Has anyone ever had a real problem with their port?

I know I am just a ball of nerves lately, so this is probably crazy-talk, but I think there could be a problem with my port.  I had my port placed last Tuesday (April 8), and had my first chemo the very next day.  My incision is still quite sore, and even a little oozy.  I just keep it clean and use bacitracin and cover with a bandage each day.  The entire area is quite bruised and sore, but this morning I woke with a new soreness between the incision and the actual port.  Could this simply be from me sleeping on that side last night...or maybe the seam on my bra hit at about that area...or maybe the bandage adhesive was pulling too tight?  My surgeon didn't give me clear instructions, so perhaps I should call her...but maybe my oncologist is the person to call?

But my over-anxious brain is jumping to the worst case scenario...like what if something "came loose" in there?  Has anyone here ever had a real problem with their port?  It was a tough week, and I am hoping this is just normal or a passing thing.  What do you think?

Swissmiss, sorry you had a tough week and port soreness.  I had soreness for about a week or so, is the area  red?  Which would make me think infection.  When I had mine placed, the Dr who did it told me to call him if I had any problems related to my port, so maybe contact your surgeon.

You have had a medical device surgically implanted in your body. Most of the time things smoothly but it is possible to have complications. Call your surgeon!
