Okay, I need to ask about night sweats. I don't know if this has been brought up yet or not, so I'm sorry if it has and I missed it. I have been having terrible night and sometimes days sweats for the last 2 weeks. The night sweats are so bad that I will wake up in the middle of the night to pee and my shirt is wet and my pillow is soaked. It is crazy!! I asked my MO about it and she said she didnt think this was a chemo thing. OKaaaay....so I'm just having this issue for no reason??

I'm 40 years old, dx at 39 and I'm currently on TAC. I just finished number 5 yesterday of 6. Just wondering if anyone else has expeerienced this.

thanks

I was dx at 44 and started with the hot flashes and night sweats around treatment 3. Chemo effects your ovaries putting you into "chemopause". Similar to menopause, but shorter lived. Have your periods stopped? Mine stopped after my first treatment and I have not had one since. My MO said I had a 50/50 chance of it returning- it didn't. You are younger and have a better chance of it coming back.

I'm really surprised your MO said the two are not related! I suppose it could be something else, just telling you my experience. I hope it gets better for you.

    Hi Tangandchris,

This is a very common side effect. We're sure there's lots of other members here who will be chiming in soon!

In the meantime, you  may be interested in checking out the main Breastcancer.org site's page on Hot Flashes, for some really good tips to help manage this side effect during the day and at night too.

    We hope this helps!

    thanks mods :)

You know I'm surprised she said the 2 were not related too. I've read all sorts of info about chemopause..so I know get it.

It is a very common side effect.  Initially I went on Effexor and it helped some.  Five years later I am going through it again severely.  My primary doc gave me the magic word!! Evening Primrose oil capsules.  They worked the very first time and I have used them for 4 days now.  No more SWEATS!  Now I just wish she had a magic word for cancer!!!!  Hmmmm maybe someday!!! :)

jramick- can you get those capsules at any drug store or only health food stores? I still have terrible hot flashes and night sweats and I finished chemo 3.5 years ago!

    Hi Tif

Any store that sells vitamins should have the capsules - maybe even grocery stores.  I got mine at a Walgreens I believe.  I wish could remember the cost to quote you but I don't think they are as expensive as say vitamin d.  I can't believe how quickly it worked for me and that I have not had problems since!

Good luck and let me know how they work for you if you try them!
