So...whats for dinner?

Royal reds are a delicious shrimp variety caught in very deep cold water. Very popular in gulf shores and other coastal areas.
-
sigh. Now I have to Google Royal Reds..... LOL
-
Carole - enjoy the sweet time with your friend. Have a safe trip and hope the RV behaves for you. Shakedown for summer trip?
Woke up to no electricity this am on a beautiful sunny morn. DH heard the transformer blow. Told me to get myself up if I wanted coffee while it was still hot. Co-op elec. is very responsive. Back on by 9:10 but neighbor not so lucky. Had to replace her transformer. When elec. came back on 1st thing I did was put coffee back in micro.
Plenty of ribs leftover. DH loved the Spanish rice - a Mahatma mix from pantry that called for 1 TBS ketchup instead I used sofrito. I found a jar stashed in pantry I had forgotten about. Will have that tonight with the carrots I never got around to.
Laurie - so glad you have family nearby. Bet the boys will return to their beds when DH gets home. They're old enough to understand special circumstances. Frozen ravioli sounds perfectly kid pleasing.
Lacey - so funny about your DH. Mine wouldn't know maybe unless his jeans fit a little looser but doubt he would even notice. He weighs only when at doctor. But then he's a bean pole anyway. And I agree Royal Reds sound like apples or a baseball team (if you didn't know they were food).
SpecialK - how are things now? Haven't heard from you in a bit.
-
Sorry to have been MIA - having a rather terrible allergic reaction to the tegaderm from last Friday's return visit to the OR. I am medicating around the clock with Atarax and it makes me sleepy, so at least I am asleep and not aware of how itchy I am!. I have a blistered rash on approximately 25% of me. Even the places that the EKG leads were attached are blistered. The upside - my stitches are holding so far - so the repair is working - I am even willing to endure this rash if the fix works. Needless to say, I have not been cooking, lol! I feel a smidge better this afternoon and took a peppered pork tenderloin out of the freezer, will also have chipotle mashed potatoes (a mix) and some roasted asparagus.
-
specialk thats horrible! Not what you needed. I reacted to the Tegaderm when I had to keep my port accessed fir 3 weeks. By the 2nd time they changed the needle and redressed it I was ripping the thing off at night. I had to put ice on it. Went back and they re accessed it and put a barrier cream on it that helped but I don't want to go through that again. So use ice if it helps. I hope something does.
-
moon - I know that you know - my PS took a calculated risk and put tegaderm over the areas he stitched, but I wish I had taken a picture of his expression yesterday when I opened the gown. He was horrified. Happy with the repairs but horrified at what had happened. This is such a severe reaction that I have edema under the rash areas - I can feel my skin bounce when I walk and I have a roll of flesh hanging over the left side of my waistband. It is going to be a while until things calm down, I think.
-
Special, you are amazingly and gracefully enduring with all you have and are going through! Heal fast!

-
Oh my goodness Special - what a horrible reaction. I too have a problem w/tapes & adhesives so I can certainly relate. If they even think about using anything but Medipore or Hypafix, I jump up & down and scream. The funny part is I usually have to take my own tape. Are you using steroids on the rash? Thank heavens the stitches are holding. Hugs - gently & only where there's no rash.
-
Laurie- Sorry your having to go through more than you should, not only MIL being sick and DH being gone but the kids being sick. You must be exhausted. One thing about childhood asthma is they usually outgrow it. ( I hope)
Carole- Sorry about your friend, glad you get spend some nice relaxing time with her on your vacation. Hope you have a nice time. Safe travels!
Bedo- Had to chuckle at the jimmy steward crush. Haha! I always thought he was cute too. Hope this guy turns out to be the man of your dreams (who knows) when you least expect it....Your dinner sounded yummy!
SpecialK- Oh my gosh, that sounds horrible, hope it all heals quickly!
Lacey-You always have the right advice for everyone! :-))
Have a question for you all..
So most of you know I go to rehab therapy for my lungs, The lung therapist name is Will, I always liked him, nice guy kind of weird but nice, The room where we do the exercises is small with only about 12 different machines and usually about 7 or 8 of us in a class, there is a small room connected where a nurse sits so she she can monitor us while we exercise, she takes our BP and checks our o2 levels- a couple of weeks ago when I went there I had asked Will a question about my 02 while I sleep telling him how I didn't sleep well and was worried that it would go either to high or too low, so he said lets go talk, usually when he talks to some one he talks right there or just outside the door in the hallway where there are chairs, but he took me out the room down the hall and about 4 rooms down and shut the door. I didn't think any thing about it because well, Look at me, here I am with a hose in my nose, one breast part of my lung missing bottom dentures LOL!( I have to laugh at myself) anyway.. I am not the most desirable women on the planet right now, oh and not to mention the 40 pounds I have gained since being on steroids. Ok, getting to the point. So, we go sit down and we are discussing my problem and he said something about the blood gasses which they take in the wrist ( I have had that done and it hurts) and while he is stroking my wrist with his finger to show me where he does the blood gases he also says I have taken blood there pointing to my wrist and here, Pointing to my neck and here, he took his finger and shoved it way inside my groin area, pretty much next to my who-ha! Not kidding!! I was so shocked and could still feel the finger poke for hours afterwards it left such sensation because he did it hard. I don't really remember our conversation after that because I was in shock I think, after that I made an excuse how I had to leave early for a dr app. When I got in the car I never told my DH because I was imbarrassed but also knew he might go in there and beat the crap out of him, I told my Girlfriend that night, I had been making excuses why I didn't go to my rehab classes to DH but most of the time he had Dr. app so had to cancel anyway. Well I finally told him the other night and he wants to let them know how inappropiate he was, but I don't want to do that, I keep thinking maybe it was all innocent and he wasn't being sexual at all, but in my mind I know that that probably is not true, I don't think he even has a license to draw blood, being a physical therapist so he wouldn't of taken blood gasses at any time from anyone. He called my house today and left a message asking if I was coming back and that he missed me and if I wasn't coming back to let him know so he could put some one else in my place. So, I wonder if I should call him and tell him how I felt he was out of line, or if I should call the hospital and file a complaint or just let it go?? I have no proof or what he did or that it was a sexual thing or not on his part. Sad thing is now I don't go to my rehab any more. Sorry for making this so long but really wanted your imput, you all always have the right things to say and it would help me a lot. Thanks for listening!!
Hi to every one I missed!
-
Lacey - thanks - I am taking it easy.
Minus - just Benadryl cream - the rash is too close to the stitches to use topical steroids. I just have to wait it out with that and the Atarax. It is interesting that the surgery I had on 3/7 I had no problem with the sticky EKG leads and the tegaderm over the IV. Because I am reactive with this rash all of those areas developed rashes too. I'm a bit nervous about the rash on the underside of my right arm (surgery was on the left) because I already have lymphedema in that arm - I don't need additional issues with that arm.
-
Special K, I am sorry to hear about even more problems. I agree with the risks of topical steroids as they can impact on wound healing and infections. Cool showers, drugs and rest!
Debbie, that is so so inappropriate and wrong. I would definately call the hospital and complain. You also need to think that he has probably done similar things to other patients and will continue to behave I appropriately until it us addressed. You poor thing. But you don't want to let your rehab/therapy suffer because of him. (Also blood gases are nearly always drawn from the wrist so there was no need for him to touch your groin)
Good luck!
-
Sk, another tape allergy here. Created all kinds of nasty wounds after radiation. I had brachytherapy so had to have tape holding the catheter in place for ten days. What a mess, that took a long time to heal.
Debbie, that's awful! You definitely should tell someone about it, especially since it made you uncomfortable enough that you don't want to go back to your rehab. Yike!
-
Debbie - Sounds like you thought he was a good therapist before this happened. It just doesn't make sense. I'd probably call him back and tell him you were uncomfortable w/his touchy behavior & thought it was inappropriate and you are still not sure how to respond. Whatever he says will give you a clue whether it might be something you want to just forget or whether you should report it to the hospital. In any case it doesn't sound like you'll be comfortable with him again. Do they have another therapist? Or is there another center you can go to? You sure don't want to stop treatment.
-
Debbie
Call, or better yet speak in person to the Dr. in charge of your care, I'm assuming the Pulmonologist.
Tell him what happened.
It doesn't matter whether it was right or wrong, you are nuts, (you're not) or he is (who knows?) the point is that it made you uncomfortable.
It needs to be addressed in order for you to continue your care.
Please don't give up going
-
Debbie, I agree with Minus that you should call him back and let him know about your discomfort with the interaction in your last session, and see how he handles it to decide whether a complaint is in order. But most importantly YOU need to find a way to continue your treatments, whether it can be there or somewhere else. It was certainly an odd and uncomfortable situation, that I'm sorry you had to experience. Another idea is whether there is any kind of ombudsman (or ombudswoman!) at the hospital (like a patient rep or a social worker...not connected to the PT dept) who could listen to your story and help you sort out the best path for you to pursue. Please let us know how this works out...and good luck! I'm curious to check on google about how else blood gas is done besides on the inside of the wrist. I have had that done in the past....and woweeee (!!) the pain!
-
I can see both ways Debbie but agree that it would be a shame that this interferes with you pulmo class. Guess it comes down to which you could pull off. Not sure I would be gutsy enough to call him out but I do know I'm much better at that stuff on the phone.
Lacey - It can be done in the groin but wrist is the much more common area. Respiratory therapists used to draw it in my hospital, unless pt had a central line of some sort. Held plenty of pts for them to draw. I bet I've only seen groin used maybe 2 times (but then I wasn't fond of hospital nursing).
SpecialK - gee sorry for all the tape miseries. Just so long as your healing well. And agree about the beneficial side effects of itch medicine.
-
Debbie. Definitely either call the doctor or the hospital to make a complaint. If you feel you can handle it talk to him. But if it bothered you you need to do something. If you can't bring yourself to do anything go to the class and never be alone with him again. But don't hurt yourself cause he's a jerk. If you see him pull someone else out you will know what's going on and you can join them to prevent it. And Deb we know you are a lovely person but he does need to keep his hands to himself. When i was a teenager i had a boss who did stuff like that. I was like whats he doing- in shock. Much love.
-
Thanks everyone for your advice, It really helped me to decide on what I should do next. I think maybe I will call him, I am a little more gutsy on the phone too )ha- and see what his reaction is, but knowing no matter what he says he had no right to touch me there and because of him I do not feel comfortable going back there. I did google it and like some of you said that although it is not uncommon to take it from the groin it is most always done on the wrist. I will let you know how my conversation goes tomorrow. I don't think there are any more classes being offered other than the ones I go to. I did do a half mile on the treadmill tonight so I will keep it up and do what I have to do to get better.
Bedo- Yes, I can be nuts lol!
Monica- Sorry you had a not so pleasant experience before.
-
Debbie. Even if Will meant no harm, I think he messed up multiple ways and should be "counseled" (groweled at) by his supervisors. *IF* what he did was necessary, he should have asked permission first and explained why it was necessary to do that, given you an opportunity to have someone else (female, if that was your preference) do that, and likely have someone else there with the two of you.
Eric
-
Very good points, Eric.
Debbie, glad to hear that you are able to use the treadmill!
-
I've been thinking about my garden. I want these. It's time to plant beets, spinach, and kale! These pictures come from lifehacker.com eggs in onion rings and sliced peppers
Well, now that it's almost three, I WILL walk the dog and practice for 1/2 hour
-
Bedo! Those look great. Why am I suddenly so hungry for eggs? LOL
Debbie I am glad you decided what to do. That always makes a person feel better. As for my little experience it was a long time ago. About 45 years or so! LOL. I was 14 at my first job.
-
Tonight is rib eye strips marinated in olive oil, rosemary and garlic, brown rice casserole with broccoli and cheese and a small salad.
When I was in college, I was propositioned by one of the doctors in Health Services (gynecologist). Freaked me out big time. I have mostly women docs now. Not that I haven't had or don't have a couple of male docs that I like, but given the choice, I like lady docs for lots of reasons.
In other news, I'm finding Windows 8.1 to be an alien being. I hate it. Have I said that already? I've been saying it a lot (muffled scream :-O Not only that, but I've never used a laptop and now I have to get used to that. Blech!
-
Nance, I too am annoyed with Windows 8.1. I suppose I'll get used to it, but in the mean time......
Bedo, those eggs look neat. If I had seen that earlier, I would have tried it tonight. Dinner was bacon and eggs with some salsa on the eggs.
Eric
-
Eric, I don't even know why they call it windows. There aren't any.
-
I just read that you can continue to run XP through Windows 8. I'm not clever enough to figure it out, but thought it interesting for those of you who hate 8. Thanks heavens I went (kicking & screaming) to Windows 7 a couple of years ago so I don't have to deal with 8. Can you tell I don't like change?
Going to a nurse friend's retirement party this afternoon at one of the major Med Center hospitals. She's been there for 43 years. I'm hoping there will be lots of yummy nibbles to I don't have to deal w/dinner later.
-
Minus, this is a new computer with 8.1 pre-installed. I went from xp on the old pc straight to this. I wish I had Windows 7 instead. I loved xp. I don't think you can run xp but supposedly you can configure 8 to look like Windows 7 (which looks and acts like xp I understand.) I haven't figured that one out yet.
-
Hear you Minus Two. One of the 1st ?? I asked DH was do we have XP. Used to on old one but now have Windows 7 on both. Hope they continue support for it for a longgg time. I'm with you Nancy I am not a laptop user. I have used DH's when it storms mostly to track storms badly like last May but I really don't like it. It has a wireless mouse so don't have to use touchpad which I really, really don't like.
I am still working slowly at cleaning out pantry. Another pkg of beans "white rice beans". Has recipe for stuffed tomatoes which magically are going to become stuffed peppers since DH wouldn't eat a stuffed tomato. I would and would prefer it over the peppers. Hmm maybe make a combo. Colored peppers on sale this week. But it will only take about 1/3 of pkg. But company has a nice website and an OK newsletter. One has recipe for farro which I have here somewhere. Looks like I may have bought at Central Mkt. but I kinda thought it came from a health food store.
I think tonight is the stuffed shells finally; bought the parsley the other day. Having car windshield replaced tomorrow pm so will probably make quick/easy Wolf Chili enchiladas. I have a partial 4 cup pkg of Mex. cheese and another full one unopened. I think that should be enough for enchiladas. A bit may find their way into the shells. My lunch contribution to camping was a taco bar but I overdid the cheese. I used to do cold cut sandwiches which was outrageously expensive. Tried this last fall and all thought it good. I stock up on ground beef on sale. Precook taco meat and freeze then heat in covered pan in oven.
Debbie - I hope your talk with your resp. guy goes well and he gets his inappropriateness. One thing to describe ABGs in the groin, another to demo it. Geesh. I always found if I wrote a script or talking points for the phone I did better. Organized my thoughts at least to break into a difficult conversation.
Minus Two - hope you have good noshes at party. I had bowl of cereal early yest. then went to church meeting with finger foods.
-
OK Nance, so when I saw this in a pinterest message, I thought of you and that it might give you a pleasant break from your tech pain.

Looks so delish!
Meanwhile, I was going to keep this to myself, but it turns out that the intense allergy testing I have been undergoing to try to control the insane itching I have been enduring, has resulted (so far....more next week) in learning that I not only have so many indoor environmental allergies that, I will be spending a fortune wrapping everything in our bedroom in expensive mite protecting covers, getting hepa filters, etc, but also, I may as well don some bunny ears and a mask and spend all my time munching on fresh greens in the garden! I am stunned at the things one has to eliminate to avoid molds.....including any vinegar products, mushrooms (duhhhh), cheese, soy products, alcohol, "leftovers!" ......and on and on. I am horrified and saddened at the monent...and cannot imagine how I can keep my "healthy diet" going by eliminating yet more foods. On Monday I get to learn what specific food items I am allergic to. Can't wait!
-
Lacey HUGS!! Here's to hoping that you learn some of that can be reintroduced at some point.
LMG a taco bar is a good fun thing to do. For family get of ethers we've done it. I use the leftover meat in chili if I have a lot. And sometimes I make a big pot of chili. But i make it to the point before I add tomato juice and water. Then I bag it up. Wherever I go, I only add the liquid ingredients when we get there. Helps to keep it from sloshing all over. It's thick like a dryer sloppy Joe til I add the V8 juice to thin it out. I use V8 to add flavor.
