Mom

Hi,

My mom had a stage 1 (7mm) tumor in her right breast. The tumor was removed with lumpectomy, but all the lymph nodes were removed. We are now waiting for the results of the test.

Understandably, we are concerned about chemo. Since it is only stage 1, and if the tumor was removed as well as the lymph nodes, do we need to undertake chemo? Can someone pls share additional insights?

When the test results are out, what all data points we need to ask if we should/should not undertake chemo? I understand that the risks/benefits should be weighed..

Appreciate your help in advance.

anil2k, in addition to the help that our community members will offer you may want to check out the link below that will take you to our website's page on Who gets Chemotherapy and perhaps offer some questions if you should need to ask them. The Moderators

Was an Oncotype test performed?  That will help provide more information as to whether chemo is needed.  It also depends on her hormone receptor status and HER2 status.  Some cancers are more aggressive and some have less treatment options so sometimes chemo is required even with early stage cancers.  Can you provide more information?
