he was waiting his turn this afternoon

Got a couple in the yard today.
-
Is that a trumpet vine?
-
Lovely Photos!!
Chilly, 40*F in the North Country. ;o)
-
Hung my feeders today. Ruby throats are in the area. Fingers crossed!
-
SoCal Lisa- Your hummer has lots of pretty green in it's feathers. I wonder if we have the same type? Mine seem to be more brown.
Thanks, Blessings and Teka. That is a honeysuckle vine. I have that orange one and a white one that the hummers love.
Good Luck, AuntieNance!

Thanks chick, it worked! Just saw the first one!
-
clickchick those are beautiful

Thanks, Lisa. I talked my husband into letting me buy my dream camera (I'm sick, remember?
and I've been putting it to use in the backyard. I'm always amazed at the number of different birds I find just sitting in my backyard. -
Do you remember what settings you used?
-
Hi Lisa-I looked up the exif info in photoshop:
Both pictures are ISO 2500, Shutter speed 1/6400, Fstop 5.6, no flash. They were both taken with a 400mm lens.
I'm using a new Canon 5D Markiii camera and I'm really just learning about all it's capable of.

Daughter would understand exactly what you just posted, not me!
-
thanks click chick I will try that..

*Happy Easter*

I just saw the first bloom of the season on our Mimosa tree. That can only mean one thing--the hummers are coming! Can't wait.
-
Can you believe I've actually taken a picture of a hummingbird peeing? I didn't realize it at the time, only when I checked the photos later. Here's one of them (I'm afraid to say I have 4 different ones)! Technically not great, but you get the idea.

AW - for those of you that followed Phoebe Hummingbird - the site is broadcasting Decorah Eagles now as the Phoebe hosts are moving out of state. Have been watching some on Bella Hummingbird also out of CA. They think she may be expecting eggs again. Waiting for chicks to fledge. But mainly addicted to my eagle cams.

Anyone else have trouble with wasps at their feeders? I have been slow to get them up and wasps just swarmed the newest feeder yest. Seems to have settled down today but still around it some. They generally ignore the oldest one. Could it be because the older one has an ant guard on it? Little hummers have plenty of food - actually pretty good wildflower year despite the drought and we had good rain (for us anyway) this past week.
Clickchick - I think they always poop leaving my feeders. Like a baby - food in, poop out.
Teka - Just love your patriotic eagle. Copied it to my Word file.
-
Yes, I've trouble with wasps every Summer!
I got the following from on-line. Has anyone tried this?

-
Thanks for the link, luvmygoats! Is that the male and female nesting together? They're adorable. Sorry, I don't have a feeder, so I'm not sure about the wasps. We get lots of bees here(and some so big I call them bird-bees), but not too many wasps.
-
Clickchick - I think long time viewers have speculated one hatchling is male and one is female. Bella the mom is visiting/feeding less trying to prod them into fledging. Papa H's do not participate in care of the young.
Teka - Thanks. I'll have to shop around for the bee guards. I can put up a wasp trap just have to find one. Can find plenty of fly traps at feed store. Will look for wasp trap in big city next week. None too fond of waspies right now. Tried to get one out of my reg. seed feeder yest and little bugger stung me. I say wasp, could be yellow jackets for all I know.
-
I saw mama feeding them this morning. That's very addictive, watching them in the nest!
