I read some stories and I am confused. What is better if mammo and mri are clear? Core biopsy or punch biopsy? Thanks!

Why do you need a biopsy if everything is clear?

Have you talked with a doctor about this? Many women who have posted on this board thought they had ibc. Most didn't. I think only 1% of bc is ibc. But anyway, from what I've gathered here a punch biopsy is how it is diagnosed.

I had fine needle biopsies.  My first 'sign' was an enlarged lymph node under arm which was biopsied via fine needle as were a few other areas that the Radiologist thought looked like might be suspicisous.  For a biopsy to show amuthing there haa tp be an area that can be located.

Yorkie Mom - Despinagr is correct - IBC does  not usually show on a mammo or US.  Instead of forming as a 'lump', it forms in 'nests' or 'bands'.  That is why neoadjuvant chemo is necessary to try to get it to form a 'lump' with margins and shrink it so the surgeon has a chance of getting it all.  As in my case, there will sometimes be enlarged lymph nodes first that can be felt/seen.  No 2 people present exactly the same.

IBC is rare - of all DXd BCs only between 1% and 5% are IBC.  If everyone who decide because they have a skin issue were actually IBC - it would, by far, be the most common form of BC which it isn't.

    Kicks,

My IBC had no peau d'orange, pain, or redness. I did have an inverted nipple and one palpable mass. Sono found 2 other fairly large masses. Fine needle biopsy into all 3 gave me DX of IBC. Now on final approach to surgery. Masses have all shrunk or disappeared. A MRI w/contrast can ferret out IBC bands which otherwise are missed. Still, having had some experience of Greek hospitals, I'd want to find some certainty  -- not easy to do even in Athens unless you're very wealthy.

bride, who really is clueless as to why everyone leaps to the board the IBC train, it's a nasty trip, but  who understands why Despina is reacting as she is. I'd do the same.
