Got it Bobo! My surgery is scheduled for May 27th so I'll need support from you beautiful ladies.
-
Thank you, ladies!
-
I'm visiting my corporate office (across country) for work and seeing friends I haven't seen for quite awhile (who know I've had surgery & chemo).
They ask how I'm doing and I whip open my light weight sweater set and tell them with a quiet voice and slight smile - I'm rockin' flatness like a BadA$$ - It completely cracks them up and kind of let's them know I'm okay!!!
Nice job on the name of this thread!!!
-
To the ladies who are fairly new to the flatness...once I got over the initial feeling that everyone was staring at my flat chest, I barely gave it another thought....most days. It just seems normal to me....like some people have huge breasts, some have small ones and some have none.
-
Pip, so true. I had a doctor sitting directly across from me discussing my history. He looked over at flat little me and asked about what type of reconstruction I had. I cracked up and told him I couldn't believe he was looking at me when he asked that question. He asked why and said that lots of women are small and it looked natural with my frame. I had already mostly gotten over my self consciousness but that really finished it off.

Good Afternoon Ladies,
Bought 5 spaghetti strap cami's today! I never wore spaghetti strap anything when I had to lug around those DD+'s in a minimizer bra. Yes, I am rocking my flatness! (As well as my baldness!) Enjoying the 75 degree sunshine, Always S

We've got your back, boopie!
SunnyGirl, you make me smile. You badas$! It's true -- sometimes you see people you haven't seen in a while, and you think, Wait. They don't know anything about this. But then they either don't notice or they don't say anything. River Rat, your story is so funny to me! It's almost as if he was trying to date you
SGC -- hey there. I too am rocking the spaghetti strap camis. I had DDDs myself. H&M makes these organic cotton spaghetti strap camis with an adjustable strap. It's good for rockin' flatness because in most cases we'll want to tighten the straps and adjust the cami up a little bit. My most comfortable cami this far, though, has been gap pure body. Those are some pretty soft camis.
What I wore to work today:
- gap body cami (tiny gray stripes)
- black EF jeans that have been waxed to look like leather -- they rock
- this sheer drapey top that I got from Chico's, god help me, when I'd had too many partial mastectomies, lumpectomies, and biopsies and my L boob was totally uneven (I had a meeting today). It was dark red with charcoal and black and golden in it, like an abstract watercolor flower pattern.
- golden colored silk EF scarf (a long thin one)
No real shirt, no jacket, no nothing. You could see the cami right through the sheer poncho.
- giant black clogs.

I have about a dozen camis in all sorts of colors, so much more comfy than any bra I ever wore!! With them I have managed to be able to keep some of my v neck tops.
Today I went shopping and I wore a pair of gray leggins, short boots, a white very light long T-shirt with a light purple swing sweater (3/4 sleeves) and a long scarf in greens and lavenders. I am so looking forward to Spring!

Approximately one month after my double mastectomy I was walking our main street with my lovely husband. I was sporting a black "Ramones" t-shirt, blue jeans and very bald head. I didn't care... but then suddenly it hit me like a brick that my looks might be affecting him!! Did I look like a boy?? Crap... suddenly I couldn't remember what I had looked like when I last checked myself in the mirror... Wait, had I checked myself in the mirror at all since the surgery? Whoops! Why had I not stopped to consider him?
He laughed, grabbed my hand and told me that I was beautiful... and NO, I didn't look like a boy! Whew... what a relief.
This is one crazy ride and I am EXTREMELY relieved to find this discussion group. I was worried that I was the only one that had NO interest in reconstruction or prosthetics!
Thank you Ladies
-
Vespa, you rock! Obviously you would be incredibly attractive in a Ramones t-shirt!! You are silly to think otherwise
Your beautiful attitude as you rocked that outfit probably made you more attractive than ever, in fact. What did your boots look like? I assume there were boots.

Need some advice.
Port is where straps go. No spaghetti straps for me. Wore tanks this winter to work out. Don't want to wear them this summer as they mold to my chest. Too hot and humid.
Any Camis or light ts with wide straps and higher neckline and bigger armholes? Have BMX and mild LE on r side.
Thanks
-
Z, it's me!!
I am no cami expert by any means. I think we all know who that is. But cami with wide straps and high neckline and bigger armholes equals gap body cami. They may call them 'tanks' -- I believe the cami is the one with the spaghetti straps.
Ever since my third (wait -- it's my fifth) surgery, I wear these exclusively as my first layer. I've tried a bunch of others -- including two very advanced ones M sent me -- but those advanced ones had room for poofs or for a little bit of breast, so they don't provide the kind of support I need for day wear. They are very nice for home, though.
So. Gap body tank. They have gap body tees too. Wait, I'm going to get a link:
http://www.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=1009565&v...
The other thing is 'supersoft.' I love gap supersoft tees. They are long-sleeved, for the most part. I use them as a bottom layer, then put a box top over. I also sleep in them. I love supersoft shirts like nobody's business. I see they are on sale. I have about four each in black and white.

Yay, Vespa!!!
-
Bobo,
Saw this and it reminded me of you !!!
-
Fia, that is perfect!!!!
-
Love that Fia! Now, if only I did not appear harmless...
-
Thank you bobogirl - for the response to my "Ramones" t-shirt boy fashion parade.
I am embarrased to admit that I was actually in full "boy-mode"... I was hitting the lowest rung of street fashion by sporting a pair of Chuck Taylors!
Still... it might have worked! But I have since started putting more thought into my wardrobe!

I think that definitely works.
Funny. I have been thinking about androgyny. I love pictures in which the models rock a very serious androgyny vibe (like my favorite Eileen Fisher model does). And I'm nearly six feet tall, and my hair is still short (cut it during mx time because was worried could not wash hair properly). But lately I've been very sensitive to whether or not people think I am a man. I don't want them to think that. I have caught myself worried about it.
Androgyny is one thing. But people thinking you are a man is another, it seems. I haven't had anyone ask me yet. But I just wanted to let you know. Here I think it's so cool on others. But, should I rock that look myself, I realize I am terrified of being 'read' as male. X
-
Bobo, I'm 5'4", my hair is white and very short, by choice. I wear very feminine glasses. Still get called sir!!!!!
So wear big flashy ear rings and rock on!
-
Big flashy earrings? I'm afraid that will make matters worse. When I wear a denim shirt I fear I look like a transgendered cowboy!

I saw something today that I had to share here. The title of the piece is "Mastectomy 'monokini' swimwear helps breast cancer survivors feel beautiful." Make sure to click on the slideshow too...amazing. (I didn't get arrows at the side of the slideshow to continue but I hovered my cursor at the right side of the slideshow and it looked active so I clicked and continued on through the whole thing. Edited to add this text from the piece, "An array of swimsuits that reveal the scars left behind by mastectomy surgery is getting a flurry of attention online."
Mastectomy Monokini swimwear helps breast cancer survivors feel beautiful

Those women have nicer scars than I do for sure. Also much much better bodies. I'll stick to my old lady hide a lot suits.
-
I wouldn't wear those IN my house, much less outside. Laughing at old lady hides a lot suit!!!! Where do you buy them?
-
Fred Meyer for 2 of them. I bought a pair of shorts and a top and may wear the shorts over an old suit that has a pretty thin bottom.
-
Not familiar with Fred Meyer. Is that a local store, or on line?
-
Local here. They're owned by Kroger, so maybe they exist under different names elsewhere. Kohl's may also be a source for modest suits. On line, there's a company that even makes totally covered up suits for Moslem women. I don't know if they can swim in them or not.
-
Wren, I haven't seen adult women but I have seen young girls swimming in those totally covered up suits.
-
One of the Y's here instituted a women only swim time because so many immigrants couldn't swim in mixed company. They cover the windows so men can't see in. I think it's a great idea because so many of them couldn't swim and we have a lot of water here.
-
Wren, that is nice.
On a funny note, the other day my granddaughter remarked, "you can go to a topless beach now." I laughed and told her I think she had missed the point about the topless beach thing.
