Mary - Dive-bombed by mockingbird -- I'm sure it was surprising. Finished regular Rads just got 4 boosts left -- oh so ready to be done. Been feeling a bit stronger overall so that's good but I'm giving in to the exhaustion too and resting/napping when needed. Went further on the bike -- 11 miles on Sunday. Had a nice long (for me) run yesterday after work - my 4.5 miles and left great. Did some yoga to relax afterwards and slept great. Going swimming later. Watching my skin turn bright red and dealing with tightness but stretching and working it anyways.
-
Wow Claire, I can't wait to see the pictures!
You are nearing the finish line, mz mes!
Core & pilates today.....the exercise room they are held in is on the second floor....nobody came in early and opened the windows or turned on the fans.....so it was stifling hot....bluck!!!
-
mz_mes, 4.5 is long and all that you have been doing during active treatment - including being almost done is excellent! Claire, nice weekend cycling and yes to seeing the photos. WarriorWoman, sorry to read of the infection and good to read exercise wise it's all returning. Our gym was stuffy too Ruth.
Body balance and yoga this am. Going for a run in a bit.
-
Hit the gym today for a variety of exercise including 30 minutes on the Elliptical plus some toning exercises and weights. Rounded it all out with 15 minutes of Yoga to wind down.
-
50 minute walk - about 3.5 miles
-
Went to the gym, warmed up on the elliptical, then did weights and spent some time on the stationary bike while reading.
-

This is not a very flattering photo of me but I wanted to show you what I look like after a class with the wonderful Eduardo, you can always tell how hard I work in a class by the color of my face, and that is my young Vietnamese friend behind us.
Claire your weekend sounds absolutely fabulous, looking forward to seeing the photos.
Tonight did Body Jam class.

Hi everyone,
Back from my run and before dinner....... Posting pix so I still have some street cred.
First of all, from the ride itself. Just gorgeous, with bald eagles soaring on the air currents below.

Now, the TENT, so I can show off where I got to spend the night. Why the wine is wonderful. This is on Naches Heights which has its own AVA designation. It differs from the rest of the region as was NOT affected by the Missoula floods a few millenia ago.

Now, the view from the vineyard. A truly magical place. - Claire

-
Amazing pictures, Claire. mz_mes, you're in the home stretch! NatsFan, thanks for the story about the 1 month AI breaks. I'll keep that in mind when I think I can't stand my creaky achy hot flashy body another day.
Barely exercised today, and flying tomorrow. May get in some walking laps in the terminal. That's a benefit of traveling with only a backpack (or checking your bags). I'm going to a hoop event in NC. I'm really not feeling up to par physically but I've prepaid for the event and airfare, so going anyway. It looks like a lovely place, so I'll surely enjoy some east coast nature even if my hooping is a bust.
-
Ann, have I ever shared the white raisins & gin recipe for the aches while you're been on the thread?
My sister (and Wonderland) live in NC. It is beautiful. What part of the state will you be in?
-
Cheryl - I do that beet red thing too when I've had a good workout. Just shows we've been working hard! Claire - beautiful pictures! Ann - have fun at the hooping event. Hope you don't get too much hot sticky East Coast weather.
Pilates DVD this morning.
-
Walked the dogs with DH before work. That'll probably be it for the day, but tomorrow is a running day.
-
ruth.....white raisins and gin???? hmmm......do tell!!!!!
Claire....your "street cred" will never fade.....wonderful pics....but your descriptions are always the best of all. So love to read your posts.
I had the time wrong for my meeting last night, so sent a last minute "sorry, won't be there" email and went for a lovely 5km walk instead. Shhhh.....don't tell, but I enjoyed the walk soooo much more than I would have enjoyed the meeting! Planning on going for a hike on Friday, it's been so long since I've been on a trail, but hmmm, LOTS of bear sightings, so you'll likely hear us chatting and making noise all the way in NC!
Today should be yoga, golf lesson, run and more yoga. I'm splitting it into two sessions, instead of a full hour at once, but can already tell my flexibility is returning to pre-slug level!

Thanks Mary - I did take a one month break on anastrazole earlier this year - I was having light headedness spells and immediately blamed my new medication! Felt great off it, then the dizzy spells came back, so it was not the drug. My main side effects are a general achiness in the joints, and very restless sleep. MO said he'd give me a prescription for something to help me sleep, but I declined, I'm not much of a pill taker. And my achiness could just be my aging joints, but I must say it has increased since starting anastrazole. My MO said everything comes with a price (side effect), so we could try a different drug or stick it out a while and see if my achiness and sleep problems subside a bit. So that's what I'm going to do, as the aches are not preventing me from living my life to the fullest, and we will see if the sleep issue improves. Sometimes I wonder if my sleep issues come from my very loving cat!
So I didn't get my steps in yesterday with my appt. I couldn't walk at lunch. Did do a little retail therapy on the way home. When I got home, I announced to my husband I was going around the block a few times, and he lovingly pointed out I could get my steps in while pushing the lawn mower in the backyard. So that's what I did
But even with that I only got to about 7500 for the day. And today I really must try for that pedicure, memorial day weekend awaits! -
Finally managed to get a walk in yesterday. It was the first day I was able to wear a shoe on my bad foot. Felt great. Got infused later in the afternoon though, so not sure when I'll be back at the exercising. I got some new meds to help combat SEs so with any luck at all, maybe by Saturday. Have been enjoying all your posts and pictures!
-
Longisland, shoe on - good and meds for SE's, hope Saturday works for you. Cheryl, I can look really red when air con is on the blink and you have a friendly bunch at your gym. Nice photos Claire and Ann, you are a dedicated hooper and wishing you a terrific workshop.
Power step and body balance at the gym this am.
Edited to add: ms_mez, wonderful new photo!
-
I love the photos Clarie. Sorry to hear about the SEs Pat01 -- it stinks but you move anyway and mowed! That's great and number of steps doesn't really reflect the effort involved with mowing. Hoping for the best for you Longisland. Nihahi the walk sounds much nicer than the meeting to me too. LB you inspire me -- two classes wow. Had onco appt, got script to start anastrozole but will wait a few weeks after rads to rebound. Had 30 of 33 rads today and then bone density test. With 45 minutes between appointments, I put on my music and walked around town. Love smelling the lily of the valley and the lilacs while walking!
-
Yes, love the picture Mz!
WWW walked at the golf course this morning & celebrated the birthday of one of the gals. I am taking a break from planting the 3 flats of flowers I bought from a youth group. It is supposed to stay okay temperature-wise & maybe rain on the weekend. So need to get them in the ground before then. I will go to Zumba tonight.
Tomorrow I am going to sub for a teacher friend whose daughter is graduating & kind of just ran out of time. It's the last day of school, so YIKES, it is basically going to be "HOLD DOWN THE FORT!"......and it's 8th grade, so they are crazy already!
I will look for my 'recipe' & post it.

-
This is the 'recipe' my aunt's doctor shared with her on a natural way to counteract the aches & pains that go along with arthritis. Both she & my mom used it successfully for years. I am thinking that it sure would be worth trying for the similar achiness that can go along with Als......if you are having problems, it sure would be worth a try!
To prepare gin-soaked raisin, first empty one box of dried white raisin in a shallow container. Only white or golden raisin should be used for this recipe. Then pour enough gin into the container to cover the raisin.
Cover the container and keep it covered for 7 – 10 days to allow the raisin to steep in the gin.
Allow all the gin to evaporate to leave gin-soaked raisins in the container. These raisins keep well when refrigerated. The popular advice is to take nine of these "drunken raisins" every day. Most users report improvements in arthritis symptoms between 1 – 8 weeks of using this remedy.
Why it works:
1. Golden raisins- the ONLY type of raisins worthy of the recipe- require sulfur or sulfides in their processing to make them golden. Sulfur is an active ingredient in 2 effective natural arthritis supplenents: glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate. Golden raisins come from sultana grapes and are cultivated under the name Thompson seedless grapes in the United States.
2. Sultana grapes contain proanthocyanidins which are thought to help fight infections and reduce inflammation. Grapes also contain resveratrol, a powerful anti-oxidant that is being studied for many of it's disease fighting properties.
3. Gin is flavored with juniper berries and juniper berries contain Terpinen. Terpinen has anti inflammatory properties. The essential oil that is in juniper berries contains more than 100 compounds including myrcene (an anti oxidant), catechins (anti-oxidant), and flavanoids (anti oxidant). Test tube studies have shown that juniper berries can inhibit prostaglandin synthesis. Prostaglandins help mediate an inflammatory response and increase the sensitivity of nerve endings to pain. By inhibiting their production, a reduction in pain can occur.
-
Good re-visit of the 'drunken raisins' treatment. It's been a while since that's been discussed and I know I intended to try it but never got around to it and would have searched for the recipe too.
-
wowzer Ruth....that sky in the background sure looks ominous!
Got everything done that was on the plan today except one more round of yoga. Just finished my run for the day, so it'll be good to stretch everything out.
I am soooooo going to go find some raisins to soak in gin......Thanks for the recipe! Hope you don't mind if I share it on another thread or two?
-
Sure, that is why I posted it!
Good Grief....I planted flowers all afternoon, went to Zumba, and then finished them up. I will enjoy their beauty this summer, but at the moment am muttering, "Why the hell did I buy that many flowers?" I need some gin without the raisins

-
A nice evening after a hot day. Walked 30 minutes and did some upper body weights.
-
Add me to the red face club. LOL... Great pictures Claire.
3 mile run after work today
-
hi all, great pics!
Walked 90 mins at sunset, gorgeous evening. Logged 5.5 mi.
House needs work so Paint & Sculpt on tap for the weekend. ♥
-
Not much exercise today as was beat, all sorts of work problems and then the DENTIST. So just 2 miles of walking.
Off for an early night so I am fresh as a daisy? in the AM.
I returned the tent on the way back from the dentist and got the amazing Pinot Grigio. Was just splendid with Chicken Francese and asparagus. I got some mushrooms and made a pasta, peas and mushrooms dish to go with. Amazing.
A grown woman can cry with things such as a spotty database which will need serious work, and then an online event registration system that just stopped working. Fixed the second, and still noodling the first. Learning is that a smaller but clean database is infinitely preferable to larger with big gaps in information. But I will get to the bottom of this.
(The wine was welcome....I wonder why?) Great snoozing everyone. Off to do a bit of it myself. - Claire
-
So tired, this morning did Sh'bam then tonight did Body Pump and Body Combat then went out with my Vietnamese friends for dinner now I'm going to crash into bed.
-
Oh Ruth, I am so going to try your drunken raisins! I hope they do help with achiness from AI. And sometimes I think my achiness might be arthritis too, especially when I feel it deep in the hip joint. So I will be killing two birds with one stone.
Only got 6500 steps in yesterday, finally got my pedicure so no walk at lunch, then trip to vet after work. Came home from that to a lovely dinner and bottle of white wine on our deck, so no walk around the block to get my steps in. Stayed up far too late to watch the dvr'd survivor finale, so I am dragging today!

-
Ran 3.7 miles with some walk breaks mixed in.
