Hi!

After presenting with bleeding from the right nipple, u/s confirmed 3 masses thought to be papillomas. I had wire loc and lumpectomy to remove them 7 weeks ago and all margins were benign - yay! I had my last post surgical folllow up 10 days ago and was set on to a 6 month screening program so my husband and I were happy to draw a line under things and just monitor. (My mom has breast cancer so I'm in a slightly higher risk bracket). Anyway, I started bleeding again from my right nipple 5 days ago and if it is not the same duct, it is the very next closest one - has this happened any of you before? Could it be surgery related rather than another papilloma given that it is 7 weeks since my lumpectomy? I have a follow up with my surgeon next week but I have also booked a second opinion with a breast specialist near here since I just really hadn't expected another papilloma to rear its' head so soon. And I'm bummed because I had just felt like I had healed well from my surgery. Right now I have a dull burning pain, but in another part of my breast.

Has this or something similar happened to any of you who had lumpectomy to remove papillomas?

I had an ductal excision for the same thing, but in my case the discharge never stopped, so we suspected that they took out the wrong duct. However the bleeding was much worse as the areas around it healed. The second time I had a ductal excision it was wire guided. The discharge stopped immediately. Neither excision found cancer, but they did find  papillomas and ALH and ADH.

    hi Lucy!

Thanks for your reply, that's very interesting. I had the wires placed before the surgery but they had a lot if trouble getting it inserted in the sub areolar mass, which is the one I can still feel now and where the duct is bleeding.

    Thanks for the info!
