I just wanted to check in my surgery bmx with expanders was last wed 4/16. Everything went as well as expected, I only had to stay 2 nights.I like everyone else is uncomfortable with pressure. I had 1 drain removed today and predict to have at least 2 more out on Thursday. I've tried to cut back to 2 per day on the oxy and have been getting plenty of rest. I also heard I had a clean path report today clear margins and 0 % is my lymphoid. I have slight hope I won't need chemo but since I'm estrogen negative and Her 2 +3 and this is my 2nd time with breast cancer was told I'll most likely need chemo.
I just wanted to update.
Thanks

cdelv66 - I should have called them before they closed the office. Now you get one of those after hours vm's that tell you if you want to change an appt to call during office hours. I thought about calling them at 6:45 or 7 but I don't know if I can do that either. I'm so stressed.

Hello April Sisters.
Question: Driving. Ouch. I think I'm just still so sore and possibly my TEs are irritating. I don't know. I see my PS on Thurs. a.m. for my first fill. Are you driving around as usual? How much rest are you still needing? Being 3 weeks out I have better energy but feel like I need a nap almost everyday. I'm taking advil or alleve for pain. I think tonight I need something stronger.
Renee51: If I were you I'd go on the trip. I'm still sore but oh would
I love to be on a vacay and not be trying to do my usual activities
etc. etc. Sounds like a heavenly way to recoup. All April ladies: Bad path reports, waiting for path results, possible shingles, drains still draining away, and any other irritating, anxiety producing stuff..... sending lots of positive thoughts for positive outcomes!!

Today is 1 week post -op today went to PS and he said I looked good and put in 240cc in each side of my TE -- it was fairly uneventful. Pulling the tape off was what hurt the worst. I asked when I could get the drains out and he said 2-3 weeks. WTH? I asked how we could make it 2 weeks and he said the take it easy. By looking at my drain log he could tell the days that I was more active. He said another week before any exercise with the exception hands over my head to brush my hair, etc. walking was ok but no sweating. It was a good day.
Those waiting on path reports think positive. I was told chemo from the beginning and the final report showed it was not needed. I will pray and keep positive for you all.
-
I go to the PS tomorrow morning at 10:30- Fully expecting the drain to be taken out. I've had only about 5-6 mls per day. 7am I have my path consult with the BS.....praying for no node involvement!!
-
Exactly two weeks post double mastectomy and completely off pain meds...still tight at times, but stretching helps!
-
Cdelv66, Shingles typically will be on one side of the body. Yes they itch but there is also a burning type pain associated with it. Shingles follow a derma tone also (the nerve fibers). Are you taking chemo? Is your immune system is compromised it is possible you have contracted shingles. Praying for you, you have enough to deal with, without dealing with shingles too. You might want to see your family physician for a diagnosis. There are some good antivirals you can take to minimize it.
-
I just have to say, I am so thankful for you ladies. By sharing your stories I am not as scared now. I look forward to reading your posts at the end of the day. Thank you for putting your thoughts, fears, concerns out here for those of us who are in waiting. I truly appreciate each of you. Hope you all have a wonderful, pain free night.

The Ps appt went well except that the drains have to stay in a bit longer, I'm still above or close to100ccs per day.
. But she is thrilled by my incision site and skin condition, I have to put bacitracin on my nipples since they are slightly scabbing, but otherwise all is well. No fills for a while since I had so much to begin with and that's fine with me, she's ok with me staying on Valium and Percoset for a while tho thought I could alternate the Percoset with Aleve and see if that helped equally. If not back to Percoset. Which still makes my poops challenging. And I'm back on another course of antibiotics. I see both her and my breast surgeon on Thursday and we will know more then including reviewing the path report which he said was ok. That's all for now. Mostly encouraging and positive. Hope everyone else is doing well.

That's great news Ninany! Renee51 - I have an appt with the doctor this morning. Thanks!
-
I will be thinking of you this morning. Deep breaths.

cdelv66,
Noooo! Freaking shingles? Geez, that is just not fair.
So, so, sorry.
Rambling Rose

cdelv - sorry bout the shingles:-(. I had a horrific case all on the left side of my face a few years ago - never good when your doctor says it is the worst case of herpes zoster she has ever seen! Felt like I was getting them again last fall, but I hightailed it into the doctor right away and got on famcyclovir right away so didn't get the lesions. Talked to my MO about shingles when we were going over my health history and he prescribed Famcyclovir as chemo can be stressful.
Hope you get yours under control! They are bad enough without everything else!
-
Had follow up appointment with BS on Monday, all steri strips are off and things look good.
I do have a seroma - so strange to hear sloshing coming from the left outside of my breast! I can't make it slosh, just happens occasionally. But, no redness, no tenderness or swelling above what I still have from the surgeries and no temperature. So, it will just re absorb on its own. MO concurred yesterday.
Overall, am super happy with my BS. The head of that practice had been recommended to me a few times but I couldn't get in to see him for 3 or 4 weeks after the cancer dx - but my BS was available. He also got good reports, but was still questioning my decision until I met him. Absolutely no regrets and could not have made a better choice for me. At least that part is over for me ...just see him in 3 months and then follow up appts for up to 3 years.
Best wishes to all of you suffering side effects and complications ...
-
Hi, Folks--Hope all that are on the other side are healing well and receive good path results...
For those of you that had a double w/ TE, how long did you all need someone home with you? Do you need someone 24hrs per day? I'm up next week and getting my ducks in a row....
Thanks!
-
Doctor confirmed I have shingles
3 prescriptions filled…we'll see how it goes! Hoping all the follow up appts go well!
-
Wishing you the best tomorrow,Divecat---keep us posted!!!

hello ladies. I am a May 16 surgery but have been following your thread. I appreciate so much hearing how well you are all doing and the seeing the strength you all have. Good luck tomorrow Divecat. I am having exact same surgery. I met a neighbors friend last weekend that was three weeks post op and was absolutely amazed at how well she was doing. She was at a dinner party and i would have never guessed what she had endured just three weeks before if I hadn't been clued in ahead of time. I wish you all such fast recoveries and thank you again for sharing.
Cdelv66, I am sorry to hear about shingles. I know that can be pretty rotten. I hope yours is not and that it clears quickly.
-
Zeeba, I am having surgery, same procedures as you next week too. I have lots of help coming my way. I don't know that I need it all, but my family wants to "help." So, I am allowing them to do for me because it is good therapy for them. They want to fix this and there is no fix, just gotta do what I have to do. My parents, husband and kids just want to be there for me. I am so very fortunate!!
Cdelv66, so sorry to hear about the shingles. Praying for quick recovery and that you new scripts work miracles.
-
DiveCat, all the very best wishes for your surgery today! Will be thinking of you and sending good thoughts
Cdelv, ugh, shingles. I am sorry you are having to endure that right now. Here's to a speedy recovery!
Vfay and RamblingRose, thanks for the good thoughts
. And Vfay, your kitty pic made my day!
Seems I have developed some cording in my left arm so going to book some physio to hopefully deal quickly with that. Continuing to work my way through getting a second opinion on my final path as well.
Way to go April ladies, thinking of you all ..... Hugs

DiveCat, Thinking of you this morning and wishing you the best on the start of your surgery/reconstruction journey.
cdelv66, So sorry to hear about your shingles outbreak. I hope meds are helping with any discomfort.
My PS removed both drains at my appointment on Tuesday. I did not feel a thing as they were being removed. I immediately felt a little better.
I am very fortunate to have received a positive pathology report yesterday. Although I had a large amount of DCIS in my right breast (6.2+ cm removed during lumpectomy and an additional 4.5 cm removed during mastectomy), the DCIS was noninvasive. I have been told that I will not need any additional treatment. I was surprised to learn that even though my cancer was estrogen/progesterone positive, I will not need to take any medication. My BS said that because I had pure, noninvasive DCIS and because I had a BMX, the medical community feels that in my case the benefits of not taking medication outweigh the possible side effects.
I was feeling a lot of discomfort over the past two days because of the long trips to see my PS and BS. I am still experiencing a feeling of tightness in my chest but it is tolerable. I am continuing to control my discomfort with Extra Strength Tylenol and Hydrocodone as needed. I will be showering for the first time this morning. Yea!

Got my drains out!!! The left one was no problem, piece of cake, the right one was a m******^***er!!! But they are out!!! Hallelujah!
-
DiveCat,
Wishing you luck with your surgery and sending you thoughts of a peaceful, relaxing dive in warm, clear, turquoise tropical waters.
-
Ninany - that's how it was for me, too. Left one was a breeze, the right one - ouch! Congratulations on getting those suckers out!
-
- April 24 - DiveCat, NSPBMX direct to implant, one step with Alloderm: Wishing you all the best. Good luck, today!
-
Thanks, Renee---I have my husband home for a week or 2, a friend lined up for the first day home (so he can get some rest) and my sister coming on Friday for 4-5 days. I'm hoping I'm feeling a bit independent by the time she leaves. Keep me posted on your recovery!
-
@Zeeba- I had a double with TE's 8 days ago. The first couple days I really appreciated the hubby home, but the last few days I could have gone solo without incident- assuming you have items you will need throughut the day in an area you can reach.

Just an update-
Yesterday I returned to the PS (day 7) and happily had one drain removed. On my left side I had quite a bit of fluid building up- enough so it would slosh around when walking. I guess I didn't realize how much it was because I always have the bra on for compression. He sent me back home with the drain, that had been pulling off about 20 CC's but asked me to squish the area that was retaining fluid to help push it out. Last night I pulled off 70 cc's and another 70 ccs this morning. I had a LOT of pain last night though and couldn't sleep. I am not sure if it was because I spent a lot of time driving around to the appoinments and out to dinner or from squishing the fluid build up out. Up until yesterday I was taking oxycodon before bed, and then again once during the day. Yesterday- took it 4 times and it didn't even touch the discomfort. It is a little better today, but I cannot seem to get a comfortable position to sleep or even just sit. Hopefully things will loosen up shortly, and in the mean time I am back to taking it easy in hopes that maybe I just over did it a little yesterday.
Oh- and if you are wondering what it is like getting the drains out- I was very pleased at how much of a non-issue it was. I had drains back when I had a tummy tuck done, and that was much worse... and those were not bad. When I commented to the PS how much less I felt it, he said it was because I am numb from the surgery. Funny- at the moment I don't notice feeling numb. I still am pretty numb from the tummy tuck (pretty much my whole abdomen from hip bones up through the ribcage) so I am wondering if it will just be like this, or if at some point I will notice the numbness. Anyway- when the Ps snipped the stictches I knew he was doing that, but was unaware he had started to even pull out the tubing. I am blind in my right eye so couldn't "see" what he was doing- and I sure didn't feel it. And it was a lot of tubing
If this is something you are stressing about, it was a total non-issue!
-
Had my surgery today number 3, this time I am having a lot of pain, hence the lack of sleep. Anyway I luv my new ps he was so imformative...said the lump seemed to be from a bunching of mesh, said that he never seen mesh like this before and redid both pockets with alloderm...also he sent me home in compression bra advised no lifting no raising arms take it easy and gave muscle relaxer, instructions to sleep upright and said I could shower way different than other surgeon.
-
Sorry for the third surgery and pain you are in. But I hope some relief comes with your good feelings about the plastic surgeon. I am up with some pain too. But I am going to try my post surgery meditation stuff that first made me laugh than actually helped. Hoping you have some relief soon. You will be on my mind
