Return of Period - Bleeding for 4 weeks and counting

I went into chemopause after my first chemo tx.  That was in late February of 2013.  I started bleeding heavily at the end of March over a year of not having a period.  I've been to my OBGYN and had a couple of ultrasounds that showed 7 fibroids, two of which are in the uterus the other 5 are in the surrounding muscle and tissue.  I was given progesterone to stop the bleeding which worked for a few days but since, I'll go from spotting throughout the day to all of a sudden drenching a tampon and a pad within less than an hour.  I have passed blood clots the size of the palm of my hand.  The cramping is horrendous and to the point when it's really bad, I'm nauseous and break out in a sweat.  I'm a hot mess right now.   I'm scheduled for a complete hysterectomy and oophyrectomy (sp?) in May, actually it's 05/21.  That's the earliest my OBGYN can do it because he's on vacation and at a conference for 2 weeks plus they have to have another surgeon in the OR and that's the earliest they can get it all worked out.   So, in the meantime, I'm taking progesterone because I can't imagine how bad it would be without it though, my breast cancer was ER/PR +.   I'm kind of stuck and really starting to wonder if it's really my period that's causing the bleeding since were on week 4 and if they're really fibroids and if so, where did they all come from all of a sudden?  Lots of thinking going on in my headand was wondering if anyone had similar stories to share?

    Crickets...

Anyone else experience the return of their period after being in chemopause for over a year?  If so, was it normal, slightly abnormal, horrendous, etc?

Sorry you haven't received a response. I was initially diagnosed when I was thirty. I didn't have periods while on treatment, and when it was over, everything returned to normal within a few months. No excessive bleeding. Four weeks of bleeding doesn't sound normal to me, fibroids or not. I'm glad to hear you had it checked out. Maybe the hysterectomy/oopherectomy will reveal more.  Good luck with the surgery.

I had a uterus full of fibroids and a 3-month long heavy period nine years prior to being diagnosed with BC.  I had issues with tampons so was using pads but could not get out of the shower long enough to even dry off without blood running down the inside of my legs.  I am inclined to think that your bleeding is not your period but the fibroids causing the continuous bleeding.  Many women have asymptomatic fibroids - up to 80% of women, particularly after age 50, but for whatever reason yours have become symptomatic.

mine came back after a yr and was so heavy (clotting, cramping etc) that i ended up in the. ER.  All tests done came out clear. It lasted about a week and a half. Have since shut down the ovaries

Thanks ya'll.  I'm just curious why/how it comes back after being gone for so long.  My OBGYN thinks it's my period that has come back but that the fibroids have really created a mess with it.  I just know that I've spent a fortune on pads and tampons for the past month because of having to double up.  Chemo really does a number on our body and it's functions.

I'm hoping that's all it is.  I can't help but be a little scared that it could really be my bc that's metastasized.  The chances are very slim but can't stop thinking about the fact that there was only a 2% chance that it would be found in my lymph nodes but yet, there it was.  I'm so ready to get this taken care of and not have to worry (at least about this) anymore.
