Bilateral Mastectomy in 2009 - Lump on Non-Cancer Side

Options

I had bilateral mastectomy in 2009. After reconstruction was all finished I noticed near the area where my nipple was reconstructed that there was a flat hard spot. We never thought anything of it thinking it was just scar tissue. A couple weeks ago the area felt larger and more like a lump instead of feeling flat. I saw my breast surgeon yesterday and he sent me to get an Ultrasound. The radiologist said the lump I felt was not a mass and it was subcutaneous. Not sure what "IT" is but it feels like a lump. Anyhow, the radiologist seemed to act like it was nothing and I don't think he is recommending biopsy/excision. Waiting on my breast surgeon to call me. I feel uneasy.. I don't know if I should insist on having a biopsy if this thing isn't a mass. I still feel a lump. Has anyone gone through something similar?

Hiyasminv1 - I haven't had your particular problem. I would just advise you to monitor the area for changes. If it is anything to worry about, you will know soon enough. This is a tough journey we are all on but just remain vigilant. If you feel the 'lump' is changing / growing in size, get back to your surgeon. All the best to you! Karen.

Hi Karen 3...just wanted to say I am glad to see you moving beyond cancer. I too, was diagnosed as TN IDC and was scared to death. It is so encouraging to see that you are doing fine and I just wanted you to know that.

just an update. My breast surgeon wants to watch this lump and thinks it is fatty tissue but he acts like he may not be 100% sure. He suggested I see my plastic surgeon to see if he has ever seen a situation like mine. I'll see him in a couple weeks to see what his thoughts are.  I also see my oncologist this month so I will get his opinion too. We will see if we leave it alone or excise it.
