When can I exercise again, after recon.surgery?
I went through reconstructive surgery in the end of February this year, and got Tissue Expanders. So right now I'm almost 2 months post-op. They are being filled every or every second week, and right now they are 250 cc. They will be filled up to 350 cc I think, then after that I will wait for 3 months, and then the TE's will be exchanged to permanent implants. Anyway, I'm used to exercising a couple a times a week; running and going to the gym, etc. I'm longing for going out for a run, even if just a short one, but I don't really know how soon I can do this. The doctor said I shouldn't exercise the breast muscle until 2 months after surgery, and I'm not planning to do any breast exercises anyway, but I'm a little worried that I will damage anything by jogging. What are your experiences of this? Maybe there's no problem with running now, almost 2 months post-op.?
Thanks, and Happy Easter!

Hello duvan, welcome to the breastcancer.org community.
While you wait for a reply there are also some other discussions going on around exercise after reconstruction. The top two links are from some time ago but they may help you get some insight. The last link is a daily exercise support group which has begun recently.
Best of luck

Come over to the "Lets Post Our Daily Exercise' thread mentioned by the mods. There are quite a few ladies who have done reconstructive surgery & they could help answer your questions.
*Just a note, the board may be a little slow this weekend due to the Easter holiday, so it might take longer than usual to get responses.

Duvan - I'd ask your PS specifically about running. After all my surgeries, even minor revision surgeries, my PS had me on a strict "no jiggling" exercise restriction for several weeks. I know we all want to get back to active exercises, but why take a chance on delaying healing or ruining the final aesthetic end result?
One thing my PS did encourage was walking - my guess is that your PS would be fine with that as well.

Hello and thanks for your replies! I will go to the sections you mentioned and have a look there. Yesterday I went to the gym for a short session and did some exercises for my back and legs and that went ok; exercises for the back such as "rowing" didn't involve the breast muscles at all.
See you at the "Lets Post Our Daily Exercise"-thread

Good, we will look for you there!
On kind of a 'bright side' note; I didn't have reconstructive surgery, but was really scared of using the upper body after the original surgery & during the healing time, besides walking, I concentrated solely on the abs & lower body (which I had kind of done half -heartedly before). Because of all that lower body work, I ended up going down a pants size! That was a HAPPY side effect!
