Charleston Bound, part 2

Ashira,
Steak is great protein and helpful for anemia too. I second Jesk on digestion issues. Dr Kline prescribes Rx of single serving Miralax and Rx of dolculax. He said to start Miralax 2 days prior to surgery to be proactive. It's not a clean out like colonoscopy prep so no worries about that. Oh the fun we brave BC survivors go through.
-
Ashira, I am so happy that this all worked out for you. Where are you driving from? I agree with Jeskachi go for the wine, Dr K says ok to have 1 or 2. Miralax never worked for me, I had to go straight for the fleet enema the night before! Thinking of you!
-
oh I forgot to add, listen to those tapes, I did everyday and even in pre-op, helps calms the nerves and gets you in positive state of mind during surgery which I believe is very important. I even had the anesthesiologist read affirmations to me during my surgery. I thought they might think I was crazy but were happy to do it! I also pinned a special crystal to my gown . I figured I could use all the woo/ woo I could get!
-
Got it. Done with the steak for now. I'd much prefer wine anyway -- washed down with miralax of course :-) I do have the meditations and love them. Didn't consider the possibility of crystals, though I agree, woo woo is good.
I'm just outside Atlanta and will be in Charleston by tomorrow. The drive has been pleasant for me. Leaving drama on the home front to enjoy the beautiful purple trees (cherry blossoms?) along the road and catch up with friends post chemo. I've a reservation at Hampton Isle of Palms. The pool in the pic looks beautiful. I wonder if I'll be brave enough to shed my wig in public...is it even warm enough to swim anyway?
-
Ashira,
The purple trees are Redbud (the buds are red before the purple bloom). There is much more of a show of blooms when you get to Charleston.
It's been warm there but dont know if pool is heated. Definitely warm enough to walk beach with feet in water. That is where I go to de-stress.
When is your pre op?
-
pre op is in office across from hospital. Where is your favorite beach?
-
Ashira I will text you soon. The easiest beach for you is Isle of Palms.mmstraight down the connector you will deadens at the Atlantic Ocean. Breathtaking view from the bridge.
-
Ashira, I meant to say when is your pre op? Surgery is Thursday right?
Stay calm. Go to the beach.

I have rescheduled my surgery for May. But I goofed and made reservations at the Comfort Suites instead of Homewood Suites. Has anybody stayed there?
-
WHy are we always the guinea pigs??//
-
I rescheduled my surgery for May but I goofed and made reservations at Hampton INn instead of Homewood Suites. Anybody ever stay at:
Hampton Inn Charleston/Mt. Pleasant-Patriots Point 255 Sessions Way | Mount Pleasant | SC | -
Lbrewer,
I stayed there twice. Comfort Suites on IOP connector has better location, just as nice, and only $63 night with medical discount. Stayed CS last three times.
-
lbrewer, I'm here at the Hampton Inn now. It's lovely.
-
are you at the one that's on the Isle of Palms connector? I was thinking of booking that one.
-
Yes Philomene. That's where I am. Doc appts begin tomorrow. Still seems a bit surreal. I am strangely calm about the whole thing for being 3 days away :-)
-
strange calm sounds pretty good, all things considered! Good luck tomorrow.
-
Ashira,
Hope your pre ops went well. Did you make it to the beach and to waterside restaurants?
We'll be thinking of you tomorrow! All the best!
-
Thanks Pinkie, pre-ops went great. I really do love Docs Kline and Baron. I feel like I'm in great hands and am remarkably peaceful in the moment. Had a wonderful dinner at the Boathouse on the water and a personal tour of Downtown. Saw the beach today, but didn't bring a coat so I can't walk it yet. It's really cold here. I'll check back in as soon as I'm able. It's so nice of you to ask after me :-)
-
Ashira,
Thinking of you today! Let us know how you are doing when you can.
-
comfort suites IOP is closed until June 15th all of May
-
Lbrewer,
Thanks! They said they were going to remodel. Im thinking about coming mid june.
-
Awake and on the other side. Hav'nt yet left bed. Coughing is awful. Gonna get easier, right?
-
I haven't done it so I can't say from experience, but I imagine the first few days are the hardest.
-
Philomene, you are right about that. Huge difference between now and just a few hours ago. Finally up and out of bed , enjoying dinner from my recliner. Everyone here, without exception, has been just wonderful. I haven't had the courage to look yet , but they all tell me thinks look perfect. I'm Going with that for now !
-
After having a DIEP that failed I can understand the doctors position.....i read all the posts on here about how great it is and how wonderful Dr. So and so is.....let me assure you...if the flap fails it's not great.

Ashira, so great to hear from you . Keep using the spirometer, it really helps the lungs. I'm out of town so not on here much, but know I am sending healing vibes your way!!
-
Ashira - you sound wonderful! So glad. Took me quite a few days before i really "looked".
NancyNJ - flaps do fail and are yet another loss. If this happened to you, I am terribly sorry for your loss. There are several women on this thread and the NOLA thread who have lost flaps (I know one who lost 2 before having one take). Even the very best doctors lose flaps as do the most perfect patients. Thankfully it is a very small percentage who lose flaps and a great many of those try again. Again, I am sorry for your loss.
-
Ashira,
So good to hear from you so soon and hope you continue to do well during recovery.
When do you get discharged? Did Dr Kline bring his cutie kids with him during weekend rounds?
-
discharge is planned for Tuesday. No cutie kids :-(. Apparently a patient or two complained, so he no longer brings them along very often. I'll ask him about them tomorrow. It sure is easy and comfy here in the hospital. Even though I will have a dear friend to assist me, I can't say that I'm looking forward to discharge. I feel like a little birdie readying to be coaxed out of the nest, but reticent to fly. Must be time for a nap :-). Wishing you a good day!
