adoption after breast cancer

Options

Greetings everyone! I am a parent of two, one I gave birth to 19 years ago and a second I adopted as a foster parent 6 years ago before my diagnosis. I am in a partnership and we are talking engagement, and family planning. I am a 5 year survivor and 2 1/2 years NED. My partner really wants to adopt another child with me in the future. Does anyone have any experience with county adoptions , especially in California after having breast cancer? Although I have sufficient resources and am quite healthy, I worry that we will both have difficulties due to my health history.

Thank you!

I, too live in California, and adopted my son after my first diagnosis of  breast cancer.  In fact, the birth mother was 3 months pregnant when I was diagnosed ( I know because she had a sonogram done the same day and time I was being told I had breast cancer, thought my ife was over, but it was just beginning a new chapter!)

I did have to disclose my heath status to her, which she didn't see as a problem (she had neighbors that had 9 year old twins adopted after a diagnosis, and her own mother adopted after having health issues)

I think some private agencies will exclude on the basis of health, but we had no issues at all with the state of California.   I think you should go for it if it is what you want!!!!  (that I what my oncologist told me, and the next thing I know we were adopting! )  I wish you the best, there may be some setbacks but the right child will come your way)

Thank you so much for your response ! I love to hear stories of encouragement. We are planning on going through the foster adopt program which is what I used with my daughter.

I have no experience with this but wanted to let you know that you should go for it. I wish you all the best and I hope you are able to find that special child. Take care!
