Hi!  I am working on getting back in shape.  While I will most likely never be a runner (knees), I love a good walk.  Been a bit off the music scene and could never remember the name of my fav songs anyway.  Please help me out by sharing what's on your playlist that gets you moving and helps you keep up the pace (okay, maybe with a little dancing during that walk).

To get the ball rolling here are a couple of mine that help get that heart rate up:

  • My Songs Know What You Did In the Dark - Fallout Boy
  • Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (anything)
  • Take A Chance on Me (ABBA)
  • Staying Alive (BeeGees)

Thanks for adding to the list!

    Hi Marty,

I walk, but don't usually listen to music while walking. I am willing to try some in the future......

    Good luck with your "project"

Marty, we must have similiar taste in music.....I have that Fallout Boy song on my playlist too.Headphones

The other songs that get me moving are "Wake Me Up" by Avicii and "Happy" by Pharrell Williams.....and anything by Audioslave or Soundgarden. Well the last two don't really get me moving, but they sure do add to my listening pleasure.

MartyJ love this idea.    I listen while I hike and run but take it off to cross the street...

I like my workout music with a dance beat. Here are some of my favs (a few may have explicit lyrics but you can usually get the clean version)

Don't You Worry Child - Swedish House Mafia (2012)

    Drive By - Train (2012)

The Edge of Glory - Lady GaGa (2011)

Everybody Talks - Neon Trees (2012)

Finally Found You - Enrique Iglesias (2012)

Good Time -Owl City and Carly Rae Jepsen (2012)

    Hey Love - Quadron (2013)

    Move - Little Mix (2013)

    Pumpin Blood - NONONO (2014)

Shiver Shiver - Walk the Moon (remade 2012)

    Stompa - Serena Ryder (2012)

    Stronger - Kelly Clarkson (2011)

    Timber - Pitbull feat. Ke$ha (2013)

Until Love Runs Out - One Republic (2014)

My playlist is up-to-date because I share my itunes account with my teens (who think my favs are sooo old).   I combined our accounts because I was disgusted by all their explicit music-- I have parental controls on it now.   Timber is pretty racy but it has a good workout beat.

    I love Happy too!

Marty -- I'm a bit lazy when it comes to putting together playlists, but sometimes like to listen to music when I walk.  I've purchased a few albums off iTunes that are fitness music albums -- popular songs, but remixed and all done to the same beat.  I actually find that I walk faster when I listen to one of those, as I'm keeping up with the beat of the music.

you should try the lolo app for walking and treadmill, I love it! It's very easy, just download your music and it arranges it to beats per minute and adjusts the tempo to your walking (or running) workout! Really keeps me motivated

hi MartyJ, the sorry was for the length of the list (70 songs) not the decade (the 70's).  Thanks though!  If you can believe it, that list was whittled down from over 100.  But like you I'd appreciate new ideas for music to pump the walk!

Here's what got me out & kept me going for 50 mins yesterday (to side A) and 90 mins today (to side B then side A again LOL).

Side A: New Country - Jean Luc Ponty / Home - Lene Lovich / Africa - Toto / Fun Fun Fun - Beach Boys / Message of Love - Pretenders / Love With a Thinker - Utopia / Half Moon - Rufus / Straight On Red - Pat Metheny Group / Let's Get Away From It All - Dave Brubeck Quartet / That Cat Is High - Manhattan Transfer / Java Jive - Manhattan Transfer / Big Log - Robert Plant.

Side B: Alive & Kicking - Simple MInds / Life In One Day - Howard Jones / Fantasy - Earth Wind & Fire / Time the Avenger - Pretenders / Your Sister Can't Twist - Elton John / I Want a New Drug - Huey Lewis & The News / Middle of the Road - Pretenders / Women Around the World at Work - Martha & The Muffins / Boys of Summer - Don Henley / All She Wants to Do Is Dance - Don Henley / Jammin' - Bob Marley & The Wailers.

Check out the free pandora radio ap for your phone. Create the station "workout radio". It's a good mix of  old and new music with a great beat for walking or running on the treadmill. You do have to listen to a few commercials on the free version, but if you like it you can buy the commercial free version.
