Kathec, you are funny! Of course you can join in. That is so cool that you are a silver smith. I seriously considered that as a profession more than once. I would love to see your work.

OLALLIEBERRY JAM AT LINNS IN CAMBRIA.... ohmygosh... YUM!!!
The Olallieberry (pronounced oh-la-leh) is the primary fruit grown at the Linns' family farm. The berry was first developed in 1949 at Oregon State University by the U.S. Department of Agriculture by crossing a Loganberry with a Youngberry. The result was called Olallie, a Native American word meaning "berry". The Olallieberry has the physical characteristics of the classic blackberry, but it is genetically about two-thirds blackberry and one-third red raspberry.

blessings,
I have been to Linn's and yes, that jam is delicious!

I see I'm not the only one who never seems to sleep! Supposed to be at work in 6 hours. Thinking chance of that happening on time is slim. Anyone know a good self tanner? Currently using Fake Bake. I love that it doesn't streak and has a natural color but it doesn't last very long. Less than a week. I never seem time find the time to reapply like I should. Any good ones?
-
Hi DP, I love St Tropez self Tan, they do a sensitive skin version now that I have bought but haven't tried yet. I also have a Luminess spray tan set with an airbrush, which works really well too, but only a week or so with that too.
There aren't many that last more than I week because your skin is shedding and it needs to be polished or exfoliated to get rid of those skin cells and start again.
Being diligent with body moisturizer, or body butter can help the tan last a bit longer.
I love to use Dimitris Sugar body scrub too, but you can't use that one and tan immediately after because it has that smooshy Kalamatta Olive Oil from his Mother's Olive Grove that's so rich, but it feels amazing!LOL
-
I usually use Neutrogena with a microfine spray that doesn't need to be rubbed in. Plus, I can get the backs of my legs pretty easily.
But Ariom is right - it always sheds off after a while no matter how much exfoliating and moisturizing I do!
I was thinking of starting to do "dry brushing" on my skin every day ... supposed to have lots of health benefits. Anyone do this?
-
Hi Blessings, I have tried it off and on over the years. There's not much I haven't tried!LOL
I know some people that swear by it, but I didn't really notice much. It is supposed to work on the lymph system and cellulite, among other things.

Welcome kathec! "... smart and hip..." But, of course, you must stay. Come sit by me...
Ah, caviar! With smoked salmon and the tiniest dollop of sour cream, and champagne. I drink my vodka Russian-style: kept in the freezer and in one shot.
Beauty tip: You've all heard me complain about how horrible my fingernails have been since chemotherapy. Which is strange because - during chemo - it was my toenails that turned brown and fell out, but my fingernails remained intact. However, post-chemo, it's my toenails that are fine and my fingernails that are brittle and deeply ridged, and prone to peeling, cracking, and white spots. I stopped wearing nail polish because it just called attention to how awful they looked.
However, my mother gave me a bottle of Avons' "Smooth Beginnings" clear base coat this weekend and, may I say, W.O.W. Smooths out the nail beautifully, so much so that - this morning - I am wearing a screamin', candy-apple red nail laquer to match my lipstick, and my hands look great. No visible ridges or nail scarring showing through. Cha-CHING!!!

I love Bittmann, and what a great name for a food guy.

Good morning, love this thread. I started using Sally Hansen "Nail Wrap" a few weeks ago and love it. It keeps my brittle nails from peeling, splitting and it has a lovely pink cast so I can wear it alone. I'm going to try Avon's Smooth Beginnings product too. Sounds so good and Avon makes wonderful hand exfollient and creams. Kathc, I agree that this thread is fun and helpful.

How do i find an Avon lady in my neighborhood?? my fingernails are trashed, even this far out, and i have been taking biotin daily since treatment! I have used the nuetrogena tanner in the micromist, too, it is least objectionable as far as not too orangey, and also does not smell as bad as some others, but i think i will try some of the others mentioned above. it is like my legs are so white, they deflect the sun's rays! Arms, no problem, they have been exposed to the sun so much, they brown at the sliightest hint of sun. Manfriend tells me i look like napolean ice cream. Well, he used to tell me that!
-
Kath, you can order from Avon online now. You don't have to have an Avon lady.
-
Thanks, Melissa! Who knew! What happened to all those women? ..... I remember the woman in my 'hood when i was a kid, I was a wild child and tomboy, but my sister had so many of those little lipsticks... i am getting out my credit card now! i do leave the pedicures to the professionals, there are a lovely bunch of ladies near me, who also do the threading of my brows, and i am overdue. Port flush for me tomorrow, and i was wondering when did you guys have them out? They told me a month ago, that i could, but....it really doesnt bother me, though summer is coming. Manfriend, we have lived together 15 years, and i are getting ready to go to ventura to his sister's beach house for five days. we want to drive further up the coast from there, and check out Cambria and environs. We love our little house in silverlake, but are looking to get out of the city, and have more land...but near enough to get to santa barbara, or la. Fun! between jobs for him, and i havent even begun looking since tx.
-
Everyone I've know for years who sold Avon brought their catalogs to their "day jobs" and sold things to the women they work with. A lady across the street from me who is a school teacher sells Avon, but I never order. I always liked their lipstick (used to have a perfect true-not blue or orange-red called Persian Red. It was my signature color for years, but they retired that color. Also liked their nail polish and especially the loose powder that was in a twist-top grinder. Of course, they don't make that any more either.

I still want Milkmaid's Pixie Pink in the white enamel with pink flowers case
AND
Faberge Stained Glass - looked clear in it's long, long case, and stained your lips...WANT THEM BOTH.
Also Elizabeth Arden Bigarade Cologne, smelled like oranges & lemons
-
Jovan Frankincense & Myrhh perfume.
A lot of the old classic perfumes would smell different, because the European Union, in it's infinite wisdom, had decided we all need saving from ourselves, so have outlawed many perfume ingredients as potential allergens. So if you think your perfume smells different than it used to, it does.
-
kathec if you prefer the personal touch of an "Avon lady", you can use the website to locate one near you. I usually just order online for mail delivery but you can order online for the lady to bring it to you too. Either way, I like to choose a rep because even when you order online they get a small sales percentage. I figure if I am ordering anyway that it is nice to let someone else benefit from it. I love avon lipgloss.
-
Melissa, I remember that perfume in the 70's, loved it!
I also used to wear Monsieur Lanvin in the Summer as a body splash. I loved it!
-
thanks for that info, Pie. I need all the help I can get. i had extra time on my hands today, and in the right light (dim), I look ok. Otherwise, I look like I'm in drag. a lighter hand for sure, is necessary for me, but it was fun...I also collect those little glass vials, when you can get them, at the perfume counters. And right before the holidays, I love that Sephora has those little sampler sets, with a coupon for a regular size bottle for free, I think, of your favorite of the sample.
Once, I worked at a womens homeless shelter, and people would give donations and we were not allowed to give the women perfume donations for some reason, so we would get to take them home with us. One was something like 273? Anyone heard of or like that one? my love found it irresistable!
Selena, I wish I could come sit by you!
-
Was it 5711? Was a lemony scent.
-
maybe it was 247? ill google see what pops up
-
I desperately want a bottle of Parfumerie Generale's L'Ombre Fauve, but I just don't have $125 for a bottle of perfume.
-
For those of you who love perfume & samples, this place can get you in a lot of trouble. It is fun & fascinating.
-
Chemo brain!!!!! I loved it in school, nice for summer. Is it still available?
-
I used to love 4711 too. My Mother had a huge bottle of it on her dresser. It is still available here in Aus. It's super cheap too, 800ml or about 27 oz, is about $38.00
-
Melissa, I just went to the link and looked up my all time favorite perfume Paloma Picasso, it is horrendously expensive here in Aus so I always request it as a gift from my Husband when he can't think of what to get me! I knew what was in it, but just noticed "castareum" (sp)for the first time! I worked in the cosmetics industry for years, but I don't ever remember hearing about this ingredient before and now you girls have educated me on Anal Glands in my perfume! What next? LOL
-
I like to put 4711 in a big trigger spray bottle in the fridge during the summer. It reminds me a lot of Jean Nate too.
-
Melissa, I wonder if that is why they stopped making Chanel #19. I loved that perfume.
-
Momine, I think it is still available, but it has been reformulated. One of it's predominant basenotes was oakmoss & that is one of the ingredients that has been restricted/replaced.
I mispoke about the EU. It is really the IFRA that has wreaked havoc on perfume ingredients & formulations.
