Interesting, I've had the bowl for a good while, I'll have to check it out. It would be worth investing in a microwave safe one just for that purpose.

Nancy, the glass bowl does get very hot, which is probably part of the reason the kernals pop open!  I should have mentioned to be careful in handling it.  There's nothing wrong with your pyrex bowl.  Mine is new.

I was down another 2.4 lbs this morning for a total of 8.2 lbs!  Yay!  Yes, I'm back to "no pay" status!  Of course, I was recognized at the meeting and everybody clapped for me.  The meetings are a lot of fun.  One young woman with baby in arms today made the funniest confession.  She's afraid her dh will lose more weight than she loses.  He's eating the same foods that she prepares for herself.  So she puts extra butter on his!  Is that not hilarious?  She giggled and said, "He says 'this food is pretty good.'"

Other good news....  I aced my labs!  Everything was good.  Cholesterol, tryglycerides, sugar, thyroid.  It all goes to show that the ww eating program is healthy.  The improvement from 4 mos. ago was remarkable.

I really like the dry limas.  Of course, I usually sprinkle some Louisiana hot sauce on my beans and rice, and the sausage is spicy.  But I like most beans and dh likes to cook them.  So that's a win-win!

Nancy, anything cooked with smoked ham hocks is good!

    carole - yay!

Have not posted much about dinners lately because I have been making soft food for the DH and his poor mouth.  Tonight was broccoli, red potatoes with butter and parsley and some mustard glazed Tilapia.  All worked well for him because it was basically soft, but still yummy.  I had a salad earlier, so did not eat tonight.

Yay Carole! And that mom from your meeting might just get have to get used to DH  losing faster than she. Men typically have faster metabolisms and do lose quickly. Since we 've been on our  fitness plan, DH has not lowered his calories near as much as I have and he is losing away! I have just decided to be happy with my progress and enjoy his also. He has a physical today and he pointed out his weight loss to his doc...to which the doc replied...."oh, I thought the assistant wrote it incorrectly". Glad my doc never said such a thing!

Today we bought kernels to pop....I will check my pyrex bowls carefully....may even get a new one. I hate glass accidents!

I have to weigh in on lima beans. My mother always served them, and it was the one thing that I could absolutely not get past my teeth. I think the dense, mealy texture or something. As an adult I have never prepared them and probably will never.....but kale.....now there's another story ;)

Tonight's baked chicken breasts with pesto, marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese was delicious. Easy, fast and tasty! I made a spinach salad to go with it....always gotta get those greens in! :)

More on Limas - My Dad loved succotash - limas & corn - but I never warmed up to limas.  I served them occasionally but always found them dry.  Maybe Lacey's description of dense & mealy is better. There are so many veggies available now that I don't feel obligated to cook things I never cared for.  Sorry to day even though I now live it the South that this includes okra & eggplant.

Oh my goodness.  I was not hungry and now I am!  Lacey how did the pesto chicken turn out?  YOu had me drooling over the mushrooms than you threw that in there!

Carol- Congrats on the weight loss!  You should feel so proud!

Deb- I am glad you are back home, I hope you are feeling better.

    Joyce- How is your Mom?

    Debbie- How are you feeling?

So---we are up north staying right on the mountain.  The boys have all been skiing the last two days.  The kids are loving the indoor pools and hot tubs.  My brother and his girlfriend were up for a couple nights and went home this evening.  Everyone has been having a great time and we have all been sharing the cooking and cleaning.

My brothers girlfriend made chicken picatta the first night- it was excellent.  She also made breakfast Sunday morning, pancakes, scrambled eggs and home fries.  I cooked dinner Sunday and did an eye of the round roast and it was delish.  This morning Dh made a big bacon and egg breakfast and tonight was chicken parm.  The rule is if you don't cook you clean or deal with my kids  :)

Tomorrow Dh has to work and I have a girlfriend coming up with her boys to spend the night.  No idea what tomorrow's dinner will be?

It was wonderful spending time with family and relaxing.  The boys have been great and were soooo tired tonight. Lots more fun to come.

Sorry for anyone I missed!  Welcome to the new people!  I hope everyone had a great day.

Laurie, sounds like your ski trip is going great. Loved the pix of fun uncle and his cute nephews!

The pesto chicken parm is definitely worth making....and really easy if you have pesto already made.I used  some arugula pesto that I made last week...which, by the way is quite tasty. I just love being able to make pesto with all those crazy greens I buy.

Enjoy the rest of your trip....love Loon Mtn! :)

I know I will feel a bit at loose ends for a while. On Sunday I'm going to revert to what I did on Sunday's before I started at the Center. I met the founders at church and told them I had retired. On the first Saturday  in1994 Glen called me and asked me to help on opening day so I said yes. I have not been back since. I've always felt that my service there was my way of serving God because I was serving the needy by feeding them, helping to provide a friendly place for the lonely to socialize and make friends. So Sunday I'm going back to church. I may  eventually even stop by the Center for breakfast first.

Chabba - So glad that you weren't affected by the landslide in WA.  If I remember, you're in Washington but on the coast?  Glad you've already found a new outlet.   What a shock that must have been.

Laurie - Sounds like a fun trip.  Glad you're having a wonderful time.

Hugs to everyone else who needs a little extra.

Chabba-Sorry to hear that the place you loved and worked at for years has changed which made it hard for you to stay. But you know what they say, one door closes and another one opens, and that is exactly what happened for you. I'[m glad you found something right away to keep you busy and your mind off of things that get you in a funk.

Laurie-So good to hear that you are having a blast.Hope you are getting lots of rest and feeling better.  Great idea about who does not clean takes care of the kids lol! Keep us posted on all your fun!

Carole- Congrats on the continued weight loss. And on all your tests as well. Laughed at the lady who put extra butter in her DH meal. LOL!

Lacey- Your chicken pesto sounds good, I have left over pesto in the fridge, (store bought) I will have to cook my chicken in the next couple of days so I can use it up thanks for the great idea!

Since we touched on skiing and lima beans I will also weigh in on that. Years ago a bunch of us went skiing and stayed in a lodge together, we made a ham hock with lima beans to let cook all night while we slept, Even though I did not like lima beans at all, I would wake up in the middle of the night and check on it, stir it, and season it then go back to bed, by morning time we discussed the soup and all 4 of us women got up in the middle of the night, stired and seasoned it and went back to bed. It was the best soup ever and now I love Lima beans but nothing has come close to that one we made years ago. LOL!

Made chili for dinner tonight, I wanted tacos and DH can't have the shells so I will make me some fried taco shells and put the chili in them. It is yummy that way!

Thinking of you all. Big Hugs!

    Debbie, cute lima bean story!

Today I had lunch with a neighbor I hardly ever see. She still works....was dxd with bc two years before me, same dx and we  get our BC treatment at the same  local hospital that I do....so we discuss our common issue sometimes. She was switched from Tamox to AIs over a year ago (and has gained tons of weight, and has terrible hand and muscle pain) and I wanted to talk with her about my possible resistance to any more meds...or at least to an AI given my already arthritic hands. As one might imagine, I resolved nothing for myself. :/ My neighor has one year to go. So happy for her!

For lunch I tried fried pickles for the first time. She is a southerner and almost leapt up when she saw fried pickles on the menu. Glad I know what they taste like now, but probably would not waste the fried food calories again! My main meal was a turkey BLT and greek salad...both good.

Tonight I had some cabbage soup to make up for the higher calorie lunch. :) Also took a nice long walk before dinner.....but jeeze.....would the cold please leave!  I piled on four layers, neck warmer, hat and gloves...and I walked so fast for forty minutes that I was finally toasty by the time I got home. Hopefully tomorrow will be our last snowstorm!

Off to do some sewing since my brain is back to working for these weeks I'm off the Tamox.

Hugs and good meals to all.......

Debnie, you inspired me. Just finished a big pot of chili. I'll have to freeze most of it. My DH can take it back with him when he comes in 2 weeks. Otherwise it would make sick of chili! I have just can't seem to make it in a small batch.

I made the veggie lasagna tonight (leeks, asparagus, artichoke hearts) and it was delicious.  But quite a lot of work.  I pressed dh into service as sous chef.  The recipe didn't call for wheat lasagna noodles but I used them.  I'm developing a taste for the wheat pasta.  It's a pretty dish.  I took a picture with my cell phone and will try to post it on another day.

I poached chicken breasts this afternoon for chicken salad but was too tired to make it after cooking dinner and cleaning up.  I also have some containers of broth for the freezer.

Laurie, glad you're having a great time in the mountains.

I will be glad to be going to church again. I know the pastor slightly. He always comes to the Center Christmas dinner. Also a few years ago I was part of a group that put on a festival celebrating our differences, not just ethnic but sexual preferences. The pastor was originally part of the planning group but dropped out when he found out  the last were recognized. I hope he leaves his prejudices out of the sanctuary. My friend and partner in cooking at the Center is gay.  He is like a son to me. We have worked together five years. His mother died the week after he started volunteering and we bonded.   I was never able to have kids and he now had no mother. For T's sake and that of all of the gay and lesbian friends I've had over the years I can't sit and listen to gay bashing.

Chabba, I hope you find that inclusiveness has found its way to the sanctuary during your absence. How lovely for your cooking partner to have you enter his life at such a critical time...and for you too.

Looking forward to seeing a pic of your veggie lasagna, Carole. It sounds delicious!

Moon, I know what you mean about making large amts of chili. Your DH will be a very happy beneficiary, I'm sure!

Well I was wondering where everyone was when I discovered, once again, I unsubscribed myself. Sheesh!

Chabba, I really hope you find something that replaces your work at the center. What a good friend you are.

Laurie, sounds like you're having a grand time!

Monica, I think it's some kind of rule that chili has to be made in large quantities.

Yesterday I made two loaves of cinnamon bread, one for the freezer. Today is sandwich bread. Tonight's dinner is unstuffed cabbage rolls with brown rice.

I've become quite taken with Carole's microwaved popcorn. I've eaten it for the past two days and plan to have it again today. It's so easy and tasty! A very satisfying crunch factor. Can't argue with only one bowl to clean up! Btw, I looked at my bowls and they are both microwave and oven safe so I won't worry about them. I highly recommend White Cat popcorn if you can find it. Thanks for sharing Carole!

Nance, never heard of White Cat popcorn, but may have to seek it out if we get into Carole's naked kernel microwave popping. I have to go through my pyrex bowls to make sure I can do it w/o freaking myself out with an explosion! ;) Sounds so good!

Chabba, while I also hope you find meaningful work/experiences to fill the void you feel, I hope you also give yourself time to grieve...the loss of twenty years of service and a close meaningful relationship is a lot to lose. Keeping you in my thoughts....

We are having unbelievable winds here today....but fortunately without the snow that the Cape is having along with the wild winds. Sadly,  there is a raging nine alarm apartment fire blazing in our old Back Bay Boston neighborhood......looks like there may be loss of life with at least one firefighter. The wind is a major factor in this blaze. Keeping all those folks in my thoughts.

Was just going to have soup tonight, but went to the store after gym, and saw the fish truck backed up to the loading dock.....just had to get some fish. so it will be baked fish and veggies tonight.

Carole, I picked up an interesting recipe card for Cod that I saw.....

    Cod Parmesan

    1 and 1/2 cod fillets

    1 cup shredded mozarella

    1/2 cup marinara sauce

    1/4 cup Parmesan cheese

Lay fillets in single layer in oiled baking dish. Cover with marinara sauce

    Top with both cheeses

Bake at 450 degrees until cooked through (they recom 10 minutes per inch of thickness)

    Sounds easy peasy!

Lacey, that recipe does look easy.  I've never thought of cooking fish with marinara and cheese.

Nancy, I really enjoy the popcorn, too, and it's so easy.  Cheaper and you don't have all that wasted packaging from the bag microwave popcorn.  The butter-flavored cooking spray is quite tasty with a little salt.

I always admired you, Chabba, for your volunteer work at the senior center.

Yesterday I bought whole boneless chicken breasts at Fresh Market for $2.99 a lb.  I poached 3 or 4 of them and today made a huge chicken salad, 11 cups (I measured to figure out the WW points!)  It has shredded carrots, diced celery, halved purple grapes, raisins.  The dressing was part Hellman's light mayo and part greek yogurt, plain and nonfat with a generous addition of curry powder.

Tonight's dinner is leftover lima beans and brown rice and tossed salad.

I can actually recall having cod parmigiana at Italian restaurants over the years....one of my favorite dishes...sort of a light Italian food option.

We had baked salmon brushed with a blend of evoo, garlic and balsamic, sautéed broccoli rabe with garlic, mushrooms, walnuts and red pepper flakes, and a spinach salad....lots of greens ;) I resisted the crusty bread loaf that DH  brought to the table...but not too easy.

Sadly, two firefighters in that Boston fire today lost their lives.

It was nothing short of a miracle that the firefighter in that Texas apt fire was saved....or I should say, heroically saved himself!

Chabba- Your Partner is lucky to have you as a friend. Sad when you
hear of church's being predujiced but hopefully it has changed since you
    were last there.

Lacey- It is so sad about the fire and the loss, I saw on the news how big a storm was there too, hope you stay safe.

Nancy, I have done that too, either unsubscribed or blocked someone accidently lol!

Still finishing off the chili because like Monica I can't make a small batch. But it is always better the next day. Tomorrow will be some of the fresh cod I will lightly blacken it  and pan fry in just a small amount of evoo. Then at the end put in a pat of butter with some parsley, capers and lemon juice. maybe some wine too If I decide I want to open a whole bottle.

Debbie, I think I'll drop in for some of that pan-fried cod and sauce!  Sounds delicious.

Lacey, your dinner sounds yummy, too, and healthy with those greens.  I resisted a piece of corn bread last night with my beans and rice.  DH had a big slice warmed up with real butter.  I didn't mention that I made corn bread Mon. night to go with the lima beans.  The warmed up limas were better last night than on Mon.  For those who don't like lima beans, these are the dried beans.  They're white, not green.

Today is the last day of a 3-day golf tournament.  Afterwards there's a luncheon and the awards.  My lunch choices were a Mexican buffet or Caesar salad with chicken.  Not a good choice on my WW program but I'm going with the Caesar and chicken, which I really like.  Often order it at a restaurant  It's the dressing that ups the cals and fat.  I'll have to go really light for dinner.

More challenges at the end of the week.  Dinner out on Fri.  Barbecue on Sat. afternoon with dh's woodworkers' group.

Oddly enough, I like the green limas, just not dried. But I'm going to try them with smoked sausage. If nothing else, it will make dh a happy man. You're a better woman than I, Carole to be able to pass up cornbread ;-)

DH is branching out into more regular foods, although last night he said one side of his jaw hurt a bit.  He has not had any pain meds since Saturday.  I made some really good soup the other night for dinner so he is having that for lunch today.  I sautéed carrot, onion, celery and small bella mushrooms with S&P - a bit heavy on the P, and some parsley.  Added a carton of stock, and a slurry of corn starch and coconut milk.  Then added some cooked chicken that I chopped up in fairly small pieces and some brown and wild rice.  Yummy and easy!  I made some scrambled eggs last night and put them in a container, then added some salsa and shredded cheddar.  He microwaves that at work in the morning, or has some grits.  Seems to be working out.  I made cabbage rolls last night and also have some leftover ricotta stuffed shells, so that is dinner tonight!

Funny you mentioned the stuffed shells. Haven't made them in years but picked up ricotta yesterday. Unfortunately I forgot I had no mozzarella so they will have to wait a bit. I have some Parm. but not enough to do the trick I think. Now if you want yellow or jalapeno cheese I could make your day. I think tonight is bacon/pancakes again. I have must be 4-5 partially emptied cans/packages so we might have combo pancakes. Would like to reclaim the space they are in.

Glad your DH is feeling better. I did the dentist yesterday. Passed which I was surprised about. Not been as diligent the past few months and actually forgot this appt. for a bit.

I spent some time looking up smoked sausage recipes this am. I bought a hunk (3 lb I think) and froze it in pieces. DH thought I'd lost my mind but just told him to cut it about 1/3s and stick in 3 ZipLocks. Hillshire Farm had a bunch I bookmarked.

But on an entirely different note I bought 4 months of Cooking Light at HP Books yesterday. Now to just put it into practice. We're going to OK in a couple of weeks - usual twice yearly group "camping" and I always plan for rainy days. Will make good light reading there.

SpecialK, you impress me as a very resourceful cook!  Your meals always sound good.  I'll have to check out coconut milk to see if it's good on ww.

I was counting on having to figure a lot of pts. today for my chicken Caesar salad, but the dressing was served on the side.  I did the dip your fork trick and was quite happy.  So I'm having a vodka martini tonight!

Dinner will be warmed veggie lasagna and a salad dressed with pear infused white balsamic.  Zilch pts. on the salad.

Specialk- Glad to hear your DH is doing better. Some times the sacrifices we make to get our loved ones healthier turn out to taste good. Your soup sounds good

Luvmygoats- I love having breakfast for dinner. In fact I made a sausage and cheese in a hash brown crust today which we will have for breakfast tomorrow and possibly for dinner tomorrow night.

Carole- I told Dh about the lady who put extra stuff in her husbands food so he wouldn't lose weight faster than her, he laughed but now is very suspicious when I make him stuff. LOL! I told him I would never do that ever!

It did get me to thinking of the stuff I did do though back when I was married to a real A-hole I knew he was cheating on me, I should of left him way before I did but was afraid of him, but I remember a friend had told me to put some visine in his food it would give him Diarrhea, After googleing to make sure it wasn't going to harm him other than the running to the bathroom a lot, one night when he told me he was going out I decided to put baby oil in his conditioner and visine in his soup, after eating a bowl of soup and showering he got dressed and didn't look so hot when he left, (his hair looked greasy) haha! he came back early that night looking a liitle puny, and said he had bad stomach cramps. he was up going to the bathroom all night. And guess what I didn't feel bad about it one bit. I know this sounds crazy for me to do. but it was worth it. LOL!

Seaside- Where are you at? Haven't seen you in a while
