i had DCIS and had mastectomy with tramflap in 2011, everything been wrong, had hematoma and a large necrosis, my Dr has told me they don't do mammograms on mastectomy but how do they know its OK?  My tumor was 6inches and on chest wall so no lumps would have been felt, how do I know its not reoccurring?  Or am I worrying for nothing!

Help, if you had your breast removed, then the ducts were taken with the tissue. DCIS grows in the ducts and becomes IDC when it breaks through. If you have no ducts for it to grow back in, then you can't get it again. You might, however, get a new primary in any remaining breast tissue or if you had a nipple-sparing surgery. If you get any suspicious lumps you should bring them to the attention of your PCP. If your doctor feels anything unusual you would get an ultrasound. Are you being followed by an oncologist?

no, I'm not being followed up so I'm presuming everything must be OK.  I suppose I was just concerned not having mammogram as that's how they found it in first place, no lumps, no symptoms, just first mammogram and there it was attached to chest wall!

Help, now it's your turn to be your own advocate then. Breast cancer won't grow if there is no breast tissue unless it has metastasised so you just need to keep doing your own breast exams every month. If you find something you don't like, then bring it to the attention of your doctor. I haven't had a doctor even look at my scarline (double mast) in about 3 years but I don't worry as I know the area well enough that if there were any changes I'd see them.

Good luck, sweetie, I hope someone else comes on to give you more input.
