Her Twitter page says she had " 8 rounds of CMF". She had Stage 2 that spread to the sentinel lymph node.

Said she only lost 1/4 of her hair, yet it looks thicker after 8 rounds than it did after the first 2 rounds, when she cut it short.

Seems to the only person on TV that kept her hair.

I am actually wondering if she is wearing a wiglet. I am 8 months post treatment and my hair is so thin in the front that I am wearing one and you would never know. I had my natural hair coloured and had it styled to match it perfectly.

Good wigs look absolutely natural.  I believe insurance will cough up for them.  I was wondering  also if she had cold cap.  U of Michigan will not use cold cap because of fear that those little cancer cells will hang out in the scalp.

Why would she say that she only lost 1/4 of her hair, if she was really wearing a wig or hair piece?

I swear her hair looks natural.

Would anyone keep 3/4 of their hair after that much chemo?

kicks - Amy Robach is an anchor on Good Morning America, the ABC morning program.  She did an on-air mammogram since she was at the age of recommended first screening and was surprised to learn that she had breast cancer.

I too am surprised that she did CMF, as I believe she was node positive, but I am sure she received adequate medical advice and this course of action was carefully considered.  CMF does not cause the degree of hair loss of several other chemo regimens.  Here is some info about CMF and hair loss from an Australian site:

"CMF usually causes some hair loss, but this tends to be a gradual thinning with successive cycles of treatment. With oral CMF it may be complete (though always reversible). With intravenous CMF, only about 20% of patients will require a wig."

CMF also has less severe SEs compared to the taxanes and anthracyclines, so might be used in cases where peripheral neuropathy or heart failure are potentially a problem. It may be first generation, but has almost the same efficacy as the newer drugs in large groups, but for an individual patient may be preferable for other reasons, and may be as effective or better, especially if the 3rd generation cause such bad SEs that the person cannot finish the number of cycles needed.

The most important thing we need to remember when commenting on AR's treatments, appearance etc. is that we simply don't know all the details. A certain amount of info has been released but I feel sure that there is plenty that hasn't. The best we can do is speculate at this point. This is probably true of any celebrity ailment.

I don't know who she is as I'm here in New Zealand but I did CMF for 6 months 14years ago. I have naturally very thick hair and while it did thin some on chemo no one but my hair dresser and I had any idea. If she is having her hair done for TV all the time I think it would be easy for to make it look like she had lost none at all.

I'm wondering if she used Penguin cold caps.  I read a recent article saying they're becoming more accepted by oncs in the US and could be more commonly utilized here in the near future.   It seems logical to me that she would have access to something like that.    Deanna
