CT scan

Options

I'm 6 years out from my initial diagnosis and taken back when I got the results back from a CT scan (I had it done as I was having difficulties on my left side) that came back with "ill-defined multifocal sclerosis in thoracolmbar spine and right iliac bone - suspicious for metastatic disease".  So now I wait for a bone scan to be scheduled.  I also had this on my left knee which seems odd.  They are using CT scan from 2008.  My case is complicated as I have scoliosos and pins and screws in my back.  I have no more pain in the right side than I usually do.  I also did zometa for 3 years to try and get some extra insurance against getting bone mets.  Needless to say I'm scared and my heart breaks that my two kids (age 14 and 10) will have to go down this scarey road again.  The initial x-ray of my back and hips didn't show anything alarming.  I also had prolotherapy done in that area and wonder if that would affect things at all.  So any wisdom and encouragement is greatley appreciated.  I know that it is what is is and at the end of the day I'll do what I need to do.

    "They are using CT scan from 2008."

    I'm confused.  Is the CT from 2008 the one that shows these findings, or is the 2008 one just of the knee?

    In any case, good luck to you, Roberta.  It's always scary when we think we may have progression of our disease, at any stage.  If you still have questions after the bone scan, you might want to request an MRI of the spine, as it shows the vertebra and surrounding tissues in great detail.

      Also, be reassured that if you do have a few mets in your bones, there are excellent drugs available now that may keep it stable for years and years. Your kids don't have to go down the scary road if you get your treatments and they work, as they most likely would.   The fact that you've been cancer free for a long time after initial diagnosis points to a pretty slow growing disease in any case.  Waiting is really hard, and I think you'll feel much better after you scan.  If it's negative, you can relax. If they find something, you'll get a plan.

      {{{hugs to you}}}

    Thank you so much for the words of support.  The CT scan that they used to compare the new CT scan was done in 2008 before any treatment and it was clear at that time.  As far as the knee is concerened it was an x-ray they took recently.  I also had an x-ray of my spine done and nothing suspicious was found (this was a month before CT scan).  What started this ball rolling was I'm having swelling in my left leg (mostly ankle/foot) and this has been going on since January.  I get around by limping now.  They found nothing on the CT scan to explain what is going on and I have to in for another Ct scan with contrast.  My bone scan is set up for next Tuesday so at least I get it done quickly.  I just signed off with my oncologist in Febraury.  I know whatever comes to be I'll just do what needs to be done and I know I can get amazing support on these boards.  I walk (well not latley) with two women who have mets and both are doing wonderful and I just have to remind myself of these women.
