Hello,

I will be meeting with the GC this thursday for the first time, she mentioned that first I will watch a 20 minutes video, then have my blood drawn and then we will talk.

What questions would you ask on your first appointment?

I just had a biopsy done due to suspicious microcalcifications and result came back negative; BS surgeon wants to proceed with MRI in two months and BRCA testing due to family history (2 cousins diagnosed mid 40's, one early 50's, grandma died at 47, two aunts diagnosed late 40's and one diagnosed early 50. All BC.  Dad died of Colon cancer and one cousing was diagnosed with CC at age 47.  I also have a sister that I've lost contact with and I have no way to know if she's been diagnosed and that I also have a ashkenazi jewish background. )

Any advise would be appreciate it.

Thank you,

I didn't ask much at my genetic counseling appointment.  I had filled out a long packet of family history type information, and then I basically answered her questions.  Then we discussed my situation, talked about possible strategies, etc.  The only question I really had going in there was "how high is my risk of getting breast cancer", and that was answered for me.

Good luck.  It's really interesting stuff. Happy

Mine too sent me a chart to fill out before my appointment, then she asked me lots of questions, then she discussed with me what she thought and what testing she thought there was a reasonable possibly of doing that might come back positive and explained those genetic syndromes to me.
