Scar adhesions anyone?

Hi everyone--

I had a BMX January 29, and despite having started massaging the scars a couple of months ago now have some pretty uncomfortable adhesions in my scars (if I'm saying this wrong, please correct me). Does anyone have any experience with these--is there anything else I can do to unstick them? I'm thinking I'm probably going to have scar revision surgery next summer, but I'm really not happy with how they look or feel at this point.

my physical therapist works on my scars.  She uses a technique called 'soft tissue mobilization,'. It is fabulous and an aggressive technique that really gets to those adhesions.  Myofacial release is a more gentle approach which has been less effective for me.  I could not have done this work myself.

That is good to know--I will ask tomorrow when I go to OT. I am a little chicken about it; they are so firmly stuck that I think it's going to hurt to get them loose, though those areas are pretty numb, now that I think about it. I definitely can't do it.

    Aunt_Paula:

I also had my surgery in February 2014 and I've been using the graston technique on my scar adhesions. It has done wonders on the really stubborn adhesions (I had one on my leg that was 13" by 4"). I found a practitioner at GrastonTechnique.com. It was covered by insurance and my Graston practitioner is a chiropractor. She works on scar adhesions (and boy, do I have alot of them from a failed TUG flap surgery), and it quickly softened the scars AND resolved my lymphedema. I am meeting with my plastic surgeon tomorrow to ask him if we can combine my scar revision surgery on my legs with graston technique post op to ensure I don't get them back again. Supposedly once the scar tissue is broken down it is reabsorbed by the body and does not reform the adhesion. You probably already know that most adhesions that are removed surgically quickly reform, and I've been struggling on how to get rid of all my adhesions without surgery.

One thing I noticed which is amazing, is that I've been doing Graston on my breasts the last three weeks. I am only doing Graston in the areas where there are adhesions. Anyway, the scars when I've been doing Graston have totally faded, and the areas where I didn't do Graston are still red. Weird huh? I'll tell you how it goes tomorrow with the PS.

Thank you! I stumbled across this post in a google search. I found a GT therapist here in Fargo and had my first session yesterday. Even one session softened my breast adhesion and scaring. I wish more people talked about this treatment, including breast and plastic surgeons.

I am not a proponent of chiropractic so I was a little skeptical of my GT therapist also being a chiropractor. However, I guess it ends up being something chiropractors would be interested in since it is a non-surgical, not mainstream treatment. Regardless, if I had not seen this post, I would never have known.
