Hip pain query and scan question.....
Hello all,
New to forum, Just wanting to share this and see if anyone can offer advice as going a bit mad with worry! I've finished treatment for trip neg breast cancer in dec 2013 (diagnosed April 2013). However I've been suffering from a hip pain/ache, mainly on resting and at night. My question is....could this possibly be bone mets so soon after finishing chemo (finished in Oct 2013)? I've had a bone scan today and the radiologist gave the impression that all was ok but I can't help worrying and have that terrible 'gut' feeling. Also, is it possible that bone mets doesn't show up on bone scan?
Many thanks

Nc10, welcome to BCO -- although I'm sorry the reason you're here is a concern about a recurrence. I think one thing we have to keep in mind is that we all had aches and pains prior to our bc dx, and a new pain -- although it needs to be checked out -- could be due to any number of things totally unrelated to your bc hx.
Hopefully your bone scan will be clear, but if the pain persists, you may want to ask for an MRI which images more than just the bone.
Please keep us posted on what you find out! (((Hugs))) Deanna

Thanks so much Deanna for your reply. Feeling a little more positive today and you are so right about having aches and pains before bc. Fingers crossed all will be fine xx

Hi NC, I know nothing about bone Mets, but have had bursitis in my hip since forever (early 20s). It hurts most lying down, at night and often resolves with exercise. If your bone scan is clear and your docs aren't concerned, look into pinning down exactly when it hurts. See an orthopedist if it doesn't resolve. Mine is under control now with quad strengthening, a better mattress, and keeping the weight down. Best...

Hi NC
During my chemo in 2009, my left hip started hurting and still hurts today. During the radiation phase of my treatment, I went for an x Ray that showed a bone growth on my hip and could not rule out mets!!! What a scare!! I went for an MRI and agree with previous post that if it continues to bother you, you should insist on one. Mine showed that it was benign and that it was a bone island which is like an extra lump of bone!!!! It causes bursitis in my hip. I have also had a repeat MRI to make sure it had not gotten bigger and still benign. It still hurts to this day so I guess I should a follow up scan again. I even insisted several doctors review the film's. Anyway, my onc believes that my chemo regimen can cause some bone issues including arthritis which I have extensively.
New pains cause fear of recurrence in all of us! Since stress is not good either it is just better to get things checked so we don't worry!
Good luck NC and let us know how things turn out!!! Anyone else here have my rare bone island diagnosis after chemo???????
