Kayb, saw my PCP today about low WBC.  She said that mine is only slightly low but if it gets too low (<2), we will need to try to jump start it with Nupogen/Neulasta and then look further for what might be causing it,  if that doesn't help.  She agreed to let me handle this with my Onc....so all I know is that mine isn't scary low at this point, so I have decided to stop fretting.   Let me know how your check up goes.

Kayb, thanks for the feedback.  I will be chatting with my Onc next month about the low WBC, but it is good to hear that your Onc isn't worried about that.  I hope you get a handle on your migraines.  I have never had them, but I have a friend who is plagued with them.  It is so frustrating for her trying to manage the triggers and deal with the pain.  I like your Onc.  sounds like he really cares about your peace of mind.  Keep thinking about horses...maybe you can add a few cute cowboys in too??   Personally I like firefighters.  LOL

Barbe, as a girl who grew up with a lot of cowboys and, in her much younger & cuter days, waitressed at some high-dollar cutting horse auctions, I heartily concur!

    LOL!  I love that song!

I'm trying to grow out my hair a bit as - this past winter - it really seems to have settled down abit.  Of course, I won't really know until the hot-and-humid weather hits whether- or not it really has, but I'm debating the cut below because I'll be able to play with it and have some fun...  And I, also, just might have to go red again...

LOVE the cut!!! I love my hair short, but I'm carrying too much weight right now and it just makes my head look too small. I have tiny neat ears and that makes my head look even smaller again!!!!

Selena - LOVE the cut and the color!!!!

I must have a hundred pics on my cell phone and iPad that I collected while trying to decide what style I wanted next.

I always had naturally curly hair, and the humidity really did a number on it. I went to Hawaii and in every picture I had a giant Afro. The longer I let it grow, the straighter it got.

I had long hair til I was 50. I loved putting it up in a ponytail or French braid. Then I had a shoulder reconstruction, and couldn't raise my arm. Off went my hair! Unfortunately, it was SO curly and SO short, I looked like I had a 1950's poodle cut.

That grew out, and I tried a classic bob. Well, naturally curly hair means that you have to beat the crap out of it and straighten it every day to look smooth. What fun THAT was!

So I finally decided to go short, and as much as my stylist tried, it always looked like old lady hair. (I still color it medium brown.) Then a few years ago I decided to try to rock the Kris Jenner look (Kim Kardashian's mom) with a new stylist and it looks pretty good, even if I do skip all the troweled-on makeup. It's short - but shorter in the back, and longer in the front, and I can scrunch the back if I want.

    I say GO FOR IT!!!!

    Me in humid weather...

Yes, Ariom, the cut is similar to my chemo wig, which is the one I'm wearing in my avatar.  I really liked that wig... still have it and, sometimes, wear it just for fun...

Blessings... we have similar "hair histories".  When I was approaching 50, I cut off my waist-length (at the time, red) hair to a shoulder-length bob with a shingled/tapered back.  Loved-loved-loved it, but I had enough wave in my hair, I had to flat-iron the snot out of it if there was the slightest bit of humidity in the air.  Then, about 6 months prior to being diagnosed, I had it all clipped off into a choppy (brunette) pixie because of the damage caused by the flat-iron.   This time, if it decides to curl/wave (as long as it's not too much like the above photo; if it is, I'm just going to shear it off again), I'll just let it.  I love the undamaged texture of my post-chemo hair (virgin hair!) and would like to maintain it.

Selena...I feel the same way. "love the undamaged texture of my post-chemo hair (virgin hair!) and would like to maintain it."

I never liked my pre-cancer hair texture and style/color and constantly "stylist hopped"  looking for the holy grail.  When I faced chemo and hair loss, I wasn't that upset about losing my lousy hair.   The initial texture of my post chemo hair was really weird,  and my color was "skunk-like"  But after several trims and shape ups, I am loving my post chemo hair!   My hair color is dark blond with a little red and gray mixed in and a couple of interesting white spots that get me noticed.   I have a pixie cut that I love....a little longer than Ellen DeGeneres who I think rocks the preppy look better than just about anyone.

Barbe....I always thought my head was too small and my ears too big for a short cut, but I was wrong.  (At least that's what I am told.)  LOL

It definitely takes guts to get a pixie.....or chemo!

Selena, I would never have picked your Avatar pic as a wig! That's a really good looking one, and I can understand why you would still wear it.

Like you MsPharoah, I have a tiny head, even have to buy kids sizes in hats and when I used to be into going to the Races, I had to have foam put into the smallest hat I could find to keep it in place.

Barbe, I understand how you feel that way about the short hairstyles, but I haven't found they accentuate  my body size, which doesn't reflect my head size at all! LOL

Okay then, it must be my VERY broad shoulders that make my head look too small! I actually wear a larger hat size than my DH?!?! But my shoulders are so broad that when I wore a police dress uniform (the jacket) I had to get one custom made as it is so fitted and my shoulders just didn't fit any of the ready made jackets (they are buttoned up and have to fit exactly). My own blazers I normally have to buy a size or two larger than I need so my shoulders don't pull. Here is a shot of DH and I on my birthday 3 years ago this month. I had him cut my hair and it was just about an inch when we first did it. I am totally flat in this pic and don't care a whit. Do you get an idea of my shoulders though? And my hair is SO straight!!! I actually have a PERM in it right now!!!!!!! and it's about chin length.

Hi Barbe, I think you look fabulous with the short hair! I know we have to wear what we feel comfortable with, but you do really rock that look! Just saying...

The flat chest thing amazes me, with how it just isn't that noticeable. I find myself looking at chests a lot these days!

I went to a lunch yesterday for the big BC group in my area, which has been meeting for almost 20 years and does a lot of fundraising. They have a large membership. There were so many women there who were completely flat, but it was hard to tell if they had a BMX or were just naturally flat chested. There was so much confidence in that room, I spoke to a couple of them and one had actually had implants removed recently and loves the freedom, another had a tight white tank with Audrey Hepburn 7/8th pants, ballet flats and a black waterfall cardigan, short pixie haircut and she looked amazing! She would have been in her 60'sand not a small woman!

It all comes down to what you feel is right for you and how you feel when you're out there!

Barbe, actually, I think you look great and short hair really becomes you.....and you are very well proportioned.  I think it is so interesting how we focus on the flaws we see in the mirror and oftentimes those "flaws: are all in our minds. As I said to our receptionist the other day who was lamenting about excess pounds....."Shannon, you are a beautiful, put together and confident young lady and you rock your look to perfection!  If you want to lose weight, you will and you will still be beautiful, put together and confident.".  So Barbe.....you are an intelligent, confident woman with the right sized head and shoulders!  Rock it!

    Love, MsP

barbe, I echo that you look nicely proportioned. Also, even with your mention of being flat in the first pic, I still can't make it out. I have become pretty obsessive about checking out women's chests too ariom. Makes me feel like a big perv sometimes, lol. I hope I am discreet and no one notices. It's in out nature to compare I guess. Barbe, do you walk around sizing up everyone's shoulder and ear sizes?

Aw, thanks ladies. I really did need an opinion from someone who doesn't depend on me for hugs....!

I, too, will often find myself amazed by someone's cleavage....or the fit of a sweater or top...sigh. But, I am REALLY comfortable with my flat chest and have no shame.

    Barbe,

Did you say that your husband had cut your hair (first pic)? If so he did a great job. I think your hair looks great short and I would have never noticed that you were flat had you not pointed it out.

Thanks Caryn, I cut the front (I used to be a hairstylist in my youth) and let him cut the back....my Dad used to say that I had more guts than Dick Tracy but I stopped saying that as no one knows any more who Dick was!

Barbe, you look fantastic!  And, yes, if you hadn't mentioned you were rocking-the-flat-look in the photos, I'd have never noticed either.  I love the picture of you with your grandsons.

I am in AWE at how much better most women I know look with SHORT hair, than with longer, even chin length hair.  The shorter hair calls attention to the face, seems to REDUCE the appearance, of , ah, dare we call them jowls? really the short hair seems to OPEN the face, makes it brighter, lighter, more radiant, you see the FACE, the center of the face/smile especially.

I was video-taped today at work doing a presentation. I'm hoping to see it tomorrow to see how I look. At work my hair is fluffier and more "messy" - that's why I wash it on a Sunday and just shake it out each day. I got this perm in mid-JANUARY and it's the best perm I've ever had!!! By now, I'm normally just frizz, so I'm reluctant to cut it - but I know I will.... While I was in hairdressing 35 years ago there was a "rule" that women "of a certain age" shouldn't have hair over their collars. Also, to soften their hair colour so it wasn't too stark against their ageing faces. My hair is STILL showing some red low-lights I got last summer but I'm about 50% gray on top with my back and underside my original dark brown. I'm letting the gray creep down from my part, so a short cut should make it look much better. I'll keep y'all posted. (I AM vain!)

Selena, there is an Ontario get-together with Alyson from New Zealand on June 7th. PM me if you are interested in the details.

Spookie, are you trying to read this forum on a cell phone??? ANY pic would be too big for that...ehheehehehe  How can I get real feedback if you only get a pin-head shot???

So ladies, I saw my 2 video presentations today and am still sitting on the fence about my hair....side shots showed my "jowls" which surprised me as I thought those were covered by the longer hair...hmmm. The full-on shots were "cute", but I wonder if my "style" is age-appropriate? Would a much shorter spikier style be better....I'll keep ya posted.
