Im 26 and obese and Im not sure if I can tell if I have dense breast or not due to self exam. I made a thread a few days ago about finding two small lumps on one of my breast and two small lumps on both nipple area on both breast. I went to my regular check up at boston medical and told my doctor about those lumps. She examed them and said they maybe pimples I dont need to worry. And since I ccouldn't make a appointment to see the breast clinic. She was going to do it the next day for me and she was going to call me. I havent got that call from her the next day.  Now im aggravated because im not sure if she made the appointment.  I can never get to her when I call boston medical because supposedly shes "Always busy with other patients" Now im obese 250 pounds with a high risk of cancer and for her to tell me it may be a pimple and to not worry pissed me off. By the way she also did some research on mr google of my symptoms. Are you kidding me?? Now if I do have cancer which I think I may I want to start getting treated. I care so much about my health and im trying to lose weight. All she talked about was me gaining fucking weight. I know I gained weight since I saw her afew months ago. Im sorry for the language but im extremely pissed off.

You said you love your doctor in your first posts. Sometimes they have to wait for someone to call them back too.

The fact that you feel multiple lumps makes it much more likely you have benign fibrocystic breasts just like 60% of women do.

Based on your mother having a noncancerous stomach tumor & fibroids I don't understand why you are reposting this in the "high risk" forum, as that does not put you at high risk.

People can follow your history & what is going on to support you better if you stick with your initial thread so it is all in one place I had to go back & find your other posts to see what you are talking about.

    How high is 'high risk'?

Weight is not a factor in the modified Gail model. http://www.cancer.gov/bcrisktool/  . Now, probably they didn't know about obesity as a risk factor when the Gail model was formulated.

Breast cancer risk was 55% greater in obese women older than 60 compared to younger women.

    http://www.breastcancer.org/research-news/20111206

Now, in the general population, breast cancer is diagnosed in about 1 out of 8 women during their lifetime (about 12%).  Do all obese women get breast cancer?  No, of course not.  Roughly, roughly, even if you take this 13% and multiply it by 1.55 you get about 20%, or about 1 in 5.  This is an overestimate because about half of breast cancers occur in women younger than 60.  I don't know what the numbers are for women younger than 60, but it sounds like its not 55%.

But, about 1/3 of the US population is considered obese. http://www.cdc.gov/obesity/data/adult.html Has the breast cancer incidence gone up?

Breast cancer incidence rates in the U.S. began decreasing in the year
2000, after increasing for the previous two decades. They dropped by 7%
    from 2002 to 2003 alone.
    http://www.breastcancer.org/symptoms/understand_bc...

Now, of course, breast cancer incidence might increase in the obese population, and some other factor might decrease the incidence even more.  But you'd think if 1/3 of the population has a risk factor for something that was significantly high, then that might increase, not decrease, the breast cancer incidence.

I'm not a statistician, and these numbers are quite rough anyways.  Maybe my logic and methods aren't very good.  But if you are in your 20s, then obesity alone may not be as big a risk factor as you think it is.  Its so easy to go to the 'worst case scenario', and its easy to be angry when you have all this uncertainty.
