Stitching the pieces together

Barbe, you're right! I looked at a scrap from that one and "Debbie Mumm For SSI" is printed on the selvage! You guys are amazing!
-
Been gone a few weeks (seems like ages) but think I'll just jump in here rather than read everything right now. I suppose someone has already beat me to Smartie's although I am probably the closest.
DH bought me a little embroidery machine, like my Mom's, for my birthday Saturday. Such a surprise. I have only done a couple of t-shirts for my little Patch. Funny thing though, I took all my embroidery thread to my mom's so now I don't have anything to work with!
I did sew a "Bikini" for Lala for her first birthday in April. It's a vintage pattern and so adorable! I just need to put hook and eyes in the back and then adjust the elastic when we get there.
It feels good to create right now.
-
My birthday present from my DD. Pictures of the quilt I made her when she was little and of the one I made last year..
-
Wow Aly! What a wonderful gift and a great idea!
Meece that bikini sounds adorable! pics please!
-
Alyson, couldn't figure out what I was looking at on FB so THRILLED to see what it really is. What a GREAT gift from your DD!!!
Meece, describe "little" embroidery machine. Have they gotten smaller....cheaper???
-
Yes, cheaper.
It's a Brother HE1. Only does 4 x 4, but it's great for what I use it for right now.
-
So LindaLou, must just say....your purple quilt is fantastically beautiful!
-
Went to work on another t shirt for Patch and had a melt down when the needle broke. I decided that I should not try to sew tonight.
-
ok Meece, just breath, it's only a needle. Have a good cup of whatever your favorite thing is. There's always tomorrow to work on it. I've been trying for 2 days to make myself work on the dresses I have to finish. Yeck!
-
LindaLou - your quilt is stunning - I love the colors, the variety, and the intricacy!!!
Oh, Meece, I've done the same thing. Breaking threads have brought me to tears, and I once threw a walking foot all the way across the room when it kept messing up. I am a total disaster when things like that happen, so needless to say, sewing and quilting does NOT relax me. When things are going well, I'm sooooo happy! If not, DH runs the other way.
-
Sometimes I think things happen just to warn you that this isn't the right day to be sewing. Kind of like the iron workers in New York who just say it's not a good day to be on the building and they all leave. I'm the kind who will keep trying and getting madder until it gets ruined.
-
i've learned to stop sewing when I catch myself pitching a fit. It only goes downhill from there if I don't.
I don't know what happened to my post a day or two ago...
LindaLou, your quilt is gorgeous. I started quilting about a year ago and I am humbled by your skill.
Yorkie, love the stockings.
-
The past week have been so emotional. A friend warned us that we would not be in the same place at the same time, so DH kind of understood why I left my new toy and he didn't try to push me to go back.
Here is the bikini:
-
Oh Meece, that is just sooooo cute and I can just see a little one running on the beach with those frills bouncing! The pattern sure does bring back memories......gorgeous!!!
-
-
And Patch's Shirts
-
Oh I love the Simplicity patterns! They are all I used to use, the easiest to follow and the easiest to alter! I had a habit of finding that I like this from one pattern and that from another so was always mixing and matching to get truly unique clothing for myself and my kids..........mind you, DH was not averse to me making his stage clothes for him either (he used to play in a band). At one point I make satin pants and shirts for all the band members! We were much younger, slimmer and come to think on it, crazier way back then.......hahahaha!
-
Those little shirts are the ants pants as we say here! The best part is that no one will have the same.
-
For those of you who sew for little ones, especially girls, Chadwicks Heirlooms has tons of smocking, embroidery & trims & fabrics.
-
Those baby clothes are just adorable Meece!!
-
Meece - ADORABLE!!!
-
Love that bathing suit! Adorable!
You all are so inspiring!!
-
Thought it odd to see the MODS drop in on stitching-so had to look. Nosey. LOL
You all are so creative. But when I clicked it brought me to the page that described the 1949 woman. LOL from your responses and memories. It was several pages back.
What might be fun for some of you, is to look back at your old books...housekeeping, cook books, How to be the --whatever. I used to read old cook books for fun. My Sil thought it odd , but she found in the Wall Street Journal(10 years+) a cook book that sold for 50-60 thousand.
Old housekeeping books were found by historians to have great value in describing everyday life. Up until this recognition, histories contained basically political, war, conquest, trouble etc. Man oriented. Hah----how did they survive.
At some point in the last 20 years, by whom I don't know, it was recognized that little was known about every day life. My reaction was----cool. Hey, the people that kept life working were finally getting their due.
So, look at your collections of old books and see what the bring on ABE SILVERMANS web site. L&H&P's sassy

The swimsuit is just like the one I had at that age.
I have a.1850's or '60's cookbook--- Miss Leslie's, and an English one of the same vintage called Inquire Within On Everything. Both are about half cookbook and half housekeeping tips. I also have a1950's vintage cookbook that cites Miss Leslie and an Agatha Christie mystery that quotes Inquire.
I have somewhere 800 and 10,000 cookbooks. I've read at least part of most of them. It is interesting to see how often an author cites another famous cook. Most often quoted is James Beard.
-
chabba, I'm going to call you on that 10,000 figure!!! If you had 10,000 books you wouldn't say 800 to 10,000, you'd say 8,000 to 10,000, so I'm going to guess you have 1,000 cook books. Right?
LOVE the swim suit colours too!!!!!!
As for houseworking tip books, that made me remember one I found at my grandmothers house probably 50 years ago. Of course I looked up the "relation" section and found out that we are supposed to "lie back with our knees bent up and try to relax". OMG what my brain did with that info!!!!
-
You're right Barb. Thanks!
-
looks like no ones been busy? I finally have 2 bridesmaids dresses done. Yeah! 1 to modify and 1 left to start but not until the end of April since she pregnant.
-
Yay Smaarty! I've been busy going back and forth to the city and still working on the blanket. I still have many more hexagons to add.
I sat down and did these yesterday for a friend of my DD. She hates the plain white booties and she likes the boot style so I said I would make some for her. This is the first pair.
-
chrissy, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the blue with the snowflakes!! How very clever of you!!! And those booties are to die for.....!!
-
the booties are SO cute!
