Hi All,

I'd mastectomy of the left breast in February for ILC. The MRI done showed the right breast clear so didn't opt for bilateral. Now I've a Plastic surgeons appt next week. I'm really confused as to what should be my next step. Should I do a prophylactic mastectomy of the right side as a precaution since I'd ILC and do reconstruction or just do reconstruction of the left side. Has anyone been in my situation? I would love to hear from you all.

I had a mastectomy of my left in Dec and kept my right. I had a LD flap on the left and a reduction/lift on the right.  Just had revision surgery 3 weeks ago.  It's really a personal decision for every woman.  For me, I simply didn't want to give up my "good" breast if I didn't have to.  I'm still glad I have a natural breast.  Other ladies choose to go the bilateral route because they feel that is what works best for them.  I struggled with my decision at first because everyone was trying to tell me what I "should" do.  None of them was in my situation so I decided to do what was best for me.  Here is a link to another thread also discussing bilateral vs unilateral.  Hope this helps!
