill when people are surprised that I'm a grandmother and have a 30 year old dd.
-
I always said I couldn't lose weight, or the wrinkles in my face would suddenly show my age! I claimed it was the fat that was smoothing out the wrinkles!
But two years ago I lost 60 pounds, and luckily, there were only some teensy little crinkles in my cheeks where there hadn't been any before. I honestly did look ten years younger.
And then I started Arimidex.....
After a year on that, and now 7 months on Femara, I feel like whatever youthful look I attained by losing weight was swept away by a tsunami of wrinkled, tired, dry, raggedly old looking skin. I look in the mirror and just roll my eyeballs.
Yorkiemom - you go, Girlfriend! I am looking forward to pics!!!
-
I am getting the crepey skin in the crook of my elbow, which is sort of weird. Either way, it is definitely a side effect of estrogen-deprivation.
As far as plastic surgery, I am toying with getting a my stomach lifted. It is flat, so I do not need a full tuck, but the skin is horrible from having had a large baby, just awful.
-
The doctor I'm using strives for a natural look. Also, I'm not having the upper part of my face pulled back. I do have a little droop in one eye, though. I'm going to ask him if there something he can do about that while he's lifting the neck!
-
I'm 53. I have a pear-shaped figure (the bain of my existence since I always wanted to be built like a racehorse - think the Princess of Wales) and, when I get too thin (like during chemo), the weight drops off my face and neck, leaving me still a pear-shape, albeit smaller all over, but looking tired and gaunt. And, with menopause, the crepey neck skin thang started to be obvious. I don't mind laugh lines, but I'm finding the "wattle" (as my grandmother called it) is tending to bother me.
-
Selena, something one of the surgeons I met with said really resonated. She said none of us want surgery (YUK), and it is a back and forth in our minds between our dislike of something on the body and the fear of surgery and recovery. For some, like me, the unhappiness with our faces tips the balance and we go for it.
I do think the Aromasin must have something to do with my sudden neck deterioration, but I AM 65. I seriously can't stand looking at my neck any more! It's the reason I am for the first time in my life looking my age. When I was 59 and still working, all my colleagues thought I was in my mid 40's.
-
YorkieMom, Your surgeon is wise about the balance between your unhappiness with the changes you see and the fear of surgery. Something has to tip that balance. I'm pretty sure I'm going to get there..just too close to finishing BC treatment for me and I want to be fit, so that is what I am focusing on right now. (And growing hair. LOL)
I think I look OK for my age. I still have an hourglass figure, tall and leggy. My neck issue has to do with my weak chin....always had a weak chin and never fixed it. Fast forward 30 years and it has sadly exaggerated my "wattle".
Can't wait to see your before/after pictures!!! I say hats off to all of us who fight the aging process in whatever way we can.
Selena, where the heck are you hiding your "wattle"??? You are lovely, with a nice sassy smile that anyone would notice first and foremost.

-
MsP, absolutely you need to get through bc treatment first! I am 2 1/2 years out, so definitely ready. We are going to put off getting a new doggie for a month though. : (
Selena, I'm with MsP. What wattle?????? You are gorgeous girl!
-
Aw, thanks. But it's there. And I see it. And I hate it.
-
My cousin just posted this on facebook. Her mom, my aunt, is on the far left. My mom is right next to her. The photo was taken during their WWII service. So young and beautiful!
-
Gorgeous!
-
YorkieMom, you got some great genes! Very cool picture.
MsP
-
Thank you MsP! She must have been about 21 in that picture, and my aunt about 23. She married my dad after the war. They were both on the G.I. bill and met in a university accounting class. She must have been about 24 at that point. They were married 8 months later, and the following year I arrived.

What an awesome picture, yorkiemom!!!!

I don`t think ONE (or two) surgeries would make us look like a movie star who over did it. I think it would just make us look rested and fresh. I always knew I would want to get my eyes lifted (VERY deep set eyes) and my breasts perked up. Got the breasts done free both times, first a reduction and then the masts. As for my eyes, it would only be free if they affected my vision and I am a long way from that. I had a girlfriend get a face lift about 8 years ago and she just looks fresh. She needed it badly as she had NO fat in her system and looked like a prune! I was worried about losing too much weight as well, but feel a bit better from your comment Blessings, thanks for that.
Momine I have loose skin and inch-wide stretch marks from my kids!! My sister had a tummy tuck and then remarried and had two more kids!!! I look better with a bit of weight on my belly as it fills out the loose sac of skin some-what. When I lose too much weight it looks like a balloon with no air in it. So you don`t really need a tuck, do you? Wouldn`t it be more of just removing excess skin? That wouldn`t be too invasive....
Yorkie, you`ve really wrapped your head around your needs and that seems very healthy! I`m glad the surgeon is supporting your decision. You seem to be doing it for all the right reasons. The older we get the harder it is to recover, so now or never! Can`t wait to see the before and after pics, too!!! My girlfriends wrinkles were all ironed out with her lift. For me it`s the neck WATTLE (Selena, i agree, you don`t seem to have a wattle, maybe you see a pudgy area, but we don`t) and the fact that my upper lids are starting to sag. Funny, I don`t feel the need for breasts, but do feel the need to keep myself groomed. We pick our battles.
-
Barbe, yes, I mainly need the skin removed. There should be no need to cut into the muscle or anything like that. There is no way I can gain enough weight to fill out all that ugly skin. Even when I was 25 pounds heavier, it was a serious problem.
-
You certainly would not want to gain weight to fix the problem!! Have you looked into the procedure at all, Momine? I`d love to lose enough weight to get it done.
-
Thank you Blessings!
-
Barbe, not yet, other than google research. But I do have the name of a good plastics guy, after asking around.
