Sas, I didn't know about the thyroid cancer! Oh you poor girl! as if you haven't had enough to deal with.
I am becoming aware that it is not uncommon for women who have had BC to, at some stage after, also develop a thyroid problem and or possibly thyroid cancer. I have no idea why but it sure would be interesting to find out.
I'm so glad you are going back to where you had 'the bean' sorted out as I know you were very comfortable with the treatment that you received there.
Thanks girls, yes I am really looking forward to being able to walk long distances and shop without having to think twice about how far or for how long I need to be on my legs..........it's just that I do know just what I'm in for to get all the good stuff that I'm a little on edge........lol.......I know it will all be okay but as usual, DH has no idea and no empathy. You'd think that after almost 45 years I would know how he is (he has Asperges) and not let it get to me but sometimes I would just like him to put his arms around me without me telling him.....sigh......onward and upward and these feeling will also pass and I'll be just fine.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

CT scan tomorrow, trying to stay calm. I have a day to wait before I see the doctor I honestly cannot say that I feel anything different, but always fear the worst. Please wish me luck. Wilsie
-
Wilsie keeping my fingers crossed that you get a really good scan result.......deep breath hon, the good thing is you don't have to wait too long before seeing your doc.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

It never gets easier, does it? Thanks, I will update you Wednesday. I used to be such an optimist! Wilsie
-
Thanks Chrissy, it's been very weird. I wish I had the idea of going to Moffitt before this. It will be simpler now b/c DS bought a house and Tampa. Moffitt's in Tampa. He will gladly give his bed up for his MOM. LOL Six months from now a temporary room mate will move out and I'll have my own roomON thyroid---I'm convinced they haven't got a clue of what real normal is for the thyroid.
Hi (waving) Wilsie, we haven't met. Good luck on that scan. If people had a clue what it was like to be waiting on labs and imaging Sheesh
-
hi, Sas, I have had thyroid issues since I was 10. you will be messed up if thyroid dose isn't right.
I lived in Jacksonville, Fl and Panama City, too. Thanks for the welcome, I like this group. Wilsie
-
I`ve had thyroid biopsies since 20 years ago, then half my thyroid out due to lesions and then finally the rest of it out last year when I was more concerned about the huge number of nodules growing up my neck and twisting around my carotid artery!! They ignored all that to treat the thyroid so I guess the rest is just nothing... HUGS to you SAS - and NO! you didn`t mention your new cancer!!!
Chrissy, yes you know the devil you`re about to dance with...but better the devil you know.....
Wilsie, prayers for a clear scan.
God Bless us all!
-
Sas I'm glad that your DS will be able to help out with your accommodation when you go Tampa it will be so much easier for you.
My thyroid jumps around every time I have it tested........one time it high the next its low but never high or low enough to have to do meds but obviously not good enough to say tis all fine........I have a tendency not to worry about it anymore just have it checked every six months to keep an eye on it.
Take care you.
Love n hugs. Chrissy

Dear Lostboob,
Please don't think you will ruin your life with Arimidex. Many people have few to no side effects and gain the reduced risk of recurrance. I am one of the people who reacted very poorly to any of the AI's, I tried several and now use Tamoxofen with few side effects, a little hair loss mostly. The benefits of the AI's is real, please don't let the posts about the side effects scare you off. You can work it through with your oncologists. Hugs and good wishes to you.

Lostboob, I'm one of the ones with no SEs from Arimidex. I've been on it for 2 years now with only a few warm flushes. Do ask the doctor to check your thyroid. The dryness, flakiness and fatigue can all be symptoms of low thyroid.
Wilsie, In your pocket with fingers crossed for your scan. Best wishes.
-
Always sumpin. The test that is a key to so many thyroid issues is Thyroglubulin(Tg)- measurement and autoantibodies. It dx's so much. In Jan., I asked the doc to do a T3,FreeT4, and autoantibodies. That's when I learned about Tg.Chrissy TSH that jumps around can indicate Hashimoto's there's 4 types
Barbe, Lordy how do we all survive our docs. I can't believe it. they let something climb up your neck, and biopsies for 20 years. Hmm maybe I didn't like how things occurred, but it didn't take that long. HOWEVER, I did have a bx last July. Pathologist Doc missed cancer and hashimoto's (lymphocytic thyroiditis). At the removal he missed it again, he did send it for a second opinion. QUEST labs used 3 stains and 3 genetic /tumor marker tests. Barbe are you regulated yet ? Do you feel like the amount your taking is right?
-
I know that my fatigue and weight gain, etc, were/are not caused by thyroid problems. My PC dr. diagnosed low thyroid function about 10 years ago and I take synthroid. She keeps a close eye on my labs.
Lostboob, like Wren I tolerate arimidex without the severe joint pain and debilitating SEs that cause some women to discontinue taking it. My bc dr. is a real believer in the benefits of the AIs. Don't let anything I say influence you in your decisions of how best to avoid recurrence.
SAS, wishing you the best results with dealing with your thyroid cancer. My bc dr. was gentle but blunt in telling me that my chances of getting other cancers are greater than the chances of women without bc. She said drs. don't know why this is true but the statistics are there.
Wilsie, hoping for good news from you on your scan. I always get nervous when I go for my annual checkup with my BC dr's nurse practitioner. She does an ultrasound of my chest and underarms. I guess when we've experienced bad news of this kind once, the nerves are always there. My checkup is coming up soon.
Chrissy, reassuring hugs for you. It's only normal not to look forward to surgery and PT, however needed.
Off to WW this morning. Will not weigh in since I did my May weigh-in last Mon. Have not had a good week with my eating plan and hope to do better this week.
A good Monday to all.
-
My blood work was checked pretty good for the first couple of months and I am stabilized on Thyroxin, but maybe I need another check...hmmmm. Good point!
-
My DIL had to keep arguing with her doctors that she needed more during pregnancy. Sheesh! You would think they would be worried about low thyroid for the baby.
-
scans done, no issues with IV, anyway. When I had last MRI it took them 5 tries, thought I was going to have to walk out of there .
Now waiting till Wednesday. I am exhausted
Wilsie

hello all, I'm in CO with my DD going through all her pre op stuff before her hip surgery tomorrow. She's about to have a melt down. We're hungry and have been waiting around for 4 hours. I brought snacks, but obviously not enough. The reality is setting in for her now, like you Chrissy, she has been thru this already.
I have now lost 30 lbs. As my doc says that is a good sized turkey. I will try my best to stick to the plan while out here. Try not to emotional eat. Lo
-
Sorry, I know how frustrating the waiting is. Being hungry does not help, either. I hope they have taken you back now. Good luck, I'll be thinking of you. Wilsie
-
Wren you saw all the study I went through passing through Insomnia thread. Have your DD google pregnancy induced changes in thyroid. There is a Hyperthyroid situation brought on by pregnancy. I don't remember a hypothyroid situation being brought on by pregnancy. A pre-existing Hypothyroid prego mother can be disasterous for the baby. But LOL I was drowning in reading.
-
Mac Best for your DD sx. You've lost 30 #'s . I suppose it's in the past pages, but a quick description puleese. gained 50#'s with this stupid thyroid thing.Wilsie good on the scan and the IV
YAY.
I have an allergy to polyurethane IV catheters. Can only use Teflon. Pu catheters create a crater that doesn't heal for months. Teflon 24 hours later can't be seen.
-
it is very beautiful here.
We made it out of the hospital after 7 hours and 1 melt down. The surgery sounds more complicated than we first thought, but will be worth it if he can reconstruct her hip. Tomorrow is the big day, she'll spend overnight in the hospital and then start PT on wednesday.
sas, I have been on a meal replacement plan since Dec. I have shakes and bars and one meal a day. It is medically supervised by my PCP's office. My inflammation has gone way down as have my cholesterol levels. I am almost at my goal weight.
-
Mac Glad things straightened out have a good sleep. Where in CO. Chevy's there and so is StaceyLee.I'll get more info on the diet when you get back.
Barbie, as your (Levo?)throxine dose stabilized did you see a change in weight . I gained about 15 on the thyroid med withdrawal before the RAI131 PILLThat was about 3 weeks. Starting to loose, I think . Never fast enough. Tomorrow doc visit with decent scales
Illusion or delusion, tomorrow will tell
-
Nancy I can relate with your DD.......lol.......knowing what's coming is the hardest part of these sorts of surgery. Glad you finally got out with a bit more understanding of what will happen.
That photo is so lovely! It brings back good memories of my trip and visit to CO. Well done you on that weight loss!! 30 pounds! Wow!!!
Wilsie yay for no probs with the IV for your scan! I can so relate to having to be jabbed numerous times to get a good vein........here's hoping the report is just as good!
Have a good day all!
Love n hugs. Chrissy
-
good luck this morning to you and DD. The rest of the note went to the computer netherworld :
-
I've had to be surgically put under for the IV to go in as they had my surgery backed up so late I was TOO dehydrated!!!! So I get it Wilsie. Glad it worked out.
Mac, I'm blown away by your weight loss!!!! Is it a program we can buy in a store?? Are you hungry? Now that I'm on Metformin I don't get my huge sweat and nausea break-downs I used to get. I can actually get hungry without having to take a Gravol for nausea!!!!
-
Whew it is now 10pm here in CO. They just took DD in for surgery about an hour ago. We were scheduled for 12:30. Poor kid all that waiting and worrying. They'll keep her overnight and then she starts PT tomorrow morning. I'm gonna try to get some sleep before going back.
Wilsie have you heard anything yet?
sas, so good to hear from you! I'm in the Vail area. I'll be here for 2 weeks at least.
Hope everyone else are well!

Hi girls if you are interested in my trip I have posted pics on my thread.
Big hugs to all
-
Mac neither chevy or Staceylee are in that area. Did they really take her that late to the OR. Did I misread that? Lovely that you're able to be with herBARBIE, I lost 9 #'s. No illusion or delusion LOL. Before the PILL, it's a low iodine diet, and at a point NO thyroid medicine. NADA. I gained 10 #'s just in the withdrawal period. OMG, by the time I was to restart med, I was afraid of heart failure. Serious!. Two docs giving directions---not the same. I made an executive decision. Restarted at level that the RO said he'd do, but he was deferring to the endocrinologist.
What I learned from RO. Levothyrxine, synthroid, levoxyl---take a MONTH to get to therapeutic blood level. I didn't know this. My Endo was going to let me go a month without active thyroid med. Cytomel. The executive decision was, I started on the Cytomel (had leftover from the withdrawal). Ro said his routine was Cytomel for a month with the thyroxine, then stop for a week, then do TSH.
Endo called on a Saturday after all the questioning through his medical assistant from Friday. He listened to what I just described above and said that was what should be done--------(*&%^$##. What's cool is he came into the office on a Saturday during his vacation, reviewed notes from m.a., and called me. If he hadn't of called, I was going to fire him. But now he's in my good graces------until.........
-
Lol Sas, you be a good girl now, ya hear? Lol. Can't say I blame you though with all the conflicting information and opinions. We all know that you will do what is best for you as you will research the dickens out of it and then take the best option.........on ya, ya sassy girl you!.......hahahaha!
Nancy glad that your DD is finally in and being done......it's all in the healing from here on in and I wish her the very best to getting back on her feet. Sleep well so you are energised for tomorrow.
A sewing day for me today........I bought some comfy jeans (similar to pyjama jeans) a couple of weeks ago online but they are too long in the rise so I have been altering them as they are stretch, comfy and easy to get on and off and perfect for me to be wearing while recovering from my op. If I get the chance I think I will make a couple of tops that are easy on and off as well but for those I'll have to draft a pattern........I'll see as that might just be a pain in the butt!........lol.
Wilsie keeping my fingers crossed that your scans are all good!
Love n hugs. Chrissy
-
Alyson, can't wait to see you!!! Are the travelling pants the same ones I signed last year? Can I just add this years date to it?
SAS, I have had salt in my diet for 22 years, so no added iodine in the salt most people get. I thought maybe that's why I had thyroid issues, but then recall my first biopsy was about 22 or 23 years ago.... So what is a low iodine diet? Did you gain on Thyroxin? I originally grew ANOTHER lesion on Thyroxin years ago.
Hugs to your DD mac, (and to you!) I don't know if I'd want a surgeon operating on me that late! I asked MY surgeon if he'd had lunch!!! hehehehehhehe
