Good morning Lolis,
I can understand your sadness and feelings around the fertility issues. The cost of IVF is prohibitive for many and would be for me as well. But don't lose hope that one day you will have children. I've read some inspiring stories of women that have gone on to have children after finishing treatment and all was well. What did they say about the Lupron?
Glad you like your MO, it makes a difference doesn't it! That does sound like good news re the tumor
I hope that you take extra good care of yourself today, you've had one heck of a week! I also hope that you get lots of love n kindness this weekend and maybe plan a few things that will help you relax and feel good before it all starts up again next week.
Hope you have a good day! x
-
Thanks Nikkito. I appreciate your kind words and I am really hoping that I end up having a kid after this has been taken care of. I'd happy even with just one. We bought the house thinking of having two but I would take even just the one.
The MO and the fertility seem to think that Lupron wouldn't make a difference and that suppressing the ovaries, doesn't mean that you will fertile after that. In light of this, I have decided to not take it.
I won't have time to do anything fun this weekend as I need to work. BC chose the worse time to surface, I have taken on new duties and it's year-end :-( it would have been better if happened a bit earlier Ahahhahah
Hope you have a good weekend too. The weather seems nice :-)!!!xox
-
Lolis, I hope that for you too.
That's really unfortunate about the Lupron, but as you've said no sense taking an extra medication if it won't have the desired effect.
Year end, Oh no! : ( Is there any way you may be able to delegate some of those "extra" duties to someone else. Most important thing is to take good care of yourself, so if there is a way to lighten your work load, I would consider it.
I'm thankful that there's sunshine and warmer temps for sure! Though someone told me this afternoon that it's supposed to snow on Monday (not kidding!) wth...winter's just gonna start all over again lol
Hang in there! xx

Hey Nikkito,
How are you? Did you get your results yet?

Hi Lolis!
Sorry for the delay in getting back . I'm doing ok thank you. How are you doing?? How is your week going? I went for my u/s and a mammogram at the hospital. I have the one spot that is the solid one and looked iffy and then lots of cysts. Unfortunately they couldn't do the biopsy on the spot because it was the weekend, but I'm booked Wednesday for that. I feel as though I've calmed down significantly which is good. Though my anxiety went up a bit last night I got a late night voicemail from my GP. I haven't seen her since I got referred to the bc. Anyhow she said she had booked me in for an appointment on Monday!? Which I wasn't aware of. But had to cancel because it's a holiday. When I had my physical and she felt lumps in my breasts she also discovered a little lump on my cervix and I haven't gotten those results because I've been focused on figuring this out! In all the years I've seen her she's never called late at night and never booked an appointment for me herself. But I'm not going to let my anxiety spike again. It is what it is. And I just want to enjoy the Easter weekend with my son. Have they given you an indication when you will be starting chemo? I hope you have a good Easter weekend! And keep in touch, you're in my thoughts and I'd like to hear how you are doing.

Hi Nikkito
Hope you have a good Easter weekend. FX that it's good news from GP.
I am having surgery on Tuesday, unilateral mastectomy with node dissection. Good thing I am off on Monday, gives me some tome to relax before the surgery (first one ever).
Chemo will start 4-5 weeks after surgery. Also seeing the plastic surgeon on May 2nd. So my journey is now beginning.
We have a couple of events in June and a wedding in August (bro-in-law wedding) that I am not sure I will attend at this point.
Also, just found out that there is a wig salon at PMH that I might visit next time I am at the hospital.
Where is the biopsy?
Happy Easter!!

Lolis Good luck today with your surgery! I am wishing you all the best and will be thinking of you...when you are feeling up to it, let us know how you are doing. xo

I have to go in tomorrow morning for my path consult after my lumpectomy last week. I'm not feeling as confident as I did after the first consult with my BS for the initial biopsy. She was so confident about my prognosis that we could just do the lumpectomy and rads. Now I'm reading on this site women who were told the same thing and ended up with chemo. She even gave me a "breast buddy" to call who lived nearby and who went through the same thing. I've called and left a message twice with no response. Wish me the best tomorrow!

HomeMom, have you ever heard of the Oncotype test? it is test of the cancer cells to see if there is a chemo treatment that will help you. It is commonly used, I can't remember if their lab is in TX or CA.
Ask your doctor about it. I did inquire when I was in treatment and spoke to very nice persons who handle incquiries from people like me. It had recentl;y become available for DCIS to determine if radiation is appropriate for DCIS. I do believe that insurance covers it.

infobabe - yes she explained that to me as well. They will send it out for the oncotype test in Cali IF my nodes are clear.

Thinking of you Lolis, I just read your other post, didn't realize you were having today's surgery @ pm. I hope all went well!! Just think this is a big part of your treatment, now behind you!. I'll be there tomorrow for my biopsy. Hope you are resting well...x
-
Hi Nikkito,
How was the biopsy?
I had left mastectomy with axillary lymph nodes dissection on Tuesday. I got home 24hours later. I have two drains which should be taken out soon.
It is not as bad as I thought it would be. The anticipation of the surgery was worse than the day of the surgery.
In two weeks I will find out more about the cancer and the type of chemo that I will need. Tomorrow I am starting the fertility treatment as well and hoping it will be a success.
So step 1 is completed on to step 2.Let me know how you are doing.

Lolis,
Glad to hear you are doing well! I'm the same way; I worry myself to death before any medial procedure. Will you be getting reconstruction? I haven't had my surgery yet, but I'm thinking no immediate reconstruction and maybe none at all.
Shirley
-
Shirley,
I will do reconstruction but after all my treatments are done, which will be next year. I don't mind how I look now but I think reconstruction but make it a bit easier on wearing clothes and other things. Will go for a bra fitting in 4 weeks for a prosthesis.
Good luck with your surgery. Ask for a dressing to hold your drains close to your body as it is makes it a bit more comfortable.

Hi Lolis, my biopsy went well, thanks. Very happy to get it done. It was simple and straightforward and I really didn't feel anything after they did the freezing, which amazed me! Though I guess that's the whole point of freezing lol. Beforehand I was sitting in the restaurant downstairs and I was thinking of you, wondering how your surgery had gone. I go back for the results on Tuesday.
Happy to hear that your surgery went well! How are you feeling now? I think the "anticipation" seems to be one of the worst things. I'm also really happy to hear that you'll be able to do the fertility treatments - that's great news. Good luck with starting on that. Keep me posted. Have a good weekend. xo
-
Hi Nikkito, haven't heard from you for a while and I wondered how you are travelling. Hope all is well.
-
thanks for the tip!
-
Hi Nikkito,
I am feeling well. Still can't fully raise my arm over my shoulder but it's very close. The area around the incision is swollen a bit and it's annoying but apparently it's part of the healing process.
When do you get the biopsy results?
Wednesday I am seeing the surgeon for my follow up and can't wait for it to be here.
Tomorrow I am doing the egg harvesting and have heard it's painful, not looking forward to it :-(.
Hope all is well.

I had first breast cancer in 2011 in left breast then a different cancer in my right breast. I had wanted in 2011 to have a double mastectomy but getting it in the second breast is about 5%...well, made that stat!....Having a double means you can get a DIEP for both. I may be wrong, but you can't have a DIEP with one and then down the road another.....somebody correct me if I am wrong! Reconstructed breasts can be very lovely. You may be able to even save your nipple and have a skin sparing mastectomy. Unfortunately, it is your decision. It always hurts me to see such young women as yourself having to deal with this issue and the choices are much more complicated than when you are over 50 or 60. Whatever your decision, you have to feel comfortable with it!!!! I live in B.C....everything was quick...under two weeks.
