Lenn, why can't you go back on the Mylan brand so you don't have all those side effects? <3

Matsgirlie - can't find it anywhere. My local CVS looked everywhere for me. I could maybe have it compounded but I was hoping the side effects would settle down. Sometimes that happens.

Drug manufacturers sometimes have shortages - the claim from Mylan with Tamoxifen is that it is the other ingredients, not the active drug itself, that they are having trouble procuring.  I believe the smaller dose is still available so some are doubling - it is half the normal dose.  One of the issues with generic drugs is that the filler ingredients can be proprietary for the manufacturer as long as the active drug is the same - people have a variety of side effects as a result of those added ingredients.  That is why you should switch manufacturers if you do experience negative side effects, as you may not on a different maker.  The same is true for aromatase inhibitor drugs - there are a variety of makers.  It is a bummer to have to switch and cross your fingers and hope you don't have a rough time with a new one!  There is also the theory that the makers "fake" the shortage to drive demand, then up the price - I have not seen anything definitive that this is the case for Mylan.

SpecialK!!! that is really great information! thank you for sharing. you have so much knowledge. I am thinking my hormonal treatment will be tamoxifen because i am pre-menopausal and ER/PR+ Her2neg. do you know if there is a choice for me in this category or would it have to be tamoxifen? i also see that tamoxifen can cause endometrial cancer! Nice!
